@starrneil Yes, I know. Valaida was very stupid and naive that she didn't leave Denmark as quick as possible after the German occupation on April 9th 1940, when the still half-independent Danish government adviced all US-citizents to leave Denmark before it was too late. Valaida was arrested for illegal drugs, and too by the Germans because she was an alien jazz artist. The Danish Foreign Ministery kept asking to Valaida all the time, during her imprison in Germany in 1941, that saved her life!
@starrneil It was Valaida's damned luck that Denmark during the German occupation 1940-45, all the time was under the surpreme control by the German Foreing Minister v. Ribbentrop and not Heinreich Himmler the commander of the SS. The German occupation under the v. Ribbentrop administration saved ten thousands of innocent lifes in Denmark during WW2, including Valaida Snow! The situation in Denmark first got really bad after the German introduction of Marshall Laws on August 29th 1943.
my goodness, what a fantastic version, I listened to Connee Boswell's version which I like but I am so, so greatful to disover a great voice Valaida Snow!
Thank you so much for posting this...This is definitely a treat to hear. I love how they have her listed on the record only, as Valaida (Queen of the Trumpet). I'm glad you included the extra information, I learned a lot. She is truly a treasure--this lady is so amazing, she should be known all over the world! :-)
Just heard of her today. She's great!
