@shintedtades This song was recorded in 1969 as part of an unreleased Neil Young and Crazy Horse double album. He also recorded "Everybody's Alone," "Birds," "I Believe In You," "Big Waves," "It Might Have Been," "Oh Lonesome Me," "Dance, Dance, Dance," "Winterlong," and "I'm Wonderin'" for this album, but the project was scrapped in favor of releasing "After the Gold Rush," which he saw as the best next logical step after releasing "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere."
you should also add the one from live at massey hall '71. it's a little lighter, not as sad. this version is great though, first time i've heard it. thank you.
@kaptindave I know the version you're thinking of, it sounds great on acoustic, unfortunately that album is owned by Reprise Records, which in turn is owned by Warner Music Group, and I'm sure you know what a bunch of copyright Nazis they are, unreleased music such as this version is a loop hole because no one owns it.
I disagree...I think the live of massey hall version is easily the best and most emotional version of this song. I don't think these electric versions are close to as heartfelt as just him and his acoustic guitar.
@BarstoolBlues33 and I agree....neil needs nothing but him, his guitar, and harmonica...and their should be no debate on that ...those that do will make futile arguements that i dont want to hear
This is the very first Neil Young song ive heard. now its one of my favorite of all my songs

end of the day Neil is happy for his supporters to spread the love as long as no one is ripping people off.
