  • RIP Ronnie and Cozy....Ritchie has no equal!!!!!

  • LOVE the shot of Blackmore's trusty reel to reel tape recorder in the background supplying his delay/preamp tone !!!

  • Each time I hear Ritchie Blacmore I´m convinced that was a plot to unrecognize him. His career was longer, more proficous than others with more respect as Jimmy Page, a superior guitarrist in fact but not so consistent, technical as Ritchie Blackmore.

And one advantage more: In the stage Blackmore plays. Oh! He does: with superb, melodic, harmony, ferocious solos and sometimes delicated as a feather.

  • 2 dislikes? How does anybody dislike this fucking masterpiece...

  • Blackmore is amazing. I was given this album in '77 BEFORE i had Machine Head. It blew my mind and i was only 13. Guitars and Rock and Roll shaped my life and still, to this day, move me. I no longer compare the guitar greats. All are awesome in their own way. RIP Ronnie.

  • Blackmore is the MASTER ....

  • I a 44 and still love this song I remember the good old days, with some good friends and a crate off beer we listen to this album and say to each other there is no beter guitar player in the world than Richie and unfortunately Dio who left us to soon (god bless DIO) was and is still the best singer in the world. Ach these were the good old days

  • loved this album and rainbow since i was 13..36 now and i still play it atleast 3 times a week,,its just amazing

  • Richie is ONE with the GUITAR....it is an extension of his body...of his soul....it is like he playing with himself.........ok not going there but had to mess with ya'all. RIchie Rocks and that's a fact Jack!!!!!

  • Watch the sweeping arpeggios at 3:17! No one was doing that at that time. Blackmore is the first shredder ever - and the greatest ever as well!!

  • Richie Blackmore is to the guitar as Dio is to the Microphone!

Rock in Peace Ronnie James Dio! \m/

  • Ritchie plays the guitar like no other. It just has a effect deep down into my soul.. I can just close my eyes and listen to him play till the day i die.

  • Muito bom! Blackmore e Cozy Powell detonando ... um dos melhores solos de guitarra já gravados!

  • Comment removed

  • Blackmore + Dio = The most epic thing the world has ever encountered.

  • doesn't play the drums - he attacks them

  • This is my favorite live performance ever. Blackmore's playing touches me to the core. Cozy and the rest of the band sounds amazing, and Dio puts so much emotion into the song! \oo/

  • This performance touches my soul.

  • There's so much emotion in this performance.

  • What I'd give to see him play it these days!!!!!

  • In the world of rock there are few who can sing like Dio, and there are none who could play guitar like Blackmore. Together with Cozy they were a band that produced magic music. Now, sadly, Powell and Dio are dead, God bless Ronnie and Cozy.

  • Van Halen, Malmstein, [insert your favourite shredder here] etc may all have had the fingers, but Ritchie had soul. And his fingers weren't half bad either! My favourite musician without doubt!

    Such passion and melodic flair!

  • Blackmore : quel guitariste, Powell batteur fabuleux, Dio inégalable..... MAGNIFIQUE

  • Rainbow was a great band and Ritchie Blackmore is a legendary guitarist, but I'm sorry, his 30 minute guitar solos are way too long and start to get wearisome after a while. There are other awesome musicians in the band that deserve to be heard as well, especially Dio. RIP Ronnie.

  • yaa richie blackmore adalah gitaris hebat, melodius and speed too

  • LOVE DIO...HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST SINGERS EVER!!!!

  • music changes through the years but in my humble opinion this will never be surpassed, simply the best.

  • @whahooyzero, I hope you didn't forget it was Ritchie who was being detained by the German police and delayed a major show for awhile. If you own the DVD of this concert, you would know that. I am sure this is something Dio would get himself into. But we do agree they were perfect together....... for a little while.

  • ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME kiss my ass, you will not induct Deep Purple or Rainbow?!?! WTF whose next that Justin Goober dork!?!? Thats ok the greatness of Ronnie James Dio is beyond the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame!!!!

    \oo/ \oo/ \oo/ \oo/

  • Bottom line: It was a perfect time for these musicians and they created some of the best music. No arguments there!! Ritchie for 30 years, was one of my favorite guitarists... along with Schenker, Montrose.. and many legends, but he was always a little off center on stage. But to piss off someone like Dio and to turn your back on this style music to play some medieval BS...... sorry, lost a lot of respect for him. Could you imagine the music they could have continued creating????

  • @DrDougMusic1 True, but he turned his back on Dio for some top40 bullshit is what he did. No if Dio and Jimmy Bain stayed but they had Tony Carey or Don Airey playing with them, it would have been some damn good prog-metal. After all, they created the prototype for it in their own way...

  • @DrDougMusic1 Medieval BS? I resent that, Ritchie has done a lot of good material in BN(though the vocals kill it sometimes I admit) and that genre is far from an easy one to play.

