  • Very good video by the way. The Terry Theme from Chaplin's LIMELIGHT. Which he composed. Became a big pop standard as ETERNALLY. I believe sung by Jerry Vale in the 50's. And frequently revived over the years.

  • Swanson was big, but never the biggest. By 1920 Norma Talmadge had eclipsed Mary Pickford as the top female Star in the world. A position she maintained for several years. And Norma was still a Top 5 Star up to 1929. Constance Talmadge wasn't far behind her Sister in fan polls up to 1927. For a period of about 5 years between 1923 to 1928. Nobody was any bigger than Colleen Moore. In 1926 and 27 She was the number 1 rated box-office draw in all of Hollywood.

  • my last name is swanson

  • CHARLIE CHAPLIN wrote this music for his 'LIMELIGHT' Score ... Yes?

  • what a beauty

  • I know that we are young.

And I know you may love me.

But I just can't be with you like this anymore.

    Alejandro....

  • I really believe she was the greatest actress in the history of film. Unfortunately some of her work hasn't survived.

  • thank you...

  • I enjoyed your beautiful video!

  • I wonder what her skin routine is, gee

  • Didn't Chaplin compose this theme "Candilejas" for Limelight? The man was unfathomably talented. Genius!!!!

  • some of the portrait photography from that era is mind-blowing. high art, imho.

  • Who has a horse face?

  • love the music.....where is it from?.....

  • stunning

  • Beautifully done. Great choice of music.

  • thats one of the nicest vid's on youtube, music's superb, very romantic, and i ain't got much romance in me ha ha !! enjoyed it very much, thank you.

  • WOW! Here's a lesson on How to Be Fabulous!

    Beautiful, beautiful video tribute. Thanks.

  • Great music, great video

  • Gloria Swanson was astonishingly, maddeningly stylish. I would kill to recreate just one of these shots...

  • Somewhat ugly, wasn't she?!

  • very beautiful tribute. Louise Brooks admired her so much.

  • What's the story with that pic at 1:51? It's kind of creepy. Her lipstick makes her mouth look freaky, and those eyes are scary. And the mess-up hair???

  • What a nice memorial to a legendary woman who lived a memorable life. She is still big and the pictures are even smaller. It was a pleasure to see this pictorial. Thank you.

  • Miss Swanson was a uniquely beautiful woman.

  • that woman had eyes... incredible eyes!

  • I enjoyed the beautiful video!

  • for charles

  • When bitches had class.

  • I'm still big, its the pictures that got small!

Beautiful eyes, I love the pic at 00:59 with the peacock feathers.

  • Love, love, LOVE this!!!! So beautiful. And such beautiful photography! (and I love the music selection)

  • One of the most beautiful women ever.... especially as she got older. Very talented.

  • Hi, Does anyone know what the original song/tune is that plays from 1:25 to 2:25 ?? I have heard a Chinese language version of the song sung -- But would love to know where it is from (or, if there is an English or other language version).

  • I mention Swanson in the Celebrity Song.

  • I know she was considered beautiful but her features are strange and her eyes so hard-looking, it's a chore to watch G S ....- her contemporary Louise Brooks - well....she was meltingly beautiful, her face was adorable, just angelic, her beauty was hypnotic, you couldn't take your eyes off her

  • wow

  • she is just so stunning!

and a wonderful actress to boot !

  • Quite a rude remark about such woman as Gloria Swanson, but I get your point. She was gorgeous,

  • Thanks for spreading your desires all over the wanton pages on youtube, where not just great actresses go to die...

  • Beatiful, almost haunting eyes - those costumes, what class - she was one of a kind...

  • There was something special about Gloria Swanson that just expanded as she aged. I really don't think any of the other Stars had that quality, maybe Garbo! Adela Rogers St. Johns said that when she thought of a Movie Star, Gloria Swanson came to mind. I can well understand such sentiments.

  • You've just said it so right! She was just so unique, and every year passed by made her more and more special.

  • I think Gloria Swanson is one of the most beautiful women in the world, fitting her family name, as she's a real Swan!

  • Why are women no longer elegant and classy like that? Where is the glamour?

  • viva socialismo!

  • Cartier took back the jewelry after the crash....

  • Now THAT'S what I call a dame!

  • she had those gorgeous eyes.

