Erica put Mona in an early grave. In the history of soaps, there has never been a more ungrateful, vain, self absorbed and un-attentive daughter. The viewers may have loved Erica for these characteristics, but I have despised her for them. She is the worst kind of example for audiences - only concerned about what she can get and not what she can protect. The tragedy of the Erica Kane story is that Mona remained devoted to her, out of guilt for the father's abandonment, if nothing else.
I would like to see a picture of Mona when she was younger. I bet she was a beauty. Even at whatever age she is in this clips she can still handle a close 3:49 with out any magic tricks from the camera.
i don't think ruth warrick ever memorized a line of dialogue. and from the way her eyes dart all over the set (always everywhere but at the person to whom she's speaking) i'm guessing they had her cue cards tucked all over the place.
"Agnes wrote the part of Dr. Christina Karras for me. She became a very gray character. But I could not go into the "Rachel" prototype because Erica Kane was on the same show. As a gray character, she wasn't good, she wasn't bad. She was neurotic. I told tJackie Smith of ABC that didn't think I had done my best work here. Jackie was trying to understand this "gray" concept. So she said, "I don't suppose you would want to play Dorian on One Life to Live, would you?" - Robin Strasser
So true. Look up the clip "Constance Ford - Another World" on youtube where she balls out her daughter Nancy. Imagine if she'd been Erica's mother - the vainglorious little bitch we all know and love would have been a different animal all together!
Without Robin Strasser, there would be no Erica Kane. Robin's performance as Rachel on Another World was the inspiration for Agnes Nixon to create Erica. It's not simply a coincidence that the Erica/Mona dynamic is the same as Rachel/Ada. Nixon lifted the two characters for her own show.
Actually Erica and Mona were created before Agnes Nixon began witing for Another World. She wrote the All My Children sttory bible in the 1960s and tried to sell the show but was unsuccessful. She became head writer for Another World in 1965 where she created Rachel and Ada. So in a sense, the character of Erica Kane was the inspiration for Rachel. Of course Erica didn't come to life onscreen until 1970 after the AMC story bible was accepted by ABC.
@AdArmand That's not true. Erica was actually created long before we ever saw her on television. Agnes Nixon created the story bible for AMC in the 60's and tried to sell it to NBC and CBS but neither network picked it up. When she became the head writer of Another World she used the Erica Kane character as a template for the character of Rachel along with Erica's relationship with her mother.
Robin Strasser played Dr. Christina Karras on AMC. Prior to that, she originated the role of ANOTHER WORLD's Rachel, which she played from 1966-1971 (she returned for six months after her replacement did not work out. Strasser was then replaced by Victori Wyndham in 1972).
The Erika and Natalie battles were my favorites. I liked how they brought back Angie and Jessie. The Janet Green days were funny. I liked when Erika and Marion battled too. They should bring back Marion Stife for a while.
Erika was a pretty high strung girl. Mona knew Erika. A mother knows her children. I had almost forgotten some of these episodes. It reminds me so much of my mother and me.
Francesca James played Marcy Wade on "One Life to Live." The character was killed off by the time Dorian first came to Llanview in 1973, played by Nancy Pinkerton.
You know, it's sad that SoapNet will never have these classic marathons again just to showcase more of (The OC, One Tree Hill, 90210, and The Fashtanista diaries)
I'm sorry Y&R join soapnet after Soapnet stopped these classic marathons.
OMG!!!! You so rock all my life i always have wanted to see erica's wedding and i remember seeing this on soapnet and missing it!!! Please add more weddings

@Lorsonline well...later it is Lucci. Back in the days when she hadn't fixed her nose. She should have left it alone, it gave her character.

There was actually a rumor for years that Lucci and Strasser WERE sisters... but the punchline was that Phyllis Diller was their mother!!!

@Messylin Erica and Dorian? I wonder which one would be the wicked sister... One thing's for sure, it'd be a regular clash of the daytime divas! XD
