  • I kinda miss how low key and personal Doctor Who could be. Tennant did an alright job of that but I think most of the Matt Smith stories seem to be everything leading to some grand finale...

  • interesting he calls her Vicki first who he travelled with in his First Incarnation.

  • We find out in The Sontaran Stratagem that the Doctor never took Sarah Jane's advice and resigned. He just left UNIT and never came back, except for the occasional crisis like in Time Flight and Battlefield.

  • maby the tenth doctor asked donna if she wanted to travel with him because she (sara) kinda looks like donna??

  • @sixsephiroth11 Hmm, I never thought of that.

  • >Goes through 4 lives over 750 years

    >Goes through 7 lives in under the next 200 years

    Wut

  • @Redchakra007 That's called a mid-life crisis.

  • @Redchakra007 He got a bit reckless in his old/young age, I guess. :P Of course, a lot of people think he's completely lying about his age, and there's actually evidence that he's considerably older than he says he is.

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock He could be older. There's that one line in The Mind of Evil where the Doctor almost blurts out that he's thousands of years old. Of course, he may not be using Earth years.

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock That's very true. The Sixth Doctor claimed to be 900, and the Seventh Doctor said after he regenerated that he was 953 or something around that mark. He then celebrated his 1000th birthday before regenerating into the Eighth Doctor, who has aged about 200 years (not to mention the 600 years he spent on a planet in one audio drama). So by the end of his life, 8 was about 1800 years old at least. Yet somehow 9 is 900 years old. Maybe he was de-aged by something?

  • RIP Liz Sladen </3

  • @clarinetyful She'll never be forgotten.

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock Not at all.

  • Sarah Jane Smith: never standing for angst. We salute you!

  • @LongLiveHumour Isn't she just perfect in this scene? Love her!

  • Love the special effects!!!!!!

  • @Jonaslover101xxx They did their best!

  • One of the best doc who episodes.

  • @Hopliteproductions11 I agree; it's definitely one of my favorites.

  • Anyone noticed that the ugly face was cross eyed?

    Made me laugh X-D LOL!!

  • @TimeTravelinc Haha, no, I never noticed that!

  • I love Liz Sladen in this scene. She's a breath of fresh air. She just walks in and lights up a room.

  • @JamesOhGoodie She pretty much has that effect in everything she does. :)

  • I LOVE TOM BAKER he is the best doctor

  • @historygeek120 He was pretty cool. :)

  • Just after they landed was that the spooky music button that the Doctor pressed? :P

  • @mrmistoffelees69 Haha, seems to be. :D

  • Whenever you're sad or bored. Or in double maths. Just think of this clip. It will make you smile.

  • @misssupercookie2011 That's very good advice. Your comment made me smile too!

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock aaw thnx. ever been in double maths?

  • @misssupercookie2011 Nope. Doesn't sound fun though. :/

  • Isn't he the guy who played Puddleglum from Narnia: The Silver Chair?

  • @ArchelStudio Yes, he is!

  • I grew up watching this show. Though Leela was my fav, I still like Sarah Jone. So sad that Liz Sladen passed away. I found out recently that Nicholas Courtney died shortly before her :( - I hope Tom Baker last longer ;_;

  • @AbbiNixdorf Sarah Jane* my keyboard hates meh :p

  • @AbbiNixdorf It is sad about Nicholas and Lis, but Tom seems to be doing pretty well still. I think he'll be around a while yet. :)

  • Who was Albert, anyway?

"As long as Albert didn't wear it, surely..."

  • @HamburgerJameson She's referring to Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband....

  • @slightlyfloored Thanks, I always thought it was the Second Doctor's companion, Victoria... Makes so much sense, thanks a lot!!!!

  • @HamburgerJameson Well, the Doctor is talking about his old companion, but Sarah takes him to mean the queen. :D

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock Thanks!

  • "A mental projection of that force is beyond imagination."

    Well, that's sort of ironic.

  • @TheBulletOfIce Ah, the Doctor loves puns. :)

  • Hey, he took the brake off before landing! River would be proud.

