  • Can see few firefighter just walk?? Omg....

    common SCDF...

u should train them harder. My time in 2000 was a real hard. 2nd FFC Station 01.

  • And i have to agree with angzihui ... That firefighter ran all the way down using STAIRS and not the LIFT then RAN ALL THE WAY TO THE AMBULANCE to make sure the maid get immediate treatment .. Doesnt it tells sumthing ??? and to the one that uploads this vidz , BIG THANKS TO U ! Indeed , its people like you that makes a difference ...

  • Im proud to the dedications tat these fire fighters give towards all these .. Despite the negativity tat people have bout them , still when it comes to saving lives , these fire fighters do their best to just give it their all .. I proud to be in love and married to one =)

  • hahah, take video only sia all these people

  • Why do people feel so proud to be in the scdf or even scdcc that they had to state that they are from blah blah blah when lots of them complain here and there.. Typical singaporeans.. No offence, i had lots of friends from scdf.. To the firefighters at scene, keep up the good work..

  • SALUTE TO ALL SCDF Fire Fighters!

  • i was from the National Civil Defence Cadet Corps (NCDCC), one of the uniform groups in secondary schools which was established in 2005-2006, and is still one of the chosen CCA in schools up till today.

as a female cadet officer with the last held rank of senior cadet lieutenant, i was given the opportunity to attend a 4-days firefighting course specially held for officers in NCDCC. it was really an eye-opener undergoing such courses. we were taught on how the SCDF personnels have to plan and

  • as a firefighter wat is most important is water.....no matter how big is the fire no water, unable to extinguish the fire....tat y NSF are traine to do that, our job to save life,we are not asking for apprecation but at least be thankful for wat we did.....

  • Typical of singaporean... complaint and more complaint... Be a fire fighter if u Dare... that if u have the special qualities that we fire fighter have! Save YOUR LIFE and YOUR PROPERTIES...

  • WE FIGHT WHAT U FEAR!!!EX 18TH FFC HERE.........A TRIBUTE TO THE FIREFIGHTERS OF SINGAPORE FRM THE OLD SPORE FIRE SERVICE DAYS TO THE CURRENT SCDF FIREMAN........HAHAHA!!!!BILA2 FIREMAN!!!

  • Fighting blazes and infernos are never easy. I just laugh at how silly some of our comments can be. Some can easily give instructions or "they should have..." suggestions, of which they had never done before in their lives.

The hazards are real and lives are at stake. Every action has to be swift and every decision made has to be precise.

They are tactical; you do not go shooting water jet straight from a monitor. Water damage can cause serious, unnecessary trouble.

For those who love to giv

  • Why stop recording? i was totally focused and suddenly stop. But great job of recording.

  • How did this fire start?

  • Another SCDF firefighter here! Ups to those good remarks, well atleast there's some who recognize our effort. For those bad ones, they think they can do better. Especially budak melayu bodoh at this video. Bet they can't even tahan do PT in bunker gear. Haha. Well done firefighters, eventhough the LFAV crew cocked up at first.

  • It's my first time experiencing big fires occurred in a HDB flat.

  • no metter wat u are we are here to help n save other if we can... if u were trap inside how will u feel? u also need someone who can save u... u only can cries n screaming... no metter who u are save n help other:) thanks for posting this video:)

  • Firefighers are the only people who run into a fire when everyone else is running out of it. They are fathers, sons, brothers and husbands, yet they risk their lives to save a stranger.

I'm proud of serving my National Service in the SCDF!

  • Firefighters are the only people who run into a fire when others run away from it. Proud to be serving my National Service in the SCDF.

  • it's scary when i heard somebody screaming HELP! wow i jumped up.

  • CENTRAL FIRE STATION!!!!! SALUTE U

  • and for those of you who dont really understand our methods, please ... understand this, its not an easy job. so i kindly ask of you to show a little respect. thanks.

  • i am a regular firefighter with the SCDF ...

its not an easy thing to do...

with no vision of what's in front of you,

that much of smoke, intense heat and pressure...

we go all out with our hearts on our sleeves with only one thing in mind, to save the lives of the victims and put out the blaze.

on behalf of all the firefighters, i wld like to thank all of you for your kind words. we are just doing our jobs... so thank you.

  • *present arm* to the SCDF.

  • @tjshijie

its not the right situation to use the spray(monitors).

they need to consider factors like water damage, if they use it they'll prolly wet the whole damn building.

