In fairness to him the sustain he generates is insane, I think it's a combo of expert/meticulous positioning on stage and seriously modded high end gear, but it's still impressive. There's probably an Ibanez or a JEM still ringing from sometime in the late 80's somewhere.

It was weird to hear blues licks coming out of that guitar, it's just so out of place. That guitar screams for tapping, sick harmonics, crazy lydian scale runs, etc. In short, it screams "Vai"

This takes me back to the late 80s when Jems started showing up in music stores. I was a big Vai fan & remember spending a lot of time just staring at em hanging (out of reach) on the walls. I so wanted the one with Steve's floral curtain design on the body with the tree of life fretboard inlays...or a green one. But on my budget I had to go with a bright pink Kramer Striker, yeah!
