Bout time somebody stopped and took the time to even realize that katrina hit mississippi too, i mean all you hear when katrinas brought up is NEW ORLEANS. It ticks me off.
we havent forgotten about the other places affected by katrina, it wasnt only new orleans. no one has. all the way in nh we send all that we can in our small town to the areas affected. our floods werent as bad as the ones got down south, but we still know how it feels to lose everything you own and people you love due to natural events. you will always be remembered and true americans do care about you, it may not be much but a small fact, but just remember it. it's the truth.
omG! the white pillars was where my parents met! and i saw my grandmothers lot! and i think Mrs. whites house...she owns martin miazza...Dear God i never want to go through what i went through again.
i think someone else might have stated this sentiment: The destruction leaves me in awe, and I am amazed by how much is missing. I spent 6 year a KAFB and atleast one day a week in Beach Pawn and Gun. Where was it in this video? The driver stops at a red light and you can read "White Pillars". Before katrina you couldn't see that from the road as Beach Pawn was on that dirt lot.
Where are you now. I'm still here in Biloxi. Lost my business like everyone else on Biloxi Beach. Decided to re-open north of the bay on Popps Ferry Rd.
I can understand the loss, and the grief, I can also understand that not everyone can do for themselves (disabled etc.). But the inability to cope & move on simply eludes me in most cases I have heard and seen. They waited in their cars, tents, etc. waiting on their FEMA trailers. Was it worth it folks?
You'd have to ask the people of New Orleans that question. The people of Mississippi have coped and moved on and are rebuilding as best and as fast as they can. Mississippi people don't sit on their rears waiting for government help. You need to go about 50 miles or so west of Gulfport for that kind of attitude.
For the most part from what I hear that's true. But there were still several thousand in Mississippi that went 'homeless' and I can only guess that's because they forgot how to use what you have to do what you need. But there was also a few community's that pooled together and looked after themselves. They knew how to do without power & 'homes' and some even seemed to enjoy the experience. Cook fire, Hunting, and sturdy sheds from the debris were their answer to the problem.
I couldn't help but sit here and cry watching your video. Even two years later it breaks my heart to see the place I love like this. Thanks for sharing this great video.
Thank you. I was born and raised in Biloxi, MS and lived in Slidell LA when Katrina hit. Its very hard to see the Coast like this.I also have a video up of photos that I took 8 months after the storm where most of those buildings in your video had been torn down. But I grew up hanging on the strip in front of Edgewater mall the restaurants that used to fill that area along the beach we were frequent visitors of. The Beauvior home is where I was supposed to get married.
I'm from N.O. and currently reside in Central La. My wife and I used to always drive over to Biloxi to celebrate anniversaries and the occasional getaway weekend. Seeing this is like seing someone you love pass. Too bad giving life back to Biloxi and N.O. aren't deemed as important as "Iraqi liberation."
Its hard to believe tht sum areas hve been left untouched for so long in d world's most powerful country. But i think tht if d govt wud hve diverted d billions of dollars its spending to wage a senseless war in Iraq, towards rebuilding New Orleans & many other cities, d work wud hve been over much faster. Do u agree?
This is still like this...well a few buildings have been torn down. For the most part the only things that have rebuilt are the casinos and even then only a couple are actually open.
I was stationed there at one time in the serive.. Sad pictures even worse to think how much money is going into Iraq to include unaccounted money in the billions and we can't take care of our own in the Gulf region... sad. And yes I do realize insurance settlements have a lot to do with it..
Thank you for responding. Watching the video and listening to the music makes me cry, even at my age, for the Biloxi I knew when I last saw it in late 2004.
I just found out this musical piece is actually Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in e-flat major, Op. 73 "Emperor". I was wondering why I could never find it. :)
i was there just last week hwy 90 and on the beach road driving thru this i cried most of the way thru it, lots of empty lots where beautiful homes were 2 casinos are up there but homes to live in is few drove up to ocean springs on into gautier then over to mobile alabama it was very hard to see but done it anyways, i could not come from texas to my home in virginia without seeing it but at the same time not wanting i have video but dont know how to add it and put music to it
Good choice of music to accompany the video footage. I hope you choose to expand on this, especially since the news doesnt think we are interested in the progress or lack of, thats taken place.

Nice video. Thanks for putting it up. That footage blew me away. It really puts the damage into perspective. I wonder how Biloxi looks these days?

More proof that our government has done NOTHING that they promised to do. My heart goes out to all that still have to find a way to deal with this.
