I see no difference with public housing. The city builds public housing, the tenants eventually pay off the housing with rent. The city builds the Yankees a new stadium, paying up to 75 percent of the costs up front, and eventually pay off the stadium with rent. The well to do have as much right to government programs as anyone else. A stadium if more a public venue, being used as a public building, more than say government financed public housing.
It seems disgraceful that they used public money to build it. It looks like a brilliant stadium, but wouldn't the money of been better spent on public services that everyone can enjoy.
Eliminate the majority of collected taxes, and the programs that somewhat are funded by them... then you eliminate the temptation to use those funds for a project the Free Market could have paid for.
Baseball allegiances aside, I have to commend the Yankees on their new stadium. It's one for the ages. As for the use of public money - well spent. Local businesses and all those public services you mentioned will benefit directly from increased sales and indirectly from the revenue raised from the sales taxes. I'm a fiscal conservative, but I believe this is a wise use of public money.
It's only tax-exempt bonds that the Yankees are paying back. If if they didn't use text-exempt bonds, this whole thing wouldn't have been possible because it would cost double the price. In the end, the whole thing is being paid for by the Yankees, except for the new parking garage.
They can build a Multimillion baseball for the rich toplay in and the rich to see , but NYC cant build a memorial to thousands who perished in 911, all I see are 2 light beams shooting to the sky.