  • I love Gloria! She's beautiful, in "Sunset Boulevard" she is magnificent!

  • Divine, beautiful, great Gloria Swanson!!!!The fantastic star of "Sunset Boulevard" in the role of great Norma Desmond!!!!!!!!!!I love Gloria Swanson-Norma Desmond!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A wonderful, elegant and beautyful woman! I know that everybody taste is different - but I wish that the women of today will be more elegant!

  • @77flapper You are totally right about elegance and femininity. All of the female celebrities today behave like uncouth men in drag. Times were different. Listen to Groucho Marx talk about it with Dick Cavett. The men talked dirty with the men, and the women talked dirty with themselves. They had standards when they were with mixed company, and they didn't cross the lines. Nowadays, there aren't any standards. People today behave like beasts, not civilized human beings.

  • Music is Charlie Chaplin's "Limelight."

  • the '20's seemed to have such a mix of vitality, mystery & fleeting moment... her face seems to embody that unique period in our culture.

  • who play the music???

  • Wow!!

  • The best part of this video, IMO, is at 1:42 when you see Swanson and Rudy together on screen and the music reaches the climatic violin solo. Awesome, to see two icons in such a touching piece.

  • Lovely video and so many that only know her from Sunset Boulevard should take a look at the beauty she was, back in her DeMille days or opposite Valentino. Boy they don't make them like her anymore. Thank you so much.

  • beautiful song! she was such a beautiful soul

  • Oops, I meant Gloria Stewart in Titanic!

  • I hate to be so uncouth, but can anyone identify or know the name of this beautiful ballad???

  • Titanic lady!!!!

  • Ooh La La....

She was such a lovely lady....

    Those eyes, those teeth!!!

  • Very nice work, my compliments. What I find ironic is that as others mentioned, as a Hollywood starlet in the 1920s Gloria Swanson had an affair with Joe Kennedy, father of JFK and RFK. 40 some odd years later, both sons would carry on affairs with Marilyn Monroe. Like fathers, like sons...but if you ask me, pretty fuckin sleazy

  • a Majesty ! ! !

  • Those teeth! Lord, she was something!

  • beautiful! old glamourous hollywood royalty!!!

  • A PART ?!!!!!!!!

  • imight do a history fair on u!

  • Thank you for this lovely montage. Sensitive presentation of a beautiful and talented woman.

  • Im a silent movie freak and Gloria is either number 1 or 2 on the list of the greatest female silent stars. The other woman that challenged her was Mary Pickford. I think Gloria was the best. Her performance in "Sunset Boulevard" was one of the best performance any actress ever did.

  • maravillosa!!!

  • She fooled around with married Joseph Kennedy and even bedded a young JFK. How wonderful is that?!?

  • and how wonderful are the Kennedys for using girls and throwing them away?

  • Don't underestimate the women, I am sure we throw away the men just as often!

  • is authentic glamour the holywood no more jenniferlopez and salma . thanks marcela south america uruguay country neighbord argentina latins influence the old holywwod one woman now look j lo and salma

  • beautiful woman.

  • im ready for my closeup mr deville

  • She was said to have a camera-proof face; could be photographed successfully from any angle, inspite of the pointy nose and rather thin mouth. But what beautiful eyes!

  • April 4th. I didn't even know.

  • Such an amazing creature.

  • My mom knew her, I met her when I was 7...she used to scrub her face with the harshest wash clothes she could find.

  • why ?

  • intense scrubbing to rid her face of dead skin.

  • Thank you very mutch to post this beautiful Lady :)

  • i bet shes italian....and ummm not to be rude but who is GLoria Swanson??

  • Gloria was a silent movie actress, one of the first big hollywood actresses.

  • Born in Illinois on March 27th, 1897 to a Polish american mother and a Swedish american father. And she was one, if not of the great pioneering silent film actresses. A true starlet. She was a Pro.

  • There will never be this level of glamor and sophistication in Hollywood ever again. ::sighs::

  • Beautiful collection of photos. What a woman! Where did you get that version of the Limelight Theme?

  • Not Only Beautiful, but SMART too! She invented the Frozen Turkey Dinner! ( not realley!)

  • The video is excellent and I love the pics! She was a wonderful woman and actress. Could you possibly tell me where you got them? Could you e-mail me them? Thanks : )