SCDF, once again, great going. Ignore the criticisms as they're just part and parcel of being firefighters

  • Agree Shld Have Spray Water Latter Fire Too Big Hard Control

  • Agree Shld Have Spray Water Latter Fire Too Big Hard Control

  • Lol so weird the fire truck never spray water at the fire

  • there fire extinguisher at every level,so there's no need for the truck to do it..

    just bring the hose up..:)

  • Omg~ I teared when I saw the operation take place. Especially at 8:21 when the maid was carried to the ambulance. SCDF, thank you for risking everything for us.

For those of you who want to make unkind remarks, please, these guys can just stay at home and sleep, instead of risking their lives and making their loved ones worry every time they go on an operation. They've chosen to help strangers fight for theirs and their loved ones' lives. Salute them. They deserve every bit of our respect. =D

  • Im a NSF SCDF in one of the stations . Utmost, I respect all the firefighters and the Paramedics for saving lives and property in Singapore. You guys deserved a standing ovation. There's nothing to be argue about. Home Team is still the best! And same goes to SAF. ;)

  • im quite surprised to see negative feedbacks.. obviously coming from self centered people.. scdf, your contribution will always be remembered and u guys deserved a standing ovation..

    *thumbs up*

  • shah887 there are a lot of eyes on you now.. plz don't disgrace us any further.. maybe you are juz an NSF, coz a regular won't act like this..

  • Do you think making money is better than risking your life to rescue others? Good for you. Because that's what we do, even if it is not always as dramatic as on this kind of call. And there's something you have to know: we can have all the training we want, every situation will still be different and more or less stressful.

  • @JoGenJG I'm a french firefighter. So forgive me if my english isn't perfect. What do you mean by saying "I believe i'd have a much better future than being a firefighter"??? Maybe more money, more power? Are you telling me my life (so as shah887's) is a mess? Don't talk about courtesy and respect after saying something like that, you just don't deserve it.

  • what an inferno used to attend a call at sterling road unit fire something like that.. i understand and feel those fire fighters. 3 min in that fire zone is enough. well done guys. save life and property. same as rachy84 that mat is a typical keipo.. stand n watch. what if that was yr unit?

  • I'm very angry with this fucking mat rep who's all the way giving silly comments. I myself an ex-firefighter now and he thinks it's very easy easy to fight fire her and there. Never been to NS, this what happens.

  • It is common for the shouting's on a fire ground. As it shows their sign of urgency, as well as clear infomation passage to their other fellow firefighters. It is nothing negative, but all positive.

  • Great job! Up most respect for our firefighters! Especially those NSF!

I'm having a hard time making sense of what is happening... Why is there so much shouting which i believe is from the firefighters? It sounded like a heated argument... Can titus922 maybe tell us what is happening?

  • Great job, well done. Agreed that fire is hard to be extinguished. The intensity of the fire is so large that it blast a large stretch or hole on the burning unit corridor. The heat intensity can cause things around it to be readily combustable. Great job team SCDF, you had save our country :)

  • pfft!

  • SCDF are always considered the lowest kind below SAF and SPF. But the fact is, SCDF is much more tougher than you think it is. I applied for the FRS post and during the 2nd interview, was called up for the physical test. First hand account, its it even tougher than BMT at tekong I go through. That test really open up my eye and mind about SCDF. Its not easy. Im still waiting if im accepted or rejected. Try putting on the gear and do what they do. I tell you, you will be crying.

  • are they always considered the lowest? hmm...not to me :)) they attend real life threatening situation all the time...risking their lifes. They are the the true heroes who deserved the credits for the hard work the put in. i have always admire SCDF NSF, they have gone through alot in their training to be a fire fighter.. and its during NS, mind you. i believe they are the only NSFs who take pride in serving the nation!

Btw dude, good luck for your interview, hopefully you get accepted :))

  • Greatest respect to the NSF for fireman lift the maid and to the crew as well..To those who doesnt noe the intensity we firefighters feel please refrain from any negative comments n shut your bloody trap!! Not only you never appreciate us risking our lives but also tarnish our image!! To the one recording this clip please keep the comments to yourself..I feel most of your comments about us is unfair..You're not in our shoes and you don't know how we feel!!!

  • Hello. Since when did I comment something that is unfair to anyone here.? PLEASE open your eyes and see any negative comment were made by the name TITUS922.. Or if u are thinking that background speech were spoken by me, Sorry I'm a Chinese, I do not understand what those Malay chaps who were standing beside me were talking about and i can't ask people to shut up. If I know it is any foul language, I would sure have delete it...