And as for the pissing off Dio thing: Dio was easily pissed off so it doesn't bother me.

  • @Whackooyzero. Sir, I have been a die hard Blackmore fan way before I even knew who Dio was. But when you produce MAGIC like this album and others, you just can't help being devastated when they broke up. You cannot think Dio was the more emotional one of the band?????? He got along just fine with the boys from Black Sabbath. Cozy love Dio. Behind Michael Schenker, Ritchie was my tops. One of a kind. But Dio had an effect on him in the later stages of Rainbow. Show me facts otherwise

  • In memory of RJ Dio

  • @alzheimer0815 Cool !

  • this line up is the greatest of all time!

  • @alzheimer0815 exactly right sir along with bob daisley om bass, rock on mate!

  • This is een awesome performance of catch the rainbow. Blackmore plays so easily, Corzy shows why he was one of the best drummers in the world. And R.J. Dio voice made "the rainbow" complete. Two of them are no more. Respect to Cozy Powell en Ronny James Dio....

  • RIP and respect.

  • Mind-blowing performance, totally and utterly awesome. Simply unforgettable ...

  • You caught your rainbow. R.I.P. Ronnie!!! Rock-n-roll dead, but I am not yet.....

  • R.I.P. Dio & Cozy

  • What a solo... wow.

  • @tickledpinksock the smartest thing i have heard in a very long time...

  • You DARE call Yngwie A POSER!!?

You IDIOTS! I AM SO TIRED OF THIS NONSENSE!!!

I have literally had to write dozens and dozens of comments explaining to you NEANDERTHALS that Yngwie plays with more fire and passion then you ever will! Ritchie is a genius, yes that is totally true. I like Ritchie just as much, but if YOU think Yngwie is a poser:

Shut up and listen to Icarus Dream Suite Op. 4, Eclipse, Amberdawn, and Overture 1383 and tell me he has no feeling. Seriously TRY. You'll fail.

  • both are awesome

  • @Whackooyzero

He as no feeling. THERE. I didn't fail, what now?

  • I said you had to listen to the songs first. And if you are honestly trying to say that Icarus Dream Suite from 0:56 to 3:00 or so has no feeling then you're dreaming. Not to mention all the other songs I have mentioned.

Seriously, I know you're opinion transcends humankind and all who dare challenge but try to flock with the commoners for a little bit. Actually give the songs a chance.

  • I appreciate the fact that he tries to play slow but it lacks the soul. It doesn't feel as though he puts as much "love/feeling" into his solos as Ritchie Blackmore or David Gilmore did. Not to mention other artists.

  • Lacks soul? What do you want him to hold a bend for 10 seconds and then play a 3 note pentatonic minor lick and proceed to the next 10 second bend? Just because it's not bluesy or "soulful"(what is it supposed to be James Brown?) doesn't mean it doesn't have any feel, emotion, or melody.

Though I do know what you're saying to a certain degree. But since when does feel = blues?

  • Ok, you clearly do nto understand what I'm saying. I'm not saying that it should sound bluesy, all I'm saying that Yngwie lacks emotion. I can "feel" the "emotion" Blackmore puts into this but for example, Dream Suite, I find that it is quite "empty" and "hollow". I appreciate that he makes a nice attempt and I do see how he is an incredible musician. But, there is something missing. A little...something

I hope this sounds a bit more clear

  • Well I suppose I can see what you're saying. And I do agree he has a tendency to not play too heartfelt and live he over plays at times but I still am a huge fan.

  • :) He is a good guitarist though...a very good one

  • I mean, I absolutely love Malmsteen, but it is obvious that Ritchie is more innovative and varied as a player. So yeah.

  • @Whackooyzero yh, Malmsteen does tend to overshred sometimes, like in the song "blue"

  • @Whackooyzero I like Malmsteen very much. I mean, it's a joy to play some of his songs, such as Trilogy Opus Suite, Amberdawn, among others, he's really good. But I won't pay to see him in a show, I always see him surrounded by an aura of "I'm the fucking best", like if he's trying to demonstrate how kind of amazing player he is instead of enjoying the song as Ritchie does (just to give an example). That doesn't mean he's bad at all, don't misunderstand me, but I won't pay to see him on stage.

  • Yes. Malmsteen is a Swedish goat fucking cock master and needs to fuck off.

  • I choose not to compare all the great classic guitarists. They all have their own styles and feeling. Some seem more sloppy in their playing, but have lots of feeling. And some are more technical and precise, but still have a feeling of their own at the same time. They all produced some very timeless music that will never go out of style.

  • I don't like going through the logic who is best guitar player. Indeed there are many guitar heroes, each one of them with the style that mark rock music. Guitarists like Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Brian May,Pete Townsend, have marked rock history. Being guitarist my self, top at my list is Blackmore: For the technics he is using on the guitar, he is really so good, the scales he is using(influenced from classic music and Barok),but most of all the passion that comes out from each note he touches

  • criss oliva

  • please, ritchie eats your jimmy and jimi alive!,thats a fact!

