  • When they are singing together Steve Perry's singing voice is heard over Jon Bovi's. That proves who has the strongest singing voice

  • They should have sang a duet of Lovin,Touchin.Squeezin!!!

  • Steve and Jon are both amazing singers. I wish they would perform together again. And I am so relieved that Jon is OK after todays scary rumours!

  • STEVE PERRY<3 damn he's amazing.

  • um I am not sure if any one has commented on this fact due to the fact of so many comments but as much as I love listening to Jovi, love his style of singing, and love his looks he is NOT the "very first hair metal rocker" I am an 80's teen & my fience worked the shows back then. think again & look into your hair band history deary.

  • @LadyMarble1 come to think of it he actually was an opening act for many of the "Hair Metal" bands.

  • People...comparing Steve Perry to ANYBODY is not fair...nobody will ever do what he did vocally but that doesn't mean they aren't also great singers. :) x

  • Does anyone know what year this was? Love it!

  • @cert2000 it's from 1989 On The New Jersey Tour, from Mountain view , California.

  • I love the old guys hat at 2:01.

  • Seen them both live JBJ just last year. Steve Perry much better voice. I love em both but gotta give credit where due.

  • love this

  • damn is all I got to say wish you had the video...!!

  • THE VOICE = STEVE PERRY!!!

  • I still like the pic of them together.

  • hhahahahahahaaa, Jon's vocal range is wider than Steve's? REALLY? You must be hearing voices literally!!! Without Richie Sambora, Jon is NOTHING!! Richie gives Jon his dimension and so-called register. Steve Perry doesn't need anyone to back him up, he does it himself.

  • @journeyfreek "journeyfreek" obviously a little bias coming into play here. Not only is your statement incorrect but it is also ignorant, jon bon jovi "nothing" "so called register", have a day off. If you had a shred of theory training you would know that JBJ's range is wider, there's no arguing that. When was the last time perry sang? exactly. I suggest a little research and musical knowledge before running down a vocalist such as jon bon jovi.

  • STEVE PERRY TEARS JON A NEW ASS!!!!

  • Some really stupid comments on here by people who obviously knoe F-ALL about vocal ranges. Jon Bon Jovi gave Steve the nickname 'THE VOICE', because in his opinion Steve is the greatest singer of all-time. Yet, of course you folk's would know better,LMFAO !!!! If Steve recorded and toured he would get his voice into top form as all vocalist's must do.

  • WOW!!!! Steve Perry really is the voice

  • When and where was this show? I would imagine sometime in the late 80s after Journey split after 1987?

  • 2:30!!! WOW!!!! Sexy... ;-)

  • From what I have read it was Jon Bon Jovi who gave Steve Perry the title of "The Voice"...great sounding together!

  • the best band ever!!

  • i want to see them sing together!!!

  • Steve Perry giving Jon Bon Givioni a lesson in how to sing~ Problem is, Bon giviovini obviously didn't pay attention!

  • Like, hell! I love this!!!!!!

  • what year was this, anyone know?

  • @rockinghell91 Don't know what year but I always date Steve Perry by his haircuts & what he wears in concert. This is definitely 1980's, he got that "shag" haircut for "Raised On Radio" album 1986 & tour, let it grow a little longer, so late 80's? I'm just beginning my "homework" on Bon Jovi, his hair length looks 1980's too. Don't know if it's this clip or not but I have heard one in which Jon says "we have a friend here tonight, Mr. Steve Perry" so I'm sure it's a BJ concert.

  • @jannierocks thanks! i've deduced the same myself. it'd be good to be able to put my finger on it though!

  • WHAT A JOY!!! A "double shot of my 'babies' love"!!!!! I don't know what, when, where...was Steve at a Bon Jovi concert or vice versa? Steve's hair looks like the Raised On Radio era... Anyway, simply GORGEOUS, both of them!!!

  • Wow two awesme singers on stage together!!! When Jon introduced Steve the whole crowd went crazy. I would love to see video footage of this concert but it seems like there is none. Thanks to idyintn we have the audio from it to listen to.

  • @eljay345 AND thanks for the photo of them together!!!

