Australia 1998-2007 - what a team. tons of talent in every department. if only they had learnt to behave as well...wouldve probably been as universally loved as Brazil.
Wonderful test match. Shame it was rained off. India were in pole position to win it, especially with Sehwag in that kind of form. This series would have been 2-2 had it not rained.
I would say that 155 is the best knock Sehwag has ever played. He dominated Warne and scored well off McGrath as well.
there were bad ump decisions in the 2005 ashes that cost australia the series but no such fuss was made about it. the indian media were just upset that they lost the game.
Now if anything india weren't playing in the spirit of the game. First they racially sledged symonds. Secondly they didnt stay true to the pre-series agreement of taking the fielders word for close catches. WTF was ganguly doing hanging around after he nicked it to clarke? Everybody including the commentators knew about the pre-series agreement. Thats why even benson looked towards clarke/ponting instead of the square leg umpire. Yes a few ump decisions were bad in that game..but thats cricket
I will tell you why Ganguly stood his ground. May be it has got to do something with Andrew Symonds nicking a ball to Dhoni off Ishanth Sharma and Ponting nicking a ball to Dhoni again of Ganguly and stood their ground. Did they take the fielders word for it?. Hell NO. They stood there as if nothing happened. Then why would Ganguly honor the pre-series agreement. To hell with it.
At-least in Gangulys case the replays were inconclusive but in Symo/pontings case it was blatant.
@stanley8125 You've got it completely wrong. Taking the fielders words was only for CLOSE 50-50 catches...because an experiment had been done by tony greig that showed that tv cameras aren't reliable to use for those 50-50 catches as the camera angle used will make the catch look either legitimate/illegitimate. Nothing was said about the common dismissals like caught behinds where the ball carries at waist height. anyway in the first innings ponting got an inside edge and was given out lbw.
- ponting and kumble had a chat after the series in india and agreed on two things
(i) There won't be racial slurs against symonds
(ii) The fielders word would be taken when it came to catches
Now that did ponting and australia do wrong? In the first innings ponting took a catch of dravid and it appeared that it carried on tv. In the second innings clarke took a catch and claimed it.The point is that tv cameras are unable to pick up tight catches
@stanley8125 u got the point wrong. The camera angle's u see aren't reliable and can't be used as proper evidence. and if you want to go that way then ponting took a clean catch of dravid in the 1st innings and didn;t claim it....see the contradiction? All i'm saying is when two captains have an agreement on a sensitive issue like this and 1 side doesn't stand by that its just utterly bad sportsmanship. I don't know why ganguly stood there...but good thing mark benson looked at the fielder.
How convenient eh?. Only for 50-50 catches. Well even if that were true let me ask you a simple question. Why didn't Symonds and Ponting didn't take the fielder's word?. Ok even for argument's sake let's leave out ponting. The bugger symonds he was out at 30 with a clean nick and went on to make 170. We were effin robbed of a Test match. And in the very same test's 2nd inn Michael clarke stood like a statue after he edged one to dravid of kumble.
@stanley8125 No agreement was made for that mode of dismissal. Only for catches that may require the 3rd umpire and technology to determine whether or not the ball carried..not whether the batsman hit it or not.
And you think I didn't understand that in the first place.
My point was and always has been never trust Australian players who won't take fielders word for clean catches and bat nicks. Screw the pre-series agreement. Ganguly was right in not taking a word from grassed catchers Ponting and Michael clarke.
@nottellingu0 , There is no difference between you and a 5 year old crying because he lost his balloon. Seriously!, what has this video got to do with 2007-08 series, live in present and grow up!
@YORKER876 I didn't bring it up somebody did and as i mentioned in the first post i want to put an end to all the crying by indian fans. why ru so upset by this anway...did i hit a nerve? ;)
Jeez, what a test match! Outstanding batting from Martyn and Sehwag, very good bowling from the two great leg-spinners and above all, superb spirit in which the game was played.
It's a shame that Sydney, 2008 spoiled the relations a bit, but the sportsmanspirit displayed in the 2004 series was legendary. The fact that Gilly was the skipper and moral standards were high is not coincidental, IMHO. Character flows from top to bottom, they say!
wtf happened to Kaif?

Sachin Tendulkar is a hopeless batsaman and is overrated, he is 38 yrs old and still plays cricket. He should get a life.

OKAY LETS SORT THIS SYDNEY TEST ONCE IN FOR ALL:

You can't be serious. Ponting grassed that catch and he was still appealing. If at all anything look for kapur prem's video. You will get the answer.

Somebody should ask Atherton to STFU about the finer points of pace bowling.
@ 21:57 "Slight off-cutter, a bit of reverse swing"
WTF? Those are two completely different delivery forms with different wrist positions, different finger actions and the pace at which they are bowled.
Kasper was bowling reverse swing of high-quality in this series.
Athers, just stick to discussing batting, fella!