  • @AtarahDerek Haha, she would be!

  • well, seriously guys it was made 35 or so years ago...is it really their fault the music was kind of weird and the special effects were so bad? i heaps prefer the old doctor who plot lines (not saying the new ones are bad!) to the new ones, they have a lot more depth because they used to be in 4 episode parts rather then 1 or 2 parts. the plots were excellent! mostly...

  • @Nadz3813 I agree that the stories and characters are far more important than special effects, and really, they did pretty well considering their time period and low budget. But I think most of the people here don't mean anything bad by pointing out the effects. I delete all of the nasty troll comments. :)

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock well said ! The storys rocked compared to today's era !

  • @DOWSOE Thank you. :) I personally love both the old and new episodes.

  • @Nadz3813 Never seen the old stuff, but I would love to. But knowing me I would have to start from episode 1 to where the show is currently. Lol. But the music is awful, I don't care about the special effects. The music is like the shell scenes are wrapped in, they can make or break moments.

  • @Nadz3813 i dont know i think if you watch each episode from the first episode of the first series all the way through to last episode of the new series each episode is tremendously better then the last

  • Tom baker is THE Doctor for me, he was the Doc when I was a Lad, Him together with Sarah Jane were a great combination .

  • @HappyandAtheist They were indeed a fantastic pair; one of the very best.

  • Am I the only one who thinks Matt Smith acts akin to Tom?

  • @MrFishman55 No, in fact Matt's performance has shades of more than one classic Doctor. He also really reminds me of Patrick Troughton, with his clownish ways. :)

  • The music is so dang cheesy!

  • @ChelseCreek84 Well...yeah, sorta... ;P

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock Haha, well, this was the first clip I've seen of classic doctor who, and the music just sort of caught me by surprise :)

  • @ChelseCreek84 It's not ALWAYS this...cheesy. :P And if this was your first classic clip, what did you think? Besides the music, I mean.

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock I think it's great. I find it interesting linking the future doctor with the past, and especially getting to know a younger Sarah Jane. I've started watching full episodes now...the very beginning, the 1st doctor. It's really cool.

  • @ChelseCreek84 I'm really glad you like it. The classic series is fantastic both on its own and taken with the new series. I hope you continue to enjoy it! :D

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock Will do :)

  • Aghh, she was amazin and i always have & always will love her!! RIP lis x

  • @LittleMonsterXpurple Yes, she was amazing, and she will always be loved and remembered. Thank you for commenting. :)

  • Oh Sladen was soo cute back then !!!!!!

  • @DOWSOE She was, wasn't she? And she stayed beautiful her whole life. :)

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock might be a bit funny, but Lis' improv kinda gave me a feeling "I care not for your midlife crisis, dear doctor" : D in a humourously cute way

  • @DOWSOE Yeah, she just sort of blows him off, but in a way that's like she telling him that he's really fine and he'll get over it. She was so good for Four!

  • nothing can enter the TARDIS huh well bring on donna noble

  • @wayaif Haha, yep! Silly Doctor, always being proved completely wrong. :P

  • i love how the special effect have barely improved in all those years. doctor who is the best (:

  • @littlemissmello Aw, I love their special effects! And besides, the story and characters are the important parts. ;)

  • "Oh, I knoooow you're a time lord." lol she was so brilliant! Rip :(

  • @OwlCityFan26 Yeah, she was awesome. I always thought she was pretty adorable in this scene, too.

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock yeah. :( cancer seems to take the best people out of our world prematurely.

  • I love the special effects of the time. I can only imagine the discussions...

"The TARDIS is in trouble and crashing around. How will we show that on screen?"

"I know, let's hang a model in a fishing line and tweak the string around a bit."

    "Brilliant!"

  • @silarnon I love them too. People act like they can't take a show seriously when the effects are less than convincing, but what do effects have to do with story or acting? Nothing, that's what. ;)

  • @silarnon Best description ever!

  • Victoria traveled with the Doctor? She can't have liked it very much. Or remembered it, given "Tooth and Claw".