R U FRIGGIN KIDDIN ME? the old yankee stadium should have been made a historic landmark like the statue of liberty in my opinion. its never gonna be the same
Interesting how people are referring to the last Yankess Stadium as 'the old one.' To fossils like me 'the old one' was 1923-1973. That place was magnificent. It was like the Grand Canyon or the Taj Mahal.
ive been to the old one once and i have to say it was just so damn cramped in da upper deck. it looks like a nice stadium but its a chunk of concrete, couldnt they make a bit more eye pleasing. from what i see its a much better than yankee stadium.
i've been to the old one so many times, and it's just not gonna be the same. it would of costed so much less money to renovate the stadium. just fix it up, replace the seats, make it look like the older one before the renovation in the 70s, etc. but no, of course we have to tear down something historic.
@KOFILMSANDMEDIA Get over it, Yankees got a championship at the new home that was the big thing with Yankee fans can they win a Championship in the new Ball Park..... That was answered of course its not going feel the same life is about new memories that can be shared for the rest of your life. That stadium as turning into a dump and falling apart now the Yankees got a home and get honor the Yankee greats like champs that they are.
Wasn't there talk about making this stadium and the Mets new stadium both retractable roof stadiums? Is that still the plan or are neither of these stadiums going to have that?
I read somewhere Rudy Giuliani was going to have it that way but when Blumberg took over as mayor the plan was canceld so they won't have retractable roofs.
Notice the track field and public baseball fields next to the stadium. I love how cities always show their new stadium projects as having fancy attractions outside the ballpark or stadium. When in reality, all that stuff really becomes is either condos or parking lots.
Those are becoming parks. The new stadium took up parkland that the Yankees have to replace. There were a lot of residents in the south Bronx pretty ticked about the new stadium.
Stop complaining that the Yankees are getting a new Yankee Stadium. Isn't it obvious it's to make more money? This thing is going to be a money making machine. Look who they are building to...all the rich business owners.
its not to make more money. its becasue the club houses are a peice of shit. if u just watch espn or any sport talk show all the players agree. the park was built in 1923 in the bronx you cant expect anything great
yeah cuz fenway dose not have the highest ticket prices in sports or anything lol. They built those shitty BLEACHER saets on the monster and charge an arm and a leg for the working class base ball fan, right ? LOL. Typical dumbass sox fan.
Damn shame hard working people r being ripped off with all those high ass ticket prices. How do they think a family is going 2 be able 2 go 2 many games with the crazy ticket prices. Not 2 mention food & etc it's crazy!
it might be called Yankee Stadium, but their no way it will keep up with the history of the old one, So its going to the house that ruth built to the house that jeter built
What bothers me most about this design is that the higher up you sit, the farther back you are from the action. In the "old" Yankee stadium, the upper deck hung over the lower deck so you were closer to the field. This new plan, like all of the new ballparks, wants to provide the fan with as much sunlight as possible. Great but I don't want to sit so far back and unfortunately, the Upper Deck has always been my domain. Yankee Stadium is expensive! Plus, the upper deck in general is MUCH smaller!
pissed about this new stadium. Im guna miss all the character of the place and moments that happened at the old. Guna be hard to be such a success as the real Yankee Stadium but their still my team.
It makes me sick to my stomach that both team ownerships are getting away with this. You'd think the politicians that enable this crap would understand the backlash. I'm a new yorker who lives in florida. I shutter to think what it will be like the next time I come home because I will not step foot in stadiums I don't agree with. Neither team has given any legitimate reasoning as to why this is needed. All I've heard is we want we want we want! How bout we need?!give us a reason!
Stay in Florida and shutter. There probbaly isn't a single person alive that didn't love the old Ball Park...However it was falling apart and was actually becoming dangerous. I loved my 94 Accord but had to give that up too
That is why there is a concept known as renovating Im old school and maybe you and I just have differing opinions but there is no way on gods green earth that tradition and history can be transferred from a historical landmark to a place that is costing a billion dollars. You cant put a price on that. Thats how I feel about it. The mystique wont be there, it wont be Yankee Stadium no matter how they slice it no matter how they make it look. Its sad Corporate tradition killing
Like some of you said it doesn't matter wich team are "your team" but we all got to agree on one thing The Yankee Stadium is part of the American history.
3 The TAX revenue that this new Stadium will generate is so badly needed.
4 NY is stronger when NY is building and its great to see structures go up other then Luxury Appts. Lets finally rebuild ground zero.
Look I was at the last game and I am sad to see it go - but at the end of the day baseball is a business and successful businesses embrace change or get rolled over by it.
I'm completely satisfied and excited to see this new cathedral except for one thing.. I don't like the new backstop. I love or will have loved the grand and giant backstop that harbors or harbored the "NY."
Whether you're a Yankees fan, Mets fan, Red Sox Fan, Rays fan, Nationals fan, etc..., we can all agree that tonight, baseball will lose a piece of history. We should put all bickering aside, and take a moment of silence to reflect on everything that has happened at this wonderful place over the last 85 years.
Honestly, if they didn't go and ruin the stadium in 75' I would be less inclined to look forward to the New Yankee Stadium.
I'd rather they just put the old one back the way it was, but that's in a perfect world. The new one looks way more in the spirit of how Yankee Stadium should look. As opposed to the way it looks now.
To be honest i rather not have a new stadium either your probally right it is all about the money which is ridiculous that they are choosing money over history and tradition
We don't want a new stadium! There was a huge protest in 2000 when Fenway was going to be replaced. Besides, new stadiums are not awarded as prizes for success to "deserving" teams, they are built by team owners and cities to improve revenue for the club and the city. The Nationals just built a new stadium and they suck, the Mets are rebuilding and they haven't won in 22 years. The Rays are building a new stadium, and until this year, haven't produced anything resembling success.
20,000 more fans to see the 4th place Yanks. Im sure theyre really happy. They boo their best players the minute they fail to live up to their spoiled expectations. I dont doubt Fenway's small. My point was that we didnt need a billion-dollar luxury stadium to win 2 of the last 4 World Series. We have all our history there to enjoy, despite some discomfort, we wouldnt have it any other way. Enjoy the post-season, Yanks. Tee time is 9 AM on 9/29 on the Palm Beach Golf Course.
Yeah, maybe we could win them more frequently if we had a $220 million payroll and injected our players with steroids like the Yankees of the late 90's.
New stadiums provide more revenues for the teams. Hopefully the owners will spend most of that for better players. The only reason why these two stadiums remain is that these teams have wonderful local TV packages smaller market teams don't have. Its only a matter of time before the old ones are replaced. Fans want the convenience and amenities of the new stadiums.
i cant wait to go to the next yankees game. i think its a shame that theyre knocking down the statdium but i think this will be a nice stadium since its the yankees. theyre the only ones that could afford a really nice stadium and keep a good team going.
How come Wrigley Field is good enough for the Cubs and Fenway Park is good enough for the Defending World Champion Boston Red Sox but the Mets and Yankees need new luxury palaces?
Cmon now MANSHOTS. Yank Stadium okay, but the Mets really needed a new park. Shea was built in the 60s as a cookie cutter stadium, Wrigley is a classic ball field, much like the "new" stadiums are now going back to. Shea is a rotting bowl.
The Infamous Wall at "Forbes Field" still stands today. Take the Yankees there to see that wall. Remember, The Yankees lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates on the Bill Mazourouski Homerun. "The 1960 World Series". New YORK Yankees World Series Moments bought to you by "The Baseball Fan". TOO BAD.
looks pretty vanilla to me.and the seats are flattened out.fans are going to be far away from the action.just got done looking at twins new stadium. Now they did theirs right.
I took the subway up to the BX when I was up in NY, and I said to myself, this is where my son will hit that ALCS-clinching home run to send the Red Sox to the World Series in about 20 years.
Not for nothing, but it looks like it's gonna be a wonderful park, too bad they've eliminated 10,000 seats.
looks to be top of the line, the yankees wouldnt settle for anything less. im still gonna miss the old stadium =(. they should make it a walk through museum.
i have to say that the outside looks like a lifeless peice of concrete at least its cross town rival looks interesting from the outside. personally i think old-yankee stadium is over rated sure it has the history and legends but other then that its not that good of a stadium the concourses and seats are so damn cramped. thank god both new york teams are getting new stadiums
The old yankee stadium is not gonna get torn down. George Steinbrunner is gonna turn it into a exhibit for people to visit and tour. At least thats wat i heard.
This new Yankee stadium looks gorgeous. The combining of 1923 and 1976 style is very clever mainly because I wasn't born when the ORIGINAL Yankee Stadium was there before it was renovated. It'll be sad to say goodbye to the old Yankee Stadium but I hope and pray that the traditions continue on in this new stadium.
The weather here is really weird lol....it doesnt rain a whole lot just the periods when its supposed to rain (like April-May thats when it rains the most) and sometimess in the summertime it rains after a long heat wave
Hey thanks man we won the american league . Dand bro I stayed up till like 130am or so but hey what can I say im a true fan and ITS UP TO YOU NEW YOUK NEW YORK
Well I am a RAYS fan but this looks like a great stadium and I like the yankees better than the red sox. But I hope that the RAYS keep the trop its better than the stadium they want. And well lets go RAYS and some1 plz give me a thumbs up lol Lets go yankees and RAYS
Im glad they kept the staduim look somewhat like the old one. Im not a yankee fan but Iam a sports history buff and I say good job to the yankee organization.
Wow im very dissapointed in the Yankees organization. They have betrayed the regular fan like you and me. I attend a regular of 7 Yankee games a year and 2 Road games. I will probably not afford to go to more than five games. This Stadi