  • @zenica12 i love richie but all those guys were sacred. it's really not fair to say any one of them is that much better than the rest. they're all amazing.

  • @codebabe

sky is close and the heaven is just beyond... Thats exactly were they belong to. This song is a tribute to my youth and I'am just getting younger and younger. Something pushes me ahead, no its someone. Or all of them? It doesn't matter, just let our mind flow away through the waves of memory.

  • @zenica12 Not absolutely sure about jimmy... check my channel

  • there are many Guitar heroes but only blackmore can pump my adrenalin to the peak.

  • @syaff1

  • ブラックモア・・・ステキ☆

  • blackmore is amazing!!!!!

  • double base Cozy...he did like to smoke weed..great guy

  • Ritchie Blackmore & Jimmy Page are both among the best guitarists there ever was and will be. Have respect for both of them! Imagine them both in a band as twin-guitarists back in the 70's .. OMG! :D

  • the wouldn't match up

  • Orochimaru666999: probobly not.. but the thought of it sounds nice !

  • blackmore is the best ever

  • Page is so boring sometimes and his stuffs comparing with the beautifull sound of blackmore are dry and poor.Blackmore is developing himself even now.Page is doing same music as before.Riche is full of ideas and his love to the clasical is amasing...I love this guy:)

  • super

  • r.i.p. cozy powell's machine gun hammer drummer.

  • exactly such a shame that he is gone i think he still play the druns in heaven like he did it in this awesome concert

  • please, page cant compare to ritchie in any way!

  • I love these Drums!!!!!!!

    Cozy was amazing!

  • what is zeppo do you mean led zeppo or led zeppelin.don't make page angry.mention the bands name properly

  • Page is the Master of Guitar!!

i love Blackmore but sorry Jimmy has an amazing virtuosity!!

  • Jan Akkerman!

  • c'est extra

  • Can anyone tell me what year and where this was?

  • Munich 1977

  • Thanks man!

  • 77, Munich.

  • ★★★★★

  • thx for posting; Ritchie is the king! How many times was he awarded best guitar player? It was a perfect combination with Dio and never reach again later.

  • u r right bro he is my boss

  • I love Jimmy Page, but hes not in the same league as Ritchie or Tony. I hate to say this but the more I listened to Jimmy I started noticing some sloppiness in his giutar work, hes just ot as clean in his picking or fret work as Ritchie nor Iommi!!!

  • surgpath24... yes, he's very sloppy, but try to play some of his licks and you'll realise you cant do better. he's as good as Ritchie/Iommi or better. his versatility and innovation is unmatchable.

i'm a big fan of Ritchie, but i really doubt he could match Page's performance on the live album "How the West Was Won" recorded 1972...

man i never knew who was better but i just got the entire Zeppelin discography a few time ago and now i have NO doubt of Page's superiority. Page can do anything!!

  • Page was sloppy alot, but my friend thats not all that makes a great guitar player is how fast and clean they are. Page could compose just as well as Blackmore and could write WAY better songs than Iommi and also is a better solo writer. Page kills him in terms of versatility as well. Just listen to the houses of holy album. Iommi has no album as eclectic as that. You need to look alot closer to see what makes a player great. He is in the same leage, he just has different strengths.

  • your word is true...page rocks

  • Indeed!

  • @codebabe Iommi's actually quite ecletic, he does a lot of cool Jazzy stuff.

  • Oh my god...!

  • dn se kanei na aisthanesai mikros kai asimantos?einai toso omorfo p me kanei na miso ta skatopozera p akoun 2 kommatia kai herontai

  • apo ta kalytera Hard Rock ever kai protypo gia ta metal sygrotimata!!

  • exeis dikio file mou .. \m/ long live rock n roll

  • 4 minutes and 15 seconds. If you soul is not moved, you don't have one.

  • oh, yeah, this little fucker is awesome :)

  • The combination of Dio and Blackmore will never be matched. As much as I love what Dio did with Sabbath, he was at his vocal and spiritual height during this performance.

  • MAGIC!

  • what the fuck are you on,angus is a 3 chord wonder man, ritchie is a genius,he doesnt have to act like a twat to be noticed,no gimicks just ritchie and he is truly mesmarising and he new it,and so should you.

  • Epic performance!

  • AWESOME!!!! Blackers was truly the god of guitar no one and i mean no one to this day could even aproach this guy in his prime he was just ridiculously talented other worldly as his old band mate Roger Glover described him as

  • catch the rainboe is pure magic

  • Read these comments!!! Posters attaboy, Profound statements. Damnit, you all get it.

  • Well said... Nobody of my age does really know Rainbow, which is a bloody shame!

