The EU is good because it gives people freedom of movement, the right to live and work in all member states with minimal bureaucracy and it gives people more freedom than before (especially within Eastern Europe which was once not the case). I am a fan of greater integration and I think a strong united Europe is the way forward. I accept it is not perfect but I find most of this to be about wanting rid of the Euro than democracy.

Same goes for all East European states. The self proclaimed leaders of the EU, (NONE of them have been elected), use this to expand their influence, with states that are traditionally socialistic and easily moulded. All countries in the EU are out to get what they can from it, that is a given but it simply isn't true to say that was the only reason - agreements were made months in advance and then Fico's Party used the situation to get rid of the coalition over here. Many of us here are socialists and many will tell you things have improved here because of the EU. From that point of view it is good. I think the EU while not perfect is of benefit here.

The Eastern contribution to the eventual defeat of Germany in my opinion was far greater than anything Britain (aided by the USA) did, certainly at the close of the war. The Poles, on whose behalf Britain had declared War, were treated disgracefully from the Warsaw rising to Katyn. My own Grandmother served in the RAF with Polish exiles and the way they were treated afterwards was disgusting. In my view people like this did more, sorry if you disagree.
