I love this song. All the versions of it. I saw Leon Rosselson (who wrote the song) play a tiny house concert in Victoria, Canada a few months ago and he's still writing incredible songs well into his 70's. Pretty much the definition of keeping it real.

maxim from the days of the diggers....
.
For those who don't know about the diggers and like their history in entertaining form, look for the old film "Winstanley"...
So good to hear this song reviived, and so good that AFP's the one doing it. Those of you arguing about her recent musical choices might do well to listen to what she's singing here.
People arguing with @inguz need to get a life. There was no hate in that comment, and any Amanda Palmer fan can see that she has been putting most of her attention on the ukulele... and we are just missing the old piano.
@inguz Excuse me that I took the phrase "You really need to" as not really expressing an opinion. If it was, I apologize. Just please word it better next time. If you are familiar with her work than you KNOW she does collaborative works all of the time, and plays piano exactly as you said. IMO, she is the least "pigeon-holed" artist I know of because of the wide variety of things she does. And I didn't tell you to do anything. I questioned what you said, sure. But I didn't tell you what to do.
@MrKaelas I'm fully aware about all her collaborations. I meant she could collaborate with a band, with the goal of producing another studio album- which I would have said more clearly if I wasn't limited by the word count on this. I think it's a shame not to follow up "Who Killed Amanda Palmer". I just think a more diverse range would compliment her music more. I don't see a problem with saying that. I'm not insulting anyone.
@Inguz I agree. The Radiohead EP was fun, afterwards the uke joke became old pretty quickly, now it doesn't work for me anymore. Of course, it is all Amanda's choice where to go as an artist and we have to respect that but as someone who considers WKAAP as one of his favourite albums of all times (yes, better than the Dolls who I love too) it is kind of depressing to see how she followed it up until now.
@sinnvollproductions Yeah, definitely. She has released a few gems recently alright ('Map of Tasmania', 'Ship Song', 'Such Great Heights') but the general awesomeness of WKAP seems a bit lost now with her recent stuff. I know how much she hated Roadrunner Records, but I think they at least gave her a bit of focus musically. Look at the amazing video series / collection of songs on WKAP- definitely way more cohesive for me. I think some management (not necessarily another label) would help!
@inguz First, she is amazing no matter what instrument she chooses to play. Second, she has/had a band, does collaborative work all the time with others. I know this is the internet and relatively anonymous, but I don't know what you think gives you the right to tell her how to shape her life. Because if you paid any attention to how AFP speaks about her music that is exactly what it is. Her life, not a career, not a hobby, she lives and breathes it for which she has my utmost respect.
@MrKaelas I have the right to an opinion, and I'm not telling her to do anything. A lot of people seem to agree with me anyway. I happen to be a big fan and am aware of all her projects. I don't know what gives YOU the right to tell me what to do in a public forum, on the other hand.
Amanda, your voice speaks of honesty and hope. It reminds us of what we as a people once fought so hard for. Never put down your ukulele. Play it for the believers. Play it for the dissenters. Play your ukulele proudly. Play it loudly. Remember we love you.
Amanda, you're such a talent, and a poet in your own right. That being said, I just think the ukulele is starting to pigeon hole you musically. By all means use it, but you really need to branch out a bit more and start including more diverse instruments into your repertoire again. I don't think this one singular sound is enough to get your message across. Maybe start collaborating with an actual band, or put your talent as a pianist to good use? Just some constructive criticism, no hate!
@Inguz She is doing this one album of Ukulele covers part of a joke and an experiment. So that is why the Ukulele is being used alot right now. Dont worry as much as she loves it, it isnt her only choice. So we shall see what inspires her for the next album. Befor this one it was Austrialia.
@Akyho I hope so! I'm really craving a follow up to her "Who Killed Amanda Palmer" album. In fairness though, I thought "Such Great Heights" with Kim Boekbinder was incredible on the Ukulele.
By all means, you do have a point. But so does Amanda. You see, it is as much her performance, and how the music is presented as the actual music that makes up her, well, music. Right now, we need the comfort the simplicity of the ukulele gives us, with occupy and all. Not really high quality music or the optimal essence of Amanda Palmers talent.
@Inguz You all need to remember Amanda is going to record soon the new album, the actual follow-up to WKAP, with an actual band who will travel with her. Including such tearjerker gems as “The Bed Song” or “Trout Heart Replica”.
If you haven't heard "The Bed Song", check it our RIGHT NOW. It's brilliant and perfect.
@sinnvollproductions She's been twittering and even giving interviews about this. She's got a bassist and a gutarist and she gave a little tour with them, testing new songs. It's going to be very 80s, very synth-y. Look it up on Google. The name is Amanda Fucking Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra.
@Inguz *** t "It's not how you paint... it's your subject that matters". with the brilliant music this woman has already made she could play a kazoo for the next 20 years and still be immortalized... The woman is going to protest marches and shit after supplying you all with years of good music... you should be ashamed of yourselves. That is all

This is my favorite woman artist on the planet... come to Pittsburgh with that attitude, what's up? you aint gonn do nuthin... play games up in my hood... **** please. :-) ...

I'll tear you apart all mother ****in day... whoop whoop... those are barking noises, i'm tired... I'm go in to sleep... lemme get your name... mother **** lemme get it
@Inguz This is her branching out. The piano has been her primary instrument for most of her musical career, and she still plays it a lot. And she collaborates with "actual" bands all the time (there's video evidence of this all over youtube). It kind of sounds like what you mean by "branching out" is "stick to what you've always done."
That said, I think if she takes up another instrument it should be something even more obscure...I vote for the hurdy gurdy!
amanda palmer is no yoko one and will never be even if she wants to. but she's amanda palmer and that's the best she can do. we don't need two yokos but we need amanda fucking palmer. and we have her!! YAY! thanks elaine!
