Hey there! i'm looking at a 72 Satellite with the 383 magnum in it. Just wondering how the power out of those engines were. Sounds nice. just curious though please respond. ps nice ride!
Nice job in taking off the vinyl top. I'm replacing mine right now and it is costing me 5k with all the rust underneath! Also, wish you had the Magnum 500 wheels, but still a beauty of a car!
when i was a young paperboy, one of my customers (a 70+ year old) traded in his 63 Imperial on this exact car! talk about grabbing some attention...lol. the coolest car in the neighborhood
You can hear every cylender popping, and that idle makes me remember High School days when these were new. Constant burnouts in the student parking lot.
i have a dodge truck a 69 with that engine im workin on a cam 4 barrell intake and carb electronic ignition and all sorts of other goodies. 383's are truly a badass engine.
The greatest decade ever. Best clothes, best music, girls with long straight hair, best TV, best movies, the drive-in and going to it in the best cars 1970 'Cuda, Superbird, Challenger, Nova SS, Boss 429, man talk about American Muscle at it finest 1970 was the year!!!
@D353rt34g13 oh man could you imagine if those tree hugger people did the same thing to these cars as the peta people do to people with fur coats but with paint. I think I would kill someone
1971. The only year of the Charger Super Bee. That is because, in 71 the Charger was returned to the Coronet line-up. Hence the WM in the VIN. From 68 to 70 the Charger was its own model. Hence the XP in the VIN.
My Bee is dark Bronze Metallic. 383 Magnum. AT w/AC. I've owned it since 79.
Thinking of buying one of these for 15k, but Im not sure. It still has all of the superbee paraphernalia on it, and its numbers matching, but all the laser stripes are missing. I wonder how one would go about putting them back on?
I thought all superbee's had 440 but I was wrong, It's the GTX's all have the 440 with the 6 packs. Nices wheels, esp. the color! If america wants to start selling cars they should trash all the crap they've been selling over the last 25 years and get their inspiration from these beauties. Then we could junk all those rice-burners who think they have wheels.
If I coulndt have my diesel truck I have muscle cars! Hey Wait why not both! Give the diesel a small towing work out? The diesel would still be fast tho. No not your dad old slow 6.2L either.
My grandfather bought an orange one like this one back in 71, and he was born in 1902. Folks thought he would kill himself, as he used to light the tires up!!! The car is now being restored :)
Sorry, I messed up when I said that, it was actually my grandfathers brother who owned the 71 Super Bee with a 383, it is orange. One of his grand sons is having the car restored, so hopefully it will be back on the road soon. Maybe we can set up a race between it and my son's 72 Charger with the new 440 in it :)
Yeah, folks around town swore he was gonna kill himself, since he WASN'T easy on the gas pedal!!! :) As far as I know, he never even got in an accident,

just so happens my neighbor owns an 08 challenger SRT8 and that thing sure is super charged.
and i never said that those engines could do a 10 second run stock. but considering the huge price difference between the 60s and 70s mopar compared to the new mopar products. you sure did get alot more bang for your buck.
The L71 427 was the highest rated engine at 435 gross horsepower according to Chevrolet in 1967. The L88 (only made 20 of them)was under rated at 430 as it was putting out closer to 500 but neither could break into the 12's as new SRT8's are, stock vs. stock, because of poor tire design and gearing. Very fast for their day, though. 383 powered Mopars are NOT fast, however, if stock. Making them loud doesn't make them fast. Funny how the cars of our youth get faster every year we get older!
Then howcome chebbie never won the daytona 500 back in the day if they were soo powerful? and have a bad habit of getting their asses handed to them on the drag strip then and now??
We had a L88 in a 67 camero ...it would pull wheels in 2 gear. That was fast , light and scared the hellout of everone. The only Mopar that came close was a 67 barracuda with a blowen 440 / 6pack . We built nice rods for the street and Woodward Ave. was the summertime place for us. 1966-74

monoxideguy1 2 years ago
that thing could probably run a 1/4 mile in under 10 seconds
the only huge difference between old MOPAR vs New MOPAR is that the SRT8 is supercharged
if you put a supercharger on that 383 then it would be pumping out around 100 horse power more than the Challenger SRT8 which is 450
and you have to remember horse power was measured differently when this MOPAR was in production
monoxideguy1 2 years ago
No SRT8 is supercharged, period. Check the Dodge website.
No 383/440/426 Hemi EVER ran a sub 10 second quarter mile in stock trim.
You have a vivid imagination!
2002regalgs 2 years ago
true ....
waystedkiss 2 years ago
Old school = slow. You'd be lucky to turn a high 14 second 1/4 mile. If you want to go fast buy a new SRT8.
2002regalgs 2 years ago
Really? Guess a '67 Corvettee with over 600 horsepower stock would be slow, huh
samhain6677 2 years ago
The L71 427 was the highest rated engine at 435 gross horsepower according to Chevrolet in 1967. The L88 (only made 20 of them)was under rated at 430 as it was putting out closer to 500 but neither could break into the 12's as new SRT8's are, stock vs. stock, because of poor tire design and gearing. Very fast for their day, though. 383 powered Mopars are NOT fast, however, if stock. Making them loud doesn't make them fast. Funny how the cars of our youth get faster every year we get older!