  • These two are the greatest singers in the world. They should definitely do a concert together. It would sell out SOOOO fast.

  • @master52394 Both great showmen & frontmen too, so yeah, that concert would be incredible! Bon Jovi's going to be in Milwaukee next month, we entered a radio contest for tickets: wish us all the luck in the world! I wasn't a fan of their music til "Slippery When Wet"; as a band, I think their last 3 or so albums are outstanding. As for Steve Perry...oh, don't get me started! Love almost everything he's ever done!

  • @koalajones88 Sinatra was not a rock singer. Apples and oranges. Compare him to Martin or Curtis, then you make sense. But of course, you don't know what you are talking about. (((YAWN)))......... You Bore Me.

  • @koalajones88 Whoever has the most tools, does the best work.

  • @koalajones88 JBJ does not have the range of Perry. Perry is Operetically trained. JBJ is not.

  • @wrg1183 who cares whos great or who has the range their both legends in their on way..

  • @wrg1183 Perry is amazing (and maybe even beats Jon in technicality) but Jon has much wider range. (and more powerful highs and lows, in my opinion)

  • @GoodGuitarSolos You must be kidding..they wouldnt call Steve Perry "The Voice" if not for his amazing vocal range and total greatness. Anyway, I am a huge fan of both and put them on the highest pedestal :)

  • @ambienmydog Watch my vocal range video for Jon Bon Jovi, and you will see what I meant. Perry has technically better voice (both of them are incredible singers) but Jon has wider range because of his strong low register.

  • @GoodGuitarSolos I'm 60, not a musical bone in my body but I'm trying to learn what makes "great" guitar AND vocals. Can't think of 1 singer to match Perry's range, power, purity, clarity at his peak-I wish there was more room here, he talks (Dec. ClassicRockAORmag) about how picky he was, didn't want a note or vowel "to be a nano-fraction out of pitch".JBJ: different, he didn't hit those high notes, but a vacaol coach says he has a great voice, can turn 1 vowel into 3 syllables, and he does..

  • @GoodGuitarSolos Part 2 Not knowing mucvh, I disagree with you so far.On a BJ doc a vocal coach saysJon can turn 1 vowel into 3 syllables/notes?( I think Perry could do 6!) and JB DOES, watch Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen's favorite cover of his own song! It slays me.) I want to learn, from people who know---when you say "technicality" I don't know what you mean! You are free to ermail me: it should be in my profile, or find Jan Odegaard on FB (I hate it) & it should be there,. It's up to you. Peace.

  • @jannierocks Like I stated many times before, Perry is technically a better vocalist than Jovi (who is also really good). Still, Jovi has MUCH wider vocal range.

  • @GoodGuitarSolos Still having confusion!. For 3 yrs I've watched 20+ DVDs of Perry, solo & w/Journey, & about 8 of Bon Jovi, paying very close attention to every detail. Both have very good "technique"? but I still think somehow Perry has wider range. Come to think of it, tho, I don't notice Perry ever going very low (I think he would now, if he'd only sing something!). Jon has never, in what I've seen, done like what SP does in the higher range; the end of "Mother, Father" an example. Next:

  • @jannierocks Jovi's vocal range is wider because of his strong low register. Also, the ending of "Mother, Father" has fantastic E5s, incredible passage. Jovi has gone up to E5s too though, check out my video for him to see it. For example, the ending of "Livin' on a Prayer" (better audible with only vocal track) goes up to insane Eb5s.

  • @GoodGuitarSolos Not only does Jon Bon Jovi have a bigger and wider vocal range than Steve Perry, but he is also technically better than Perry. Steve Perry is awesome, but he is done and has been done for a long long time. Whereas Jon Bon Jovi has been producing album after album and touring year after year for almost 30 years. Too pull that off is the sign of real strength in a voice. Not to mention jon has hit notes perry never has and furthermore can hit most of them in full chest.

  • @GoodGuitarSolos sorry mate Steve has a really big vocal range , i love jon but he has a small vocal range if your going to compare. perry hits high e, f , even g . one of the highest male vocalist in the world .dont get me wrong i love jon , but its so wrong to say he has a bigger vocal range than perry .perry is a singers singer!! just use your ear.

