What's the difference between super sonic and hyper sonic? I already got to this level with all the super emeralds but never got a chance to use super sonic in the whole game.

In addition to having 8 extra save slots and all the levels from both games, this included several new features: Playing as Knuckles in StH3, playing as Tails in S&K, Hyper Sonic, Hyper Knuckles, Super Tails, and the level you see me playing in this video.

Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Jam, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, Sonic & Knuckle Collection, Sonic & Garfield Pack, and Sonic Classic Collection have the full game available in all versions (although some of them require you to unlock it first).
Huh...considering there's 6 stages iirc in S&K and you only need just Super Sonic to access Doomsday, I thought it's naturally there. @coram2007 Sonic 3 and Knuckles has the levels from Sonic & Knuckles combined with the Sonic 3 levels making it into one big game. It couldn't be its own separate cartridge because of the size of the game.
I love this game and I love this music. This was the last time Sega could pull a Sonic game off. And this game came roughly around the same time I moved on from one part to another in my life.

@E3Vidz If I'm correct, Sonic 3 & Knuckles was also the first game to introduce a true final boss where you have to chase Robotnik's final ship through space as Supersonic, trying to damage it while collecting rings to stay flying. There are other bosses of this type, notably in the Sonic Advance series for GBA.
The end of Sonic 1 had a machine type boss, and Sonic 2 had the first Egg Robot to battle with you. Both of the fights can be fought using just normal Sonic.
@MCSuire Yes essentially this was you and Robotnik going head to head just non-stop! The gravity fight, then the huge mech, then part 2 of that fight, then him making a run for it as the Death Egg crumbles around you, THEN taking the battle to space as he makes his last stand...twice!
@E3Vidz Hmm, I've never really thought about it like that, but you're right: Many final bosses have two or three forms, but here, you fight Robotnik no less than SIX times in a row.
@MCSuire both of those fights HAVE to be fought just using normal sonic seeing that sonic 1 didn't have supersonic and sonic 2 had no rings at all to fight that robot with let alone 50.
@lRAND0Ml Exactly. But the thing is that there is there is no special requirement to get to them. All you need to do is get through the game. You don't need anything like the emeralds to get to those bosses.

What I think is a disapointment of the whole Sonic 4 anouncement is that everyone is saying like "It's not like the classics at all, the jumping is wierd" etc judging from the leaked gameplay!

I really wonder how Sega is going to make Sonic The Hedgehog 4 better than this, this was really good back in the day. Sonic The Hedgehog 4 can swing two ways: It can either be a great sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles and get even the younger generations playing the classic Sonic games or it can be a crap sequel and get the older generation of Sonic fans annoyed, it's really risky to attempt to continue a classic trilogy 16 years after it was believed to be ended, who agrees with me?

i think you misunderstood. it's the same style special stages in sonic 3 but hundreds of thousands of them, literally. over 100,000 special stages. it has no effect on any sonic game its just alot of fun

I can't seem to get the emerald to go onto me, just me being really close to it, then me falling but the plane not getting the emerald. What am I doing wrong?
If you had all the Chaos Emeralds, you can get to Doomsday Zone and get the "Sonic 3" ending, but if you enter the Hidden Place to turn them all into empty Super Emeralds, you would have to get all the Super Emeralds first before you could go to Doomsday Zone
@TheKillerofhipies You had to lock Sonic 3 into Sonic and Knuckles and play through the game with Sonic. You had to collect all 7 emeralds and then upgrade them all to super emeralds to become Hyper Sonic. This was the ending of the game if you did that.
Haha this brings me back. When i was in school my friends would bring me in there sonic3 games and have me get all the emeralds so they could play as super sonic :-) I would even play the S&K with sonic3 attached so they could play as hyper sonic. This is my favorite all time game.
It's a stage which can only be unlocked by playing both of them together; the original version of Sonic & Knuckles opened up on top so you could plug Sonic the Hedgehog 3 into it (kind of like a Game Genie). By doing such, you could play through the full version of the game, which was essentially Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles combined, plus this stage at the end.
@tailsonicshadow4 Connect Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to Sonic & Knuckles. After the last act of the Death Egg Zone, you should be able to play this level if you got all of the emeralds.
@rpgguy999 The counter wasn't designed to go over 99. Thus, it causes an error once you reach 100. But this is fixed whenever a level is completed- or if you lose a life- it returns to 99.

@E3Vidz If I'm correct, Sonic 3 & Knuckles was also the first game to introduce a true final boss where you have to chase Robotnik's final ship through space as Supersonic, trying to damage it while collecting rings to stay flying. There are other bosses of this type, notably in the Sonic Advance series for GBA.
The end of Sonic 1 had a machine type boss, and Sonic 2 had the first Egg Robot to battle with you. Both of the fights can be fought using just normal Sonic.

