I learned yesterday that GM Tino had passed away a few days ago. I met Tino in 1966 and made visits to his home and later to his studio for lessons in Limalama.
I remembered his strength and how at ease he flowed through his techniques. Tino was fast when he needed to be and always enjoyed teaching his art. I will miss the master and what he did for the arts. My instructor GM Richard Nuenz one of the original 6 men of Limalama said to me " I loved Tino and will miss the Man".
@gerry200008 , Master Richard Nuenz has a new address for his studio. Look on the web site for the best phone number to contact master Richard for the address. I will see you there.
hey George sorry i havent been able be stop by and say hi or tran ive been busy with school. ive been trainning with brett vigorusly 2-3 times a week for the last few years and im eager to return to your dojo. i hope you and your family are doing well and i hope to see you soon.
Some were decent manuevers, some was complete pitter patter. Most of all, hard to take seriously given the ranges at which he's demonstrating. The attacker is operating some 8 - 12" inches short of his target.
Interesting. I can see this can be effective against the normal average "joe". This seems to rely a lot more on speed and brute strength from size. If he actually went against a skilled real master of say Baguazhang, his weaknesses would be exploited. His centerline and openings are really apparent. Perhaps this system hasn't had the opportunity to actually fight against other systems to test their theories. Even in science, without evidence, theories are worthless.
As someone who actually knows this man (he is my teacher) I can tell you that
1. Those "slaps" are iron palm. They hurt like hell and he can break bones very easily. He is well trained in iron palm, splashing palm and vibrating palm. His open hand strikes will break bones.
2. He is not off balance in any of these movements.
3. As for being inefficient thats a very ignorant statement. Every strike you see is meant to break, damage or disable. He is demonstraighting technique not fighitng.
to brucelee6790,maybe wouldn't, but it's better when you're being atacking in streets by burglars or something like that ,IT'S YOUR LIFE OR HIS LIFE.
i know it 'cause i practice limalama and by the way he blocks the punches with the same hand 'cuz it is a hand technique and his slaps mean to be punches, but he slaps because in trainings we try not to hurt our partners :P
and besides, this whole style is completely based off of counters, what happens when your opponents moves are faster then your eyes can see, which in the tao of jeet kune do, it says that all your strikes should be just that, by the way herc2770 i couldn't agree with you more about how bruce lee said himself, that the better fighter is more important then the style... but what if the fighters are evenly matched in athleticism, the winner is just lucky?
Limalama is not bassed only in counters. This are training exercises and precepts, defense techniques. Limalama estimulates quick reflexes whit economy of movements. In a real fight obviously you try to atack first using waht you learn in wichever martial art you studied. and because it is true that the quallity of the martial artist is what counts you must learn to be more open minded and respect other martial systems.
and i mean come on, look at the first move he pulls off in this video, would there really be any need for any more moves after you just snapped the dudes arm at the elbow? im just saying
i'm sorry for "spamming" this page just now for those of you who like this style but you should learn not to limit yourself to anyone style if you are going to learn martial arts. You should use the "philosphy" of jeet kune do, which essentially means take what is useful, throw away what is not.... this style has some good quality's no doubt, but i'm seeing all sorts of crap as well
lol well i can see you know very little about jeet kune do because of the fact you just referred to it as, a "style" which it is most definitely not, it is merely a philosophy, which allows you the freedom to utilize moves from any style, and truly be free in a fight, something that no "style" could ever hope to accomplish
Hi, all! I sit back and read all the comments everyone makes and if you trained in any style the first thing ur instructor should of taught you is not to disrespect any style, theroy, or philosophy, but to keep an open mind,to be versitly an so on.
The fist is not a slap, you pull your oponent to strike the cervicals in the second strike whit a chop or a palm. We use slaps to improve control and avoid damage.
1:18 to 1:23 guy throws out a straight arm right punch then a left then a right again, and he parrys them all with the same arm, and then he does his combo, why didn't he just do it right away, thats what it should be every time first strike then you counter, why would you let him continue attacking you, you really think your just going to be able to parry all of somebody's attacks with one arm all day?
If is in your abilities to parry a thosand strikes whit a hand you just decide to do it or not. Again is about the person capabilities, not the structure, secuence, style, wahtever...
if your going to send people messages, make sure you do a spell check. i can stand the occasional mistake, but its like every three or four words with you. furthermore ah fuck it whatever have a nice life please don't send me anymore replies
Sorry, my bad. I'm not a natural so I'm still improving my english and some times I forget the check. Oh, my mistake again, you don't like my replies...
god damn it this style is so inefficient with those slap combos, the first thing they should do is the break... otherwise, it will not turn out as planed in a real fight at all. he starts it off with a stupid combo thats dependent on the idea that the attacker is just gonna hold his arm out there for you while you hit him with like a 6 hit combo before he makes a break....
Lima Lama was banned from MMA events because it's full contact. MMA is a sport...duh! Lima Lima is a real life martial art which will kill anyone who threatens someones life if needed.
this is not true. I have practiced Limalama for over 30 years, and my master for over 45 years, and it has never been banned from anywhere. Actually I have participated in MMA and Muay thai competitions and used its principles.
he is ok... but his body ends up in off balance positions at the end of his assaults... generally he is leaning to find an opening... not a good idea in a real situation.

fuck dude this is a piece of crap, put this joker in front of a Traditional Karate figheter or an MMA fighter and he would get his ass kicked in a minute or les
You can't talk whitout knowing the real fight skills of the martial artists, only seeing videos is not enough. Technically talking MMA fighters fight whit rules, he doesn't. Traditional karate is powerful and explosive but linear and recurrent too; limalama has fluidity, awesome speed and kill capability but in the end the fighter ability is what counts, not the martial dicipline, that's what people like Bruce Lee taught us.

Ive traved a bet and ive used "Limatoa" which originates in samoa like Limalama. And everytime i fought ive put my opponent on his ass.
The problem with jeet kune do is, that it fails to realise the fundimental truth.
ITS NOT THE MOST EFFECTIVE STYLE, IT THE MOST EFFECTIVE FIGHTER.
Bruce Lee was an effective fighter.
I have no doubt that your not, cause your eyes dont appreciate what your hands cant see.
Your mouth moves faster then your hands.