  • @jimmycupples Steven has pretty wide vocal range but Jovi has MUCH wider range in a sense that he has gone higher and lower than Perry has. Perry is technically more skilled singer but Jovi has wider vocal range (thanks to strong lows that Perry is missing). Both are amazing singers.

  • I think I just died and went to HEAVEN!!!!!

  • OMG my two favorite men of Rock! I hope somebody can find video of this. IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!

  • @michaelmerik I AGREE!!! I rather doubt there is a video of it, dang. It's my understanding that it was a Bon Jovi concert and for whatever reason, planned or not, Perry was there and Jon brought him up on stage. Whatever, it's a great moment with two of my absolute favorite rockers!

  • would really love to see this video...bet it was great...

  • I was at this concert.

  • Hey this is amazing, thanks so much for posting it, i loved it. Loved the shot of Jon at 2.25, real shame Perry hadnt done one of those shots too! lol

  • Steve is soooo much better of a singer than JBJ, but Jon can still hold his own. Regardless, two legends on the same stage had to have been so cool, especially since Steve has dropped off.

  • Great Job on the video. Love the photos!

  • what a gem... thanks for the upload..

  • Wow! Amazing! Wish I had been there ...

  • Steve Perry definitely out shines Bon Jovi on this one!! No one has a better voice than SP!!!!!

  • Woohoo! Both "The Voice and Jon Bon Jovi!" both are so Sexy!

  • I would have killed to see these two singing together!

  • yeah does anyone know what year/tour this was recorded?

  • @milomon2000 New Jersey Tour; Mountain View, CA; April 30, 1989 ... the night after Jon and Dot eloped to Vegas! Hope she is a Journey/Perry fan -- this would have been a heck of a wedding present!

  • What year is this around? '87? '85?

  • nooooo way, perrys voice sounds very early early 80's

  • Yankee = Got IQ?

  • you suck!

  • Oh what I'd give to have been there. Steve Perry rocks no doubt!

    PERRY POWER!

    xXxXx

  • Steve Perry's voice just soars!!!

  • Thank you Idytin. Great way to start the day..Such energy.

  • I wouldve spent all my mortgage money to see this...awesome///

  • MAN! That is a bummer... Would have loved to see this performance of two of the hottest singers and performers of the 80's... Just the though of them both together on stage.... Whew!

  • All of the copies of this performance are garbled. I'm thinking they are all from the same original. Oh how I wish someone had a video camera!

Thanks for posting this moment in History! 5 Stars! Still Loving you Steve!

  • fantASTIC two of the best singers ever together please somebody find some footage it must be out there

  • NEED to see this footage! Yes two awesome singers together... Love this song...

  • Does anyone have any footage from this concert? I would really like to see both Steve Perry & Jon Bon Jovi performing these songs together...

Hopefully someone does and will post...

  • I have searched and searched and I can't find any video of them together. That would be a hell of a find. I only found this one picture of them, I know there are more out there, but I can't find them.

  • Thanks for giving me a heads up on this... Really appreciate it... We tried...

There has to be footage... Can someone who has this viedo or any forrage of the reach out concert PLEASE share :)

  • @MAZorgJourneySPfan Amen to that....would love to see that

  • They are the best ! ! !

  • JBJ!

  • superciliousness! Thanks!

  • Knew about this, thanks! Two BABES together---ahhhh. Perry's my #1, always; HATED "meatl/big hair" bands in the '80's, (still can't stand metal!) but recently the newer Bon Jovi has me collecting.,and Jon BJ & Keith Urban are creeping up on my list...but no one will ever top Perry!

  • Great job Ldy!!! That was awesome. I never heard SP and BJ sing together. What a treat! Where did you find that gem?

  • OMG!!! If Steve perry is the sexiest man alive...then Jon Bob Jovi is the first runner up! I really like JBJ but Steve has my heart.

  • And both get sexier as they age!

    Kat~

  • Sorry about the sound on the video it was the only copies I had of the songs.