  • @titus922 I'm the one who talking beside you ...? Btw sorry if i say anything wrong ...

  • Comment removed

  • sori den i thot the 1 recording is a malay..my bad..well another thing im talking abt the comms in youtube post..sori if u get it wrongly..im juz angry at the comms they post here abt us..

  • Cool mate.. Maybe what they said is really bad. No hard feelings. Cheers...

  • Nice to read all the comments about the SCDF. I am a fireman in the SCDf and I think I need to address some of the issues here.

Our protocol requires us to respond to an incident within 8 minutes. But some locations are definitely not within the 8 minutes zone and therefore we have fire posts situated near these locations. Only the LFAV (red rhinos) are stationed in these fire posts. This explains why the red rhino arrives at the scene first and subsequently the pumpers arrived.

  • u guys are cool!!

  • im saying tat coz im am a firefighter....for those people who always complain bout our job, come n visits us n we let u to TRY how heavy the the item tat we wearing n we carry...so for those FUCKING COMPLAINING PEOPLE...FUCK OFF WITH U ALL..!!!

  • @shah887 hi, since you're a firefighter i'd just ask you few casual questions: in what conditions is the ifex system used?

When going to the site where your help is needed do you guys check thoroughly where you should be? No harm intended but after witnessing an operation by the civil defence yesterday night at bukit timah rd, i found the mistakes made rather silly. Its difficult i know but just wondering if there's any effort involved here.

Cheers to the civil defence members

  • fuck off...y dun u be firefighter n do all the stuff...fucking asshole....

  • @shah887 sorry to be direct but.. I believe i'd have a much better future than being a firefighter. I'm not very happy that you're being very rude, especially when I was commenting very politely. Are you a firefighter? You lack the courtesy and respect. Please resign. Not all firefighters out there are like you, don't disgrace them. And FYI,"Shah" sounds like a malay surname. And you disgrace that race too.

  • dun try to say u have better futute coz we wont noe wat happen next day...you are not God to say you have better future...it easy,y dunt u be firefighter??..i ask politely now...stop finding fault at me n dun show off with ur future..u dun noe anything about firefighter so just shut up..!!.

  • @shah887 god doesn't decide my future. I decide my future. I don't know anything about you firefighters that's why i'm asking. Can't even tell the difference between a criticism and a question? I even stated it was a question. Can't even read properly?

  • u all dun fucked up n say tat firemen is slow or can do their work..u tink it easy to bring hose with bunker gear to the 4 floor...u noe how heavy is tat...we do our job to put out fire n just to remind it is not easy to put out the fire...important is we took part in lives saving...tat our logo...properties can buy new 1 but life is priceless....

  • Dang! i really salute these fire fighters... They put their life on the line while saving other lives and properties. They are just truly AWESOME! we should be proud to have these men being ever- ready 24/7!

  • kudos firemen!

  • That was a very good job by the SCDF and y are the guys shouting??

  • thank u scdf! for those who think the fire fighter didnt make a good job or etc think twice, THEY RISK THEIR LIFE!

  • its not as easy to put out the fire. i do have a brother who is still serving his ns as a fire fighter. its not as easy as using the hose and put it off. the fear the fireman during putting out the fire is triple as all the residents looking at it. if those who thinks firemen is slow, try to be one and u will realised whatever u said about fireman, its not true..

  • stop complaining lah all of you.....scdf and the spf were activated to do 1 thing...which is THEIR FREAKING JOBS!!!! now on the other hand, ask yourselves, what have you neighbours and members of public have contributed in this incident? from this useful clip, all i see about 30-50 residents looking up to the unit and.................do nothing.i did see abt 5-6 people standing at the corridor but i know nothing much that they can do...

  • Thank U to SCDF for keeping S'pore safe and saving those who need help in times like these.

*Ps. what video cam brand are you using? It's very clear!

  • Panasonic FT1 digital still camera.. Thanks

  • Property cant revive a life. Thank goodness no one was killed. Honored firemen and dedicated Policemen, you guys are the real deal in everyday work, sacrificing more than urself in the line of duty...compared to other Capitalist and MNCs people.

Thank you for ur dedication, even though i think the situation could be done better, there's always room for improvement. It's ur enforcements that make Singapore a safer place to stay in. Patriot ur home, not takin advantage of it...

  • i feel that ur comment is by far the best for this incident. Anyway just to let u guys know that SCDF had contacted me and seeking my permission to use this video for their public safety awareness seminar. I'm so glad that my video can be put to good use not only in YouTube but for the public safety awareness.