Stop complaining that the Yankees are getting a new Yankee Stadium. Isn't it obvious it's to make more money? This thing is going to be a money making machine. Look who they are building to...all the rich business owners.
RdSoxFan618 3 years ago
its not to make more money. its becasue the club houses are a peice of shit. if u just watch espn or any sport talk show all the players agree. the park was built in 1923 in the bronx you cant expect anything great
vinnyzanetti 3 years ago
yeah cuz fenway dose not have the highest ticket prices in sports or anything lol. They built those shitty BLEACHER saets on the monster and charge an arm and a leg for the working class base ball fan, right ? LOL. Typical dumbass sox fan.

I heard there still are leaving the orginal yankee stadium field, but it's going to be a park right next to then new Yankee Stadium.

I would say Jeter.
I really don't see A-Rod being around too much longer.

it might be called Yankee Stadium, but their no way it will keep up with the history of the old one, So its going to the house that ruth built to the house that jeter built
portugalteen21 3 years ago
What bothers me most about this design is that the higher up you sit, the farther back you are from the action. In the "old" Yankee stadium, the upper deck hung over the lower deck so you were closer to the field. This new plan, like all of the new ballparks, wants to provide the fan with as much sunlight as possible. Great but I don't want to sit so far back and unfortunately, the Upper Deck has always been my domain. Yankee Stadium is expensive! Plus, the upper deck in general is MUCH smaller!
JVIPER88 3 years ago
pissed about this new stadium. Im guna miss all the character of the place and moments that happened at the old. Guna be hard to be such a success as the real Yankee Stadium but their still my team.
belajojo 3 years ago 3
It makes me sick to my stomach that both team ownerships are getting away with this. You'd think the politicians that enable this crap would understand the backlash. I'm a new yorker who lives in florida. I shutter to think what it will be like the next time I come home because I will not step foot in stadiums I don't agree with. Neither team has given any legitimate reasoning as to why this is needed. All I've heard is we want we want we want! How bout we need?!give us a reason!
bvd1022 3 years ago
Stay in Florida and shutter. There probbaly isn't a single person alive that didn't love the old Ball Park...However it was falling apart and was actually becoming dangerous. I loved my 94 Accord but had to give that up too
fitness77 3 years ago 2
That is why there is a concept known as renovating Im old school and maybe you and I just have differing opinions but there is no way on gods green earth that tradition and history can be transferred from a historical landmark to a place that is costing a billion dollars. You cant put a price on that. Thats how I feel about it. The mystique wont be there, it wont be Yankee Stadium no matter how they slice it no matter how they make it look. Its sad Corporate tradition killing

bvd1022 3 years ago 3
1 Renovating would have cost virtually the same.
2 In down economy this project put NYer's to work
3 The TAX revenue that this new Stadium will generate is so badly needed.
4 NY is stronger when NY is building and its great to see structures go up other then Luxury Appts. Lets finally rebuild ground zero.
Look I was at the last game and I am sad to see it go - but at the end of the day baseball is a business and successful businesses embrace change or get rolled over by it.
fitness77 3 years ago
1 Renovating isnt neccasary. Yankee stadium is in fine conditions.
2 NY could use the funds to construct a more neccasary structure+construction working aint egxactly a good job.
3 HA it uses tax money for construction. Yankee stadium 1 sells out anyway, wtdiff?
4 Ya not luxury apartments, but luxury baseball stadiums so ony rich people can go.

