YES THIS IS A GREAT MOMENT FOR CANADA ..She's already stopped some fast track politics in OTTAWA....Decisions being made without out due process...I share all these videos with as many people as possible...That way next election they know Canada has a GREAT option from the same old crap we're used to
Witness the dawn of a new era in Canadian Politics: A member who is articulate, intelligent and informed, and who actually represents the people who elected her.
Like me. Forget the Blue and Red Machines as the Cons and Libs have worked so hard to make themselves irrelevant to the future. They are the past. Green is the future.
I've been waiting a long time for this. Wonderful, just wonderful. Also, it nice to see debate already - not the most elegant debate I've read on YouTube but great to see people having discussions. Keep em coming Elisabeth :). Hope to see lots more exchanges of ideas as well.
@hanksnow82 Bla bla bla? It is obvious that some of us care about our democracy and judging by the comments on this thread there are more of us that actually do than those of you who don't. Have fun keeping your head in the sand.
@hanksnow82 Actually I did check the score board and it turns out that if you do the math only 25% of registered voters actually voted conservative. Even if you only count the 61% of registered voters that are still casting a ballot, a minority (39.6%) voted conservative. Over 60% don't think having Harper as our prime minister is such a hot idea. So I am back to my original point about respecting democracy.
You can see the numbers for yourself at the Elections Canada site. Your turn.
@fortheloveoflife24 Of course you only count registered voters that cast ballots and it turns out Harpers almost 40% majority is about the same % as the three majority governments of Jean Chretien and the Liberals .The ballots where you are must be different then they are here because on our ballots there was not "I don't want Harper choice " on the ballot .The Country has had a first past the post election system for almost 150 years if you don't like it maybe you should go live somewhere else
@hanksnow82 maybe 150 years of a broken system (FPTP) is due for a change, and telling someone to leave a country they obviously care about is just plain ignorance. We do not have to keep the same electoral system we've always had simply because it's what we've always had, or perhaps because it's what our regressive neighbors have. I say regressive because their political system currently holds progress in check. The honourable MP E. May was very well spoken. Happy Birthday too!
@hanksnow82 Interesting point about the 150 year history of FPTP in this country. I was wondering if your doctor is practicing medicine out of a text book written 150 years ago or if your car is using technology that was current 150 years ago. How about your telephone or your computer, are both of these items based on the way we did things 150 years ago? Tell me some more things in your life that are just like they were 150 years ago. Your house maybe? Your microwave? Your refrigerator?
@hanksnow82 If you can get past the name calling for a moment I would love to hear your take on how our electoral system can be classified as "ideology". I always thought of it as a way to communicate the will of the people in a democracy and as such more of a communication technology. What ideology does the FPTP system represent in your mind?
@fortheloveoflife24 Canada was founded on the Westminister system and it has and is working very well for the country . Canadians have rejected proportional representation every time they have voted on it they would have to legislate it against the peoples will to bring it in . Perhaps you want a system more like Cuba but most Canadians don't .
@hanksnow82 Does this mean that you are conceding that our electoral system is not ideological? Are you now ready to engage in a conversation about the merits of the FPTP system and how well it represents the will of the people?
@fortheloveoflife24 Parliamentarism and the Westminster system is very much an ideology but i'm not surprised a disciple Lizzy May's can't grasp that .
@hanksnow82 Thank you so much for enlightening me with your thoughtful and informative reply. I have learned quite a lot about right wing thinking from your comments. I appreciate your time.
@hanksnow82 And for the silly comment of going to live somewhere else that is such an old conservative statement that anyone who disagrees with you should just leave "your" country. It typifies the insular and bigoted thinking of conservatives and again ignores the fact that 75% of Canadians did not vote for that attitude.
emmm sorry i dont want to turn people off but am i the only one who hates it when they translate things?i mean if canada is bilingual stop stranslating, people will be forced to learn each others language to understand...and im talking about french medias as well!everytime theres a bit of english they translate it in french!!i havent learned english to have everything translated..awww..symbols are important!! promoting bilingualism throughout the country would unite us!!
It's hard to remain optimistic in this age of corruption. Miss May has renewed my faith in parliament. I believe her spirit alone will benefit all members of parliament.
blah blah blah the Whole GodDamn "Government"is a FARCE. These bunch of Bastards can SPEW their Pretty Speeches, but the Fucking CONTEMPTIBLE CON CULT is NOT a Legit Government of CANADA.