@MCSuire Yes essentially this was you and Robotnik going head to head just non-stop! The gravity fight, then the huge mech, then part 2 of that fight, then him making a run for it as the Death Egg crumbles around you, THEN taking the battle to space as he makes his last stand...twice!

@E3Vidz Hmm, I've never really thought about it like that, but you're right: Many final bosses have two or three forms, but here, you fight Robotnik no less than SIX times in a row.

@MCSuire both of those fights HAVE to be fought just using normal sonic seeing that sonic 1 didn't have supersonic and sonic 2 had no rings at all to fight that robot with let alone 50.

@lRAND0Ml Exactly. But the thing is that there is there is no special requirement to get to them. All you need to do is get through the game. You don't need anything like the emeralds to get to those bosses.

@EpicSonicProductions Yes, I meant this is the only game where Hyper Sonic appears, and this transformation hasn't been seen in anything since (ie. games, shows, comics, etc)

But these aren't canon :)
Much like Silver never appeared canonically. He did appear in '06, but that never happened. And I'm pretty sure the DS version of Sonic Colors doesn't count.

What I think is a disapointment of the whole Sonic 4 anouncement is that everyone is saying like "It's not like the classics at all, the jumping is wierd" etc judging from the leaked gameplay!
Now, the 1st episode isn't even released yet & people are allready complaining! I mean it's stil in developement so obviosly the "jumping" would be fixed & other stuff!

Also, for those who don't like the idea of the episodic thing about Sonic 4, remember that Sonic 3 & Sonic & Knuckles are pretty much episode 1 & episode 2 - Sega would probably have them both locked on to each other when they release all of the episodes.
So far, I'm impressed with Sonic 4 (I haven't seen the leaks cause I'm not going to spoil it for myslf); Super Sonic's confirmed, level designer from S3&K is involved, Tails & Knuckles in Episode 2 - Looks like the new Sonic Team is doing well

I really wonder how Sega is going to make Sonic The Hedgehog 4 better than this, this was really good back in the day. Sonic The Hedgehog 4 can swing two ways: It can either be a great sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles and get even the younger generations playing the classic Sonic games or it can be a crap sequel and get the older generation of Sonic fans annoyed, it's really risky to attempt to continue a classic trilogy 16 years after it was believed to be ended, who agrees with me?

if u link sonic and knuckles to sonic 1, they have hundreds of thousands of special stages to play. this is how I practiced to get all the emeralds.

which special stages the one from sonic 1,2,3 or CD cuz if they're the ones from sonic 3 or 1 dont need em cuz i got all the emeralds in 1 and 3&K and i dont care about sonic 2 emeralds cuz i arleady beated the game and can use debug mode to get super sonic for fun and about CD dont care either way it doesnt have super sonic or anythinhg so dont care

i think you misunderstood. it's the same style special stages in sonic 3 but hundreds of thousands of them, literally. over 100,000 special stages. it has no effect on any sonic game its just alot of fun

@gruntguy007 when did i mentioned 3D or anything i said the gameplay was nothing like the classics from the leaks and the physics were nothing like in the classics,the level design was filled with speed boosters ,spring-to-spring which made it feel automated rather then momentum-based im glad sega delayed the game to fix the level design,physics and shit and hopefully they'll remove the mine cart and the pinball gimmick acts

If you had all the Chaos Emeralds, you can get to Doomsday Zone and get the "Sonic 3" ending, but if you enter the Hidden Place to turn them all into empty Super Emeralds, you would have to get all the Super Emeralds first before you could go to Doomsday Zone

@TheKillerofhipies You had to lock Sonic 3 into Sonic and Knuckles and play through the game with Sonic. You had to collect all 7 emeralds and then upgrade them all to super emeralds to become Hyper Sonic. This was the ending of the game if you did that.

Haha this brings me back. When i was in school my friends would bring me in there sonic3 games and have me get all the emeralds so they could play as super sonic :-) I would even play the S&K with sonic3 attached so they could play as hyper sonic. This is my favorite all time game.

It's a stage which can only be unlocked by playing both of them together; the original version of Sonic & Knuckles opened up on top so you could plug Sonic the Hedgehog 3 into it (kind of like a Game Genie). By doing such, you could play through the full version of the game, which was essentially Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles combined, plus this stage at the end.

@rpgguy999 The counter wasn't designed to go over 99. Thus, it causes an error once you reach 100. But this is fixed whenever a level is completed- or if you lose a life- it returns to 99.