  • lol.. SteffyHolland seems like u wanna tell the whole world tat u r a fireman..

anyway.. seeing a fire like at it's fully-developed stage, it is hard to combat the fire wifout pumps and equipments.. juz wait for the firefighters to arrive is a wiser choice..

btw firefighters are train to do wat they should do! they dun beg for credits.. people respect firefighters becoz they earn it, not by asking..

    cheers!

  • thats the maid that the fireman at minute 8:21 right? bravo to the fire man and those involved in the operation. we're proud of ya!!

  • members of public only know how to complain but they dun even know life of the firefighter is tough.dont they know once we received any calls, we will drive as fast as we could to arrive at the location as soon as possible??? dont they noe that if we are late to arrive within the stipulated time we need to give an explanation y we are late??? dun dey noe that we risk our life juz to save others life??? we 2 haf familes...or maybe u guys can extinguish the fire or rescue the people urself....

  • yeah.. why not ask the kaypohs and onlookers to entinguish the fire first if we're not there yet? From the video i could see many fit looking people wat.. Come on man.. Give us fireman n paramedic n police some credits.

  • pity the guys living directly above the burning unit...

  • i respect the duty and dedication these men/women put into. unlike other places, singapore is a relatively safe place. precautions and audits are done by SCDF to make sure accidents like this doesn't happen. accidents are called accidents cause nobody expects it or people are negligent.

saving lives are important, but your own is important itself. they don't just rush in without following proper SOP and planning.

i fail to understand why people are so critical over matters like this everytime

  • well said martines132 =)

i pity those fire fighters.. they risked their life and some people juz don't appreciate..

no matter how the fire is fought be it good or bad, their effort put in must be credited..

Kudos to those responded to the incident! dun let those idiot's comments affect the fact tat U guys are still the heroes for tat nite!

  • i serious can't imagine getting close to the fire and fought with it. I had being trained for fire fight during my NS time in Navy, but the heat that was felt during this fire could be felt even on the ground floor from the position that I was standing. Kudos to all Firefighters, helping to save lives in such stressful and intense situation.

  • Adding on.. to SomethingAwesome19XX and nabeiz :

this is something which differs firemen, and you. no matter how much you put them down it won't stop them from saving you in a time of distress. no matter how filthy you all can be, or how nasty a person you are. furthermore, they never fail. just take a look at fire-fighters in the US, they're like heroes whereas fire-fighters in SG are like McDonald workers. They serve you well, but not well-respected. yet again, my three cents worth.

  • Im not putting anyone down. Im just saying that firemen need to be able handle the stress and pressure the job entails! Isn't that true?

  • hmmm? who says fireman unable to handle the stress and pressure in the 1st place??

  • It's weird ppl complaining bout da arrival time, da inefficiency of civil servants, their house getting dirty and even being caught in da situation. Nobody consider da fact dat da civil servants commit themselves there a.s.a.p, kept da fire under control, and rescued residents, while their lives r at risks too. Apart from da job scopes, they r humans as well. Doing their job, get criticisms. Da rest of ppl... add on critising. I think dats normal... So civil servants, got to take it and endure.

  • Police and Fireman: You did your job da best possible coz fire was put out and people r safe. Kudos for all civil servants who sacrifices to make the situation controllable.

martines132: I agree wif you, everyone incl civil servants pay taxes. Dun be disheartened, be proud of ure job coz its honorable, u noe dat.

j0ep3t3r: Y u r complaining bout them? Or mayb they r inefficient, u r better wifout them and u can handle da situation better? Juz asking...

  • Refering to Stomp's article and this, I realise that many do not realise one thing. Tax payer's money cannot, and I emphasize, cannot pay for a fireman's life. They put our lives on the line the moment they report for duty and I believe they put in all they've got to handle this situation. It was chaotic, and I believe they deserve more encouragement. We train to be better, and there are always limits. If you can do any better, why not join them and show us? Just my two cents worth, and kudos.

  • nah bei my house so dirty from the smoke now

  • its easier for u ppl to pass comments and remarks but u guys dun know the pressure and stress dealing in this kind of incidents. lots of factors and safety precautins u need to think abt

  • Agreed. We can only imagine the pressure firemen & policemen are under in such circumstances. Let's not forget however that as ones who endured an ordeal, observed events unfolding (and unforgettably so) & got out alive, we wouldn't raise issues without due consideration of the factors involved.

