This scene gives me goose bumps! would watch this a million times and I wanted to be just like him!I was for a while!LOL He told me when we worked together on the O.C. that this was the first thing he ever did,and lucky for him it was because SAG went on strike, and he made enough money on this t survive! We sat outside during breaks and sang these songs together!he was shocked I still knew all the words! Good times then and now!
Epic!! I adore this movie. Ray Sharkey's character is such a snap-out, like a time bomb waiting to explode. Brenda from Teen Scene is absolutely beautiful. Screw Tommy, and Caesare killed this performance even after being attacked by a bunch of wild, savage girls. My favorite scene in the movie. " I gotta story to tell!! "
Great movie. In an interview, Peter Gallagher said he got a rush from all the girls screaming at him, and then Taylor Hackford said, "We pay them to do that, kid." Still, it had to be pretty cool.
What a freakin GREAT movie!!!! OMG! Peter Gallagher was so young. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this movie! I need to find it in DVD! Thanks for sharing!!!! Smooches!
Does anybody have Peter Gallagher doing this song on Patrick Wayne's (John Wayne's son) Monaco based Variety Show (sometime in 1980/81)? It was an incredible performance!
Saw this movie once on tv years ago, finally found VHS and have album framed, one of the best, Ray Sharkey, all amazing! If only Youtube was around then would have saved a lot of time!
This movie never got the credit it deserved because Ray Sharkey had that drug bust, for heroin. But he was brilliant. And Peter Gallagher's performance, doing his own singing and dancing ... Fantastic ... Hot !
I worked with Peter Gallager in the movie Mr. deeds and we were outside taking a break and I brought up the movie. I started singing songs from the movie and he joined in. He then told me how this was his first acting gig and right afterwards SAG went on strike and the money from this film kept him alive! And yes this movie also played a part in my development.
i saw most of this movie except for the first 45 minutes and i loved it.i like this song alot too it's very catchy.lol thanks for putting the video up here:-)
i loved this movie as a kid,and to this day i,m still trying to get in a band as a singer. i just bought a copy of this movie on ebay for $3 . they have alot for sale and its even on dvd too. go get you one!
I remember the singing star called Lisa Lisa. She named this movie her favorite. It's a shame the great character actor Ray Sharkey is no longer with us. Peter Gallagher of the OC series is doing well with his hit show.
thank you thank you i love this movie i used 2 watch it twice a day when i was like 5 but i lost it and i couldnt find it i tried in all the stores but i couldnt but i will live with this =)
this white man is BEAUTIFULL!!!!!!!him and john travolta good god man!!!!! do they still make um like that.i have never dated out side my race because of other ignorant peoples opinion. but if i ever see a white man that looks remotely close to them. "i gotta have that!"
I always wanted the sound track for this movie. I loved it since I was a kid. I have an old VHS of it. R.I.P. Ray Sharkey!!!!!!!!!!! You were the real IDOLMAKER!
This is really Peter singing. But it was done in a studio. I love this movie. It was made in the early 80's but it puts you back in the late 50's early 60's. It has fun and energy that movies today just don't have. Here is Magic. My opinion anyways Youtubers.
I fell in LOVE with this movie and the actors when I was like 11 years old!!!! This is my all time favorite movie! I even wanted to name my son Caesare!!!! I recently bought the DVD and showed it to my 13 year old daughter she loved it! Oh yeah and I had a son...but sadly I didn't name him Caesare...I LOVE this movie!!!
Absolutely one of the most underrated films ever produced. Whomever was responsible for the promotion of this film in 1980, or lack thereof, ought to be hung from a mic cord. A true story, it is based (self) promoter Bob Marcucci, who discovered Frankie Avalon (Caesare) and Fabian (Tommy Dee), it is the unequivocal depiction of the 1950's music industry (and today) ... exploiting naive lack of talent and molding it into a veritable goldmine for their own personal or corporate gain.
I agree; it's extremely underrated. I came across the VHS version of this movie in the bargain bin at Wal-mart a few years ago and I bought several copies to give away. Everyone that I gave them to has really enjoyed it!
This was such a great film. I've seen it 40 times, easy. I use to lip-sync a few of the songs at night clubs. This was in the 80's. I was going against people doing bits from Prince and Michael Jackson. Most people didn't know of the "The Idolmaker" at the time. The funny thing is...many times I won the $100 first prize. "Here is my Love" paid off.
Wild! Crazy! Awesome!! & a young Peter Gallagher! Me & my mom love this movie & love singing along 2 the songs. This video & song "makes me feel good, baby"!
I saw this movie when it came out and I'll never tire of seeing it. Ray Sharkey was EXCELLENT in this movie, and Peter Gallagher shows himself to be an amazing performer, particularly in this scene. (P.S. He had to get his chest and arms waxed to play this role. Ouch!)
Wow you too, I saw this movie when I was 16 in 1980, and I never let it go. I kept remembering it, and I got it on video when videos first came out..then eventualy I got the DVD..but I watch this and share it with friends all the time, it was an excellent time piece for that era..and a great story of a man trying to be happy, but failing at his attempts by using others to complete his dreams...
This movie was so great!- I loved Cesare & Tommy. Everytime I play the DVD, I get stuck on this performance by Peter Gallagher-Ray Sharkey was also outstanding as their manager. This movie takes me way back. It should be re-released for everyone to see. I don't think it got the credit that it deserved!! Thanks for posting it!!

Saw this in the theaters in 1980, loved this movie this entire scene is strong! Ray Sharkey is so irate and intense, what a loss he is, RIP.
Peter Gallagher's Caesare is just as strong thru
out the film. A powerful scene.
Lumpy63 4 years ago
wait wait wait, who died?
cutiepieluvskisshu 4 years ago
Unfortunately, Ray Sharkey who played the "Idolmaker" Vinnie Vacari died over 10 years
ago from I believe was aids related from drug
usage. He also played gangster Sonny Steelgrave
in the 1980's TV series Wiseguy. He was a fine
talent who had his demons, on a better note he
won a Golden Globe for this role.

cutiepieluvskisshu 4 years ago
Your mother is right, this movie is based on the
real 1950's idols Frankie Avalon and Fabian.
Tommy D is Avalon, while Caesare is Fabian.
Yes in those years the good looking crooners
weren't popular for their singing, oh wait it
still happens today.Some things don't change I
guess.
Lumpy63 4 years ago
Funny, I read that it was the other way around: Tommy Dee, the taller, wilder one = Fabian, while Caesare = Frankie Avalon. If you watch the clip here on YT of "However Dark the Night" by Caesare, try to picture Frankie Avalon wearing all white in the film Grease and singing "Beauty School Dropout".
Beatpoet7371 3 years ago
That is a curious analogy of Caesare possibly being Avalon dressed in all white, however remember the knock on Fabian was that he was NOT a very good singer, however his look was created
as for Caesare as teen heart throb who will sell records on his looks, the music will come later.
As for Tommy Dee, he certainly nailed the Avalon look on Here is My Love, and Sweet Little Lover, as you know tremendous movie!!
