They want to remember themselves as perfect little angels who did no wrong. I am ashamed to be an American quite often by some of these people.

Not only that but none of us originated from America, unless you are Native. But even then there are theories that all human life started in Africa. Scientifically it could make sense, once the Earth was able to sustain human life it could have only been able to in one area. However I imagined it would happen in certain spots all over the world, depending on the high amounts of bacteria that give off oxygen as a by-product.

We black people and those of color are always having to study and learn about what white people did in the creation of this country and such, but unless it's Black History month or any other month that is supposed to celebrate a people of color, you don't really hear about stuff like this. I mean, why do you have to take special classes to learn about what people of color contributed to this country? Redo U.S. history books.

salvery was bad but... i dont have much sympathy.. i mean... over history one group of people takes over or is granted another, and they become their slaves... thats how history plays out.. im not saying slavery was good.. im just saying, if we build one, we should build every single country in the world a monument... the world was formed by slavery.. mean are created the same, but not equal, one man will be good at something and the other one wont, and so on and so forth = not entirely equal

it's true...the thing is we're supposedly trying to live more enlightened ways. So sometimes we do have to hammer in the point. that yes even though it happens, it's still wrong. It's symbolic, and yeah there's always debate about how much effect symbolism has. But I think it's still better to have it there, so you can point it out if you want to, rather than for there to be absolutely not acknowledgment.

Atheists get morality from empathy. We can put ourselves in the place of others and feel bad when we hurt others. I think that EVERYONE should be acknowledged for what they did, and its true that African Americans, Japanese, Chinese, and Latino's alike get striped from the historic development of this country. I sure as hell dont want to be taxed for building this thing..It the same thing Ron Paul was atacked for because he didnt want to tax the people to give Rosa Parks a Medal. he said why doesnt congress just pay for it ourselves.. but to tax people for something like this would be unconstituational.. thats the reason I wouldnt vote for it either.. non favorable vote to the resolution and the reason given makes him a hypocrite...I would agree the REAL reason was something else. Acknowledging that even our capitol was built with slave labor and is from one point of view a monument to man's inhumanity to man (slavery) is better than ignoring the subject and trying to sweep it under the carpet as "frivolous".
We need to be clear about right from wrong and move forward from there.