smo699 3 years ago
Whether you're a Yankees fan, Mets fan, Red Sox Fan, Rays fan, Nationals fan, etc..., we can all agree that tonight, baseball will lose a piece of history. We should put all bickering aside, and take a moment of silence to reflect on everything that has happened at this wonderful place over the last 85 years.
tjoceasde 3 years ago 2
Amen to that Fellow Yankee fan.History and Tradition should be the Focus.
koolbossjock 3 years ago
Honestly, if they didn't go and ruin the stadium in 75' I would be less inclined to look forward to the New Yankee Stadium.
I'd rather they just put the old one back the way it was, but that's in a perfect world. The new one looks way more in the spirit of how Yankee Stadium should look. As opposed to the way it looks now.
msupuma1 3 years ago 2
To be honest i rather not have a new stadium either your probally right it is all about the money which is ridiculous that they are choosing money over history and tradition
HiImO 3 years ago 2
We don't want a new stadium! There was a huge protest in 2000 when Fenway was going to be replaced. Besides, new stadiums are not awarded as prizes for success to "deserving" teams, they are built by team owners and cities to improve revenue for the club and the city. The Nationals just built a new stadium and they suck, the Mets are rebuilding and they haven't won in 22 years. The Rays are building a new stadium, and until this year, haven't produced anything resembling success.
crixxxxxxxxx 3 years ago
look at the rays fan jumping on the band wagon..where were you last year when they won 68 games?
HiImO 3 years ago
and there about to end up in 4th place this year how sad they better do better if they wanna fill in this place next year
tbrays98 3 years ago
20,000 more fans to see the 4th place Yanks. Im sure theyre really happy. They boo their best players the minute they fail to live up to their spoiled expectations. I dont doubt Fenway's small. My point was that we didnt need a billion-dollar luxury stadium to win 2 of the last 4 World Series. We have all our history there to enjoy, despite some discomfort, we wouldnt have it any other way. Enjoy the post-season, Yanks. Tee time is 9 AM on 9/29 on the Palm Beach Golf Course.
crixxxxxxxxx 3 years ago
Yeah they won 2 of the last 4 world series but at tht rate it's still gonna take along time to catch us.
VAPYankees4 3 years ago
Yeah, maybe we could win them more frequently if we had a $220 million payroll and injected our players with steroids like the Yankees of the late 90's.
crixxxxxxxxx 3 years ago
You can have your billion-dollar mega stadiums for rich businessmen, Yanks. We'll keep lil' old Fenway with all the heart and history intact.

How come Wrigley Field is good enough for the Cubs and Fenway Park is good enough for the Defending World Champion Boston Red Sox but the Mets and Yankees need new luxury palaces?
MANSHOTS 3 years ago
Cmon now MANSHOTS. Yank Stadium okay, but the Mets really needed a new park. Shea was built in the 60s as a cookie cutter stadium, Wrigley is a classic ball field, much like the "new" stadiums are now going back to. Shea is a rotting bowl.
bbasher79 3 years ago
Because there is no room to build around Fenway.
The first thing the new ownership tried to do when they took over was get a new park.
The only place they could build was miles outside of boston and they choose not to.
Haters to the left.
ToneBenoit 3 years ago
Citi field looks a little better IMO.... but both will be awesome
dalario76 3 years ago
Agreed. The Mets spent about $400 million less yet their new park looks fantastic. New YS looks just okay.
bbasher79 3 years ago
The Infamous Wall at "Forbes Field" still stands today. Take the Yankees there to see that wall. Remember, The Yankees lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates on the Bill Mazourouski Homerun. "The 1960 World Series". New YORK Yankees World Series Moments bought to you by "The Baseball Fan". TOO BAD.

I took the subway up to the BX when I was up in NY, and I said to myself, this is where my son will hit that ALCS-clinching home run to send the Red Sox to the World Series in about 20 years.
Not for nothing, but it looks like it's gonna be a wonderful park, too bad they've eliminated 10,000 seats.

i have to say that the outside looks like a lifeless peice of concrete at least its cross town rival looks interesting from the outside. personally i think old-yankee stadium is over rated sure it has the history and legends but other then that its not that good of a stadium the concourses and seats are so damn cramped. thank god both new york teams are getting new stadiums

GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!

It´s a great stadium but shouldn't modern stadiums have a removable roof cover for rain? Doesn't it rain a lot in NY?
