Thanks for this great testimony. I have recently attended a performance with John Osborn in the same opera and posted one clip. He is very, very professional and he just made people cry and laugh in the same performance: quite unique and exceptional. I also read your mention about M. Florez,. I do have the greatest admiration for J.-D. Florez however he definitely not is the only one nor the single reference. Osbourn, should his career be well controlled, will be a major opera singer.
I know you don't want us to make Florez comparisons, but I can't help it!
Osborn is undoubtedly a gifted singer in his own right, but I just feel his voice is too heavy for this aria--although he copes with the lighter coloratura admirably.
Excellent! It is so nice to hear this aria sung by a tenor with a rich low register! The coloratura is remarkable and the timbre masculine. I must admit that I am really impressed!
Beautiful singing. Refreshing to hear someone else singing this for a change (although I'm totally in love with JDG too). Very nice coloratura too, even though the voice is pleasantly full and masculine.
Wow, I commented on the ecco ridente that he reminded me of Gimenez and a little Burrows, but here, I'm really feeling some Rocky too. I'm a HUGE JDF fan, but i have utmost respect to anyone who can sing this aria :) I like the sound and would happily add him to my collection of Barbiere recordings...I'm at about 16 now hehehe
Dear Aragall... I was there. I saw, heard and enjoyed. Do I sense some sort of misplaced loyalty to a certain someone who was originally scheduled to play this role? That certain someone doesn't have a monopoly on the aria. Listen to John without the sound of anyone else in your head. :)
Ok :-) I will try. However it is not easy. That certain someone is still singing Cessa in my head. And be honest..his sound is beatiful. On the other hand what a nice person to talk you are :-)
I agree that the Other Guy sings this beautifully. He has his own videos here on YouTube. This one isn't about him... it's about John Osborn and HIS beautiful sound. And thank you, you're nice too. :)
Well, I know you know I know a lot of the Other Guy`s videos here :-):-) If it is going so good could you upload Dunque io son please? Only audio files? I would love to watch some video pieces of this performance.
Although JDF's cessa is nice, i actually prefer this one. If you read along with the music, it is supposed to be this heavy and this flowy. Neither of them are doing it perfectly, but both of their attempts are VERY good. When i read the music, i can imagine a perfect version that neither of them live up to. But what they do and how they interpret the music is AMAZING nonetheless.
May I ask when and where this was performed? I'm quite impressed with his voice- Thank you posting- Ernesto Vasselli

Some people around here don't know how to read, eh? Almaviva is a low role, this is THE kind of voice it was intended for! BRAVO!!!!!

I too am a huge JDF fan - he and Nathan Gunn were my reasons for going! But John did not disappoint!
I sent you a message... ;) Perhaps you will be at 17 soon.
