I think it would do that becaue remember you're blocking the infrared receiver at the back of the mouse with your plam. It has to be on a flat hard surface such as a desk or book or whatever.. :)

Thanks for the video and the links! Finally got my magic mouse to install properly on Windows 7 x86 after searching endlessly for a good tutorial. :)
