Just so you know if the heart stops a defib will do nothing. Cardiac massage is the only thing that will start a heart beating again. A defib will shock the heart back into normal rhythm. I do agree a defib at every arena is a damn good idea, but in this case doing CPR was much more use than a defib would have been
the red wings handled this with so much class but admit that if this happened in czech, i don't know how the medical system is there but it could've been much worse
I just cant believe that the NHL didnt mandate "full paramedic and emt services as part of every game" They have been required at high school, college games etc, for years!!! pisses me off
I guess some sort of horrible event needs to happen before something is mandated; visors, goalie mask/equipement, neck guard, jock straps, reinforced plexiglass glass, all took a major event before they were what they are today. Soon enough someone will get seriously injured or die due to a hockey fight and it will be banned in the NHL and I can garantee someone will ask, why wasn't it mandated? A sad but true reality.
see if cheraponov collapsed on the bench in nrth america i think he would have had a way better chance of surviving. The ambulance in rusia left 15 minutes before the game ended and didnt arrive back until 10 minutes after the incident.
Fischer played in a charity game this week at Joe Lous Arena. It is unlikely he will play again in the NHL, but he has not ruled it out. He still has a locker in the wings locker room and is currently employed by the Red Wings organization.

yeah, same thing happened in NASCAR with the death of Dale Earnhardt in 2001. What was a HANS device before that!!!!!

thats the crappy thing about all of these professional sports; it takes death for them to be convinced of something!

I agree with what you say but I can guarentee you that 99.9% of NHLers wear a cup.

People have died as a direct result of hockey fights. Generally they don't happen in the NHL and theyre incredibly rare to begin with.

Ya I agree. They usually have first aid services provided in case of emergency

The Defribrillator, which just happened to on site, saved his life. After this, The NHL mandated defribrillators in every NHL bench.

a kid in russia just died when his heart stopped. and they didnt have one

I know...what a tragedy. 19 yrs. old. Russia needs to mandate the same thing that The NHL has.

They did have an ambulance there but it was final minutes so it had gone, and i think there was some paramedics near but they was drunk.

its ashame too because he was already a good player + he had so much potential as well
MrCool63 4 years ago
Yeah for sure.. It sucks the most because of that, he was hella good.
bieksalvr3 4 years ago
As much as I'd like him to play again as well, I'm just as content knowing he is still alive.