  • @Imitorar The Doctor is actually talking about a past companion of his named Victoria Waterfield, who traveled with his second incarnation. But of course Sarah Jane doesn't know that, hence the joke about Albert. :)

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock

Oh, THAT Victoria. I didn't catch the reference, knowing classic Doctor Who mostly from encyclopedia articles. Thanks for clearing that up.

  • @Imitorar No problem! I didn't get it the first time either. :)

  • @Imitorar victoria waterfield she traveled with the 2nd doctor

  • One of Elizbaeth Sladen best moments and lovey menation oif Victoria

  • @loonytunescrazy Yes, I love Lis here; she's really adorable! And I always love references to past companions. :)

  • You gotta love the old exterior tardis effects! :)

  • @TheEddiejones15 Yep, Tardis on a string!

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock Before dem new fangled 3D special effects

  • @SlamageEntertainment Oh, I think this counts as 3D. Just not dem new-fangled computer effects. :P

  • Ah the golden years of of Doctor Who shows; how i miss watching them while laying in living room floor in front of the Televison when i was but a lad.

  • @robregD03100282 At least nowadays you can rewatch them on DVD, and share them with the next generation. This show never gets old!

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock Agree :D

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock Thank you! :)

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock Thanks for the info! :)

  • @antaloliver No problem at all!

  • Ahhh, sorry! Nevermind my question!

  • @antaloliver Ok, no problem! ;P

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock Thanks!

  • Whats the name of the episode?

  • OMG! The face of a........HORSE?!? LOL!01:28

  • @antaloliver Haha, it's supposed to a jackal. Everyone keeps calling it a horse though. :P

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock Since this serial was based on the Egyptian god Set (Sutekh being another name for him), the head was a representation of the "Set animal" which has never been given a concrete real-world counterpart, though it's been generally seen as some combination of donkey, jackal, and aardvark.

  • @Vlorsutes Oh, yeah, duh. I forgot all that. I thought he was represented by a jackal, but of course you're right; it was a mythical animal. Thanks for setting me straight!

  • Is it just me, or did Meshing and quality look better in the 70's instead of the 80's

  • @Pizzaboyzmvp I never thought about it before. Maybe they had a bigger budget in the 70's.

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock Maybe they did

  • HORSEH!!!

  • @Pizzaboyzmvp Um, ok?

  • @EmmaJaneMurdock No, a space head horse

  • @Pizzaboyzmvp Oh. I think it's supposed to be a jackal, but I see what you mean...

  • Gosh, Elisabeth Sladen just lights up the screen as Sarah Jane doesn't she? She just has this "girl-next-door" adorable quality about her, that you can't help but be drawn into the scene with her. Maybe it's because I'm a guy, but for me she is the center of this scene even more than Tom Baker, as magnificient as he is as the Doctor!

It is bittersweet to watch her in her mid-70's prime here. Her passing in April this year (2011), surprised me by hitting me as hard as a family member's death.

  • @63DW89A It's not just because you're a guy, she totally steals this scene, She's radiant as Sarah Jane, and inspired every companion after her. I think you said it all. I cried when she died; I never thought I would cry over someone I didn't know. And thank you for your comment; yours is the kind of thoughtful and intelligent comment I love to read. :)

  • @63DW89A It's not just you, and it's not just because you're a guy. Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith has this wonderful quality where it doesn't seem like she's acting, it never does. She's fiercely vibrant and alive, so it always seems as if she's just reacting, as if she doesn't have any lines and she's just living it out herself. It's brilliant, *she's* brilliant. When she died, I didn't cry, but I got this empty feeling in my chest. Elisabeth, you are missed. "Till we meet again Sarah."

  • @demonwings1031 Excellent description of Elisabeth Sladen's immense acting talent. I'm reading her autobiography now, & can tell you Lis had integrity, class and solid character. I think that part of her personality also shines through in "Sarah Jane". She was one-of-a-kind, that is for sure.

On April 19, when sad news of her passing hit, I sat stunned at my computer, saying "NO, NO NO....". For the first time in MANY years, this surprised 55 year old guy actually cried.
