Wow..I never knew there was a Grady spinoff..then again he was very funny on those episodes on S&S when Fred was on vacation or left the show for a while...I'm shocked that it didn't even last long..
@MetalHeart8787 No you don't. They stunk. I think if you search on line you can find the pilot somewhere. Its an embarrassing mess where GRADY gives his daughter's family a painting to hang over their fireplace for a party. A painting on velvet. Of a naked lady. The rest of the show is how the boring suburban family is going to tell dear old grandpa Grady he should hurry up and die. Basically.
I'm a big fan of Sanford and son and I've seen somewhat most of the episodes. Will somebody please explain to me why the Grady spin off wasn't as successful as its Sandford and son counterpart.
@thehoosierfortheUK Sanford and Son had an ensemble of crazy characters then Grady moves out of Watts into the suburbs with his boring daughter's family. The lovable friend became the dithering old idiot. When Redd Foxx left Sanford and Son, Grady returned back to the original show moving in with Lamont. When Demond Wilson left the show a new version was created called THE SANFORD ARMS (converting the junk yard into a rooming house). Grady became a supporting character once again.
A spin-off of Sanford and Son. This show didn't last too long, but one of the stars did go on to star in another series that became a hit. He was Haywood Nelson who became Dwayne (Hey, hey, hey) on What's Happening.
I'm 38 and agree 100%. TVLAnd was great when it debuted but like every other channel it has gone down the drain. If I listed every channel that used to be good and now sucks I would run out of room. Now days if it is over 15 years old forget it. They only show the same old garbage over and over.
@teehonky This is SO not true. Maybe he was having a bad day. I met him here in Atlanta on a few occasions and he was ALWAYS very pleasant. This was in the mid 90's... he was very cool.
@NeyBethSton for one thing i met him in the 80s,when he was still ACTIVELY seeking work (and not getting any),You met him in the 90s when he was "rediscovered" by the dorks who watch TVLAND...So both our accounts are VALID..he was bitter in 80s (as a has been) and cool in the 90s (when they started to air re-runs of Sanford and Son and his show "Grady " on the network)..he's been dead for nine years now....
Create another TV LAND if you have to and keep it faithful.. Oh yea they used to show inside TV LAND..I recorded a couiple of those..they dont show anything like that now. Im 39 and The Dick Van Dyke was before my time so I never knew what they show was like til Nick @ Nite used to show it..
Wow Im really suprised this video got so many hits. 5,000. Amazing. If any hollywood people of people from TV LAND see this. Alot of us say.. BRING BACK TV LAND THE WAY IT WAS..LOL AND OR NICK AT NITE. They has some cool stuff.. remmeber the Museum of Television and Radio. they would show rare pilots and things like that. They used to show Car 54. I loved all that
In the opening credits, Carol Cole, who played Grady's daughter, was the sister of Natalie Cole and the daughter of Nat King Cole. Sadly, she passed away earlier this year.
I remember this so well!!! Haywood Nelson went on to star in "What's Happening!" I also remember the outro where Whitman Mayo is walking away from the camera as the credits roll all in one scene. Boy they don't make comedy like they used to.
Damn, looks like somebody else was thinkin' the EXACT same thing as us: a Norman Lear show with a SORRY-ASS theme song? No wonder the show didn't last. My first time seeing this. Otherwise, it was only something I read about in old JET magazines (back when it was worth reading).
Hi Mike. Yes I myself would like to see more if that show.. that opening is not what I recorded. I actal got that off of another site. it was an MPEG. So I myself would like to see the show too. If you look ..TV LAND is in the corner. I wish they would show it agian. TV Land kinda sucks now..lol & Nick at nite. Other people have complained too about the channel they dont show the classic shows like they used to
I have all four (4) episodes of Sanford Arms (the show was cancelled in less than a month). Unfortunately, I don't know how to download videos onto the internet!

You know the guy who plays Grady used to play Stymie in Our Gang when he was little.
Okonkwo009 2 years ago
Wrong, dumbfuck. Stymie was played by Matthew Beard. Now stop posting online until you actually know what you're talking about.
konajinxed 2 years ago 2
Take a chill pill man, my mistake.
Okonkwo009 2 years ago
@konajinxed Yep and his character on S&S was Otis Littlejohn NOT Grady.

well you're not too far off...Matthew Beard did appear as one of Fred Sanford's cronies

So much wrong-
boring intro, not a funky theme song like Quincy Jones wrote for Sanford and Son.
calebengler 2 years ago
I agree, it needed a bouncier, Quincy-like theme. Still good to see this, though. Grady's my man. Good Goobidy Goop!