  • yea, im 15, and im the only one i know, that know about rainbow

  • este enano es !!impresionante!!

  • Rainbow 1976-1978 about as good as it gets

  • It can't be better than this...

  • blackmore!rocks

  • ya! he's a great guitar player and this song is one of their best!!!

  • They say he's a impossible guy,but what a guitarplayer!!

  • what can i say about the Wizard guitarist Ritchie Blackmore? I've no words, just listen...

  • Timeless and Epic

  • YOUR DAD WAS RIGHT!!!!

  • Yep 5678xc Your dad is bang on the money there

  • no tehre wasn't stargazer in this show

long live rock n roll replaced stargazer

  • Isn't that Dave Stone on Keyboards? Whatever happened to him?

  • Does this show have Stargazer?

  • nope, it was replaced by "long live rock n roll" from the 77 tour

  • Shame, Stargazer was epic.

  • Why does almost everyone here mention how great the guitarist and singer of a certain band or song is? A masterpiece like this ist the work of everyone in the band! Listen to Powell on the drums, Mickey Lee Soule on the Hammond, Clavinet, Mellotron and string synthesizer, and Brain's bass and how they contribute to the song with their playing!

It's not a single person that makes the sound, it's the band! Listen to the song a couple times and concentrate on one particular instrument! Peace!

  • Word.

  • mickey lee soule ? david stone.

  • soooo great! For me Blackmore is the most emotional guitar player ever.

  • Let it shine for Y O U & I:))!!

  • @ladyrock61 He made love to that mike. I get a glow on whenever I watch this video <3

  • 2:32- 2:52...the essence of rock guitar god brilliance...i love the way he ends that crescendo by slamming on the Taurus pedals...pure evil!

  • This song makes me cry. It´s got to be music of gods.

  • Deft guitar and perfect vocal= Masterpiece

  • Brilliant musicianship across board! Can't imagine the 70s without the influence of Blackmore. What a talent.

  • how could you ever get tired of hearing this great music long live rock n roll

  • It's a shame what is called most "music" today

Wear pants below you *as, sell your own line of clothes, what a joke! Have we come to this America?

  • about 2:50 in he makes a run where the whole thing just explodes. I cant really put in to words how Blackmore plays, the way he layers one run on top of another, just building and building to a gut wrenching crescendo. His guitar playing tears me up to be honest.

  • Ritchie Blackmore seems to having sex with his guitar. His feeling is simply amazing, noone like him. He's the Best Guitar Player in History.

  • Agreed...though he shares the top spot with a few others like Jeff Beck, Uli Roth, Allan Holdsworth, Roy Buchanan...and maybe a few more.

  • Listen what Ritchie can do with the guitar!!

Oh God this guy is magician!!!

  • THE BEST IS YET TO BE!The grand wizard of classic rock.A poet of hope for the downtrodden. The single most important vocal tehnician in the rock history.DIO,s voice and presence is a really glamour and his music is a light pleasure given away for our souls. We can,t imagine RAINBOW without DIO!Gifted with a great talent and a splendid voice DIO is an angel who GOD loved. He was,is and he will be always THE BEST!Long live R.J.DIO the METAL KING!!!

  • BLACKMORE IS GOD

  • I miss Cozy Powell, I really do. ;-(

  • i had the great fortune to meet cozy, imet him at rich bitch in brum he was with tony iommy they were working on a black sabbath album he was a great guy i spent 3 days with him he will be beating those drums and god will say shut the f--k up cozy give it a rest top bloke......RIP.

  • I have to agree with you jaguar. I met Cozy when I worked as one of the Hammersmith Odeon managers in 1984. He was with Whitesnake at the time and we chatted for a good while during the sound and pyrotechnic tests. Top bloke, sadly missed.

  • Cozy was IT. The best. I am a drummer and I try to keep the spirit of Cozy alive . I wish that he was still here. And I am still hopefull for a Rainbow reunion in some form.

  • I've just come across Rainbow within the last few days. I knew of them before but never listened to them. Amazing. Now I know what style of music I want to play. I've been into modern Metal for a while but this is where it's at. Real man music but with a lot of emotion.

  • powerful and dynamic solo. all his anger and pain and hate all dripping out in this solo... sets people to cry. Good ol' Ritchie.

  • 92% of teens have moved on to rap! if ur still one of the 8% that still listens to real music then copy and paste this comment into 1 other video box

    remember rap=

    R=retards

    A=attempting

    P=poetry

    Im part of the 8%..."

  • rap=shit

  • my absolute highlight...ingenious sound..great

  • stunning guitar playing

  • Now compare this to the '100 in a dozen' shit what is called music today. Need I say more ?

I bet that none of the House, Trance junkies knows this song. The children of today are missing out on some incredible music and I am happy I 'lived' in the other period, the period of real music.