  • It is their job to overcome the stress and pressure, or anybody can be a firerman.

  • great statements j0ep3t3r, SCDF and police were crap, they just saved someone's life that's all, and yeah, anyone could do that. there's absolutely no need to be thankful, but a tremendous need to complain and bitch about how lousy their service is... men and women risking their lives for ingrates. sheesh.

  • No one's trashing SCDF, we all acknowledge that we're grateful for no one having gotten hurt. Maybe if you were caught in that fire and smoked in, you'd feel differently if SCDF took one minute longer. SCDF just seemed unprepared considering there have been many fires like this before see. So in recognising that, maybe we should consider ways in which loose ends could be tied up. There's no need to get testy. It's been reiterated over and over again; we are all grateful no one got hurt.

  • jeanesther: Precisely, thank you. And I hope nabeiz sees my point.

  • Perhaps u should review my statements to realise that my family & I are indeed grateful, considering the maid saved from the burning apartment are of dear friends, & the lady who suffocated on our floor was rushed to A&E in time. I too was admitted to A&E due to smoke inhalation, the effects of which I felt only a few hours after the event. It was then that I realised, though trapped & unaccounted for, we were virtually the last ones out - 40 mins after the fire broke out. Questionable, no?

  • ok guys the response time doesnt only means how fast they travel only..

take note they did not cover the time when stopping at traffic

and most of the boundary time zone is 8mins or 11mins

if you really want to be calculative take the time you call the scdf and roughly minus 1-2mins.

and i do believe the water was slow..and the LF should be able to control a 1 unit fire without the PL's support.

  • the firemen arrived in the rhino only?

  • Yes, they arrived in the Rhino first, then subsequently the rest of the brigade joined the cause (but not after a considerable amount of time). Having said that, I'm sure there are reasons for their procedures & the decisions made.

  • I think that considering there's quite a lot of evidence that the SCDF took rather long to arrive, maybe there should be the general attitude that there's always room for improvement?

  • Hear hear. We're not here to bash the SCDF nor doubt the intent of the rescuers. But there are many things left wanting about what happened here on Friday night.

  • SCDF's response time was far from the 6 minutes reported in the press & as you can see from the clip, they weren't down in full force initially either. Truth be told, this was an isolated incident that got way out of hand due to questionable delays. Nevertheless, while we've heaps more to say about how poorly both the SCDF & Police managed this incident, we're just grateful everyone got out alive.

  • honestly, the video doesn't show how long they took to arrive so your claim is by best, only possible.

We all know in times of panic, 1min can feel like 10mins.

  • youngplainjuan: I fully acknowledge that desperate times result in an inaccurate sense of time. Having studied various videos, checked the timing of calls made (including emergency calls) & text messages sent/received, I assure you & any other doubters that there were significant delays given the circumstances especially.

  • That's my friend's home, now sadly burnt to a crisp. We live diagonally above him & were trapped for the duration of this video (& quite a while after) behind a thick cloak of smoke - couldn't see a thing & could hardly breathe. When we finally got out we realised we were virtually the last family down to safety.

  • any damages to ur house ?

  • On the 6th floor, only one unit was directly affected by the flames, whilst the rest of us are just having to deal with residual soot/ash & a lingering stench of burnt metal/plastic.

  • My room (3 windows to the right of that unit) kena'd the soot quite badly.

The neighbours right next to that unit quite poor thing, cause they just recently renovated their house :/

  • thiselena: Hope you & your family are well & not feeling any ill-effects in the aftermath. Heard about the neighbours right next to them, real pity.

  • haha..NOPE...i was thr..fireman*..its nt easy yAw...;)but we did make it..n always will...

  • insyaAllah

  • :) thanks for doing what you do!

  • the maid was lucky to be alive cuz the fireman took about 30 mins to get there

  • errr.. thats an overstatement.

  • are u even sure they take 30 minutes? better get your facts right than making false claims.

  • Wow... What a good quality camera.

  • wow.. scary..i feel like visiting the area today..

  • good filming. thanks alot.

  • Seriously, no applaud for the fireman carrying her? :|

  • My unit is next to that one...

  • ooo mine is next next the one with the light on

  • actually mine is next next on the right (in the video)

  • how the hell did that happen?

  • It's a panasonic FT1 digital still camera with HD video recording. Thanks for view.

  • wow what camcorder are you using? if its handphone camera its quite good quality :P

  • Last 1min of the clip, can see the maid been casevac by the fireman. looks like her

  • She is alife. thank gawd
