As for the losses, this was never an important point for Communists. And Khrushchev is the least reliable source to cite, he is responsible for many crimes himself.

They shared commerce and resources (intel and otherwise), propaganda machines on both sides spinned Poland to be the "evil agressor", later the same year Hitler denied or delayed aid transportations through Germany to Finland during Winter War.
Also, I'm not certain if Estonia has declared war on anybody, during its independence (prior or post WW2), but even if they haven't , that doesn't mean they haven't fought.

Красная армия победила в этой войне. Советский Союз взял то что хотел. Захотел бы всю Финляндию, взял бы всю Финляндию. Потери Красной армии были высоки, но так бывает когда наступают на укрепленную линию обороны. Во втором этапе войны линия Манергейма была взломана за несколько дней и без огромных потерь.

And they would meanly attacked even without the war of 1939, as the Romanians, Hungarians, Italians and others!

Also, Finland had a valid point (or two, as the case was) not to rent Hanko, mainly the fact that we wanted to stay neutral in the already obvious confrontation of Hitler and Stalin.
And the invasion was a fact since -38 (the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact), so the political play was just that: political play.
And as for stupid, I'm yet to see a "smart" war...

I am ecology professor - politcs are interesting but most of the stuff here is not too intelligent. That also applies some Russian comments like the BS that Finnish territory near St Petresb. was a security threat. Is Skåne a security threat for Copenhagen? or Dalsland a security threat for Oslo? Soviet union think that they could march in Helsinki just in 2 weeks. But it became a very bloody war. After 105 days Finland lost Karelian isthmus, Salla and some littel islands in Gulf of Finland. But after war all countries start think that soviet union is weak nation " Week giant " Because they failed to beat Finns. And russians losses were much higher than finns. Nikita Khrushchev even say that, russians lost one million men. But that must be too much.

Incorrect answer.
Finland was one of the Axis counties from May 1940 to 19 Sep 1944 (incl Petsamo and Karjala from autumn 1941). However, despite of having pro-German government, in 1939 Finland hasn't signed any official treaties yet and was not part of Axis at the beginning of Winter War.

And Finland was supported by Axis countries in 1941 not 1940.

@Nordost44 The Winter campain showed number of weaknesses in organisation, logistics and equipment of the Soviet Army which were improved soon. Second part of the campain in Feb-Mar 40 went differently and ended up with signing of the Peace treaty which was absolutely infamous for Finland. As for the losses, this was never an important point for Communists. And Khrushchev is the least reliable source to cite, he is responsible for many crimes himself.
