@SeiberShadowKatt We have a full shop with a lathe, mill, drill press, saws, sandblaster, powdercoating station, polisher, dremels and other hand tools. In other words, a LOT of tools;)
That is one of the coolest and most beautiful lightsabers I've seen. Fantastic attention to detail; I prefer the simplicity of less lights too. Great job VV.
Out of curiosity, how do you find the polished alu & gold, and powdercoat black finish hold up over time? Would I expect the alu to rust, or the gold wear off?
@koyukionna Thanks for the complements, it was also my favorite. Aluminum doesn't rust, though it can oxidize and get dull and leave a black dust on your hands from handling if not polished. When we polish aluminum we do it to a mirror finish which is quite resistant to oxidization. Powder coating is basically a pulverized plastic coating that gets baked and "flowed" onto the part. So in other words it's like having a plastic shell around the part and should last for years.
How much do your ligthsabers start at? For basically the most basic, non-fancy hilt that DOES have sound (assuming the cheapest option sound card)? It would help lots of people to know like if you guys are an exclusively high end saber making company or if some of us less wealthy Star Wars fans can afford one of your sabers!
Our custom sabers with sound, internal recharge system with charger, blade and covertec wheel usually START at $450USD + shipping. Price goes up depending on design complexity and extra features chosen. You should contact us at sabersmith'@'vadersvault'.'com
So, if you forfeit sound, could a brighter saber be made? (IE; Something crazy, like a Seoul p7 or something of that nature?) Secondly, I've been exploring eBay for you guys and haven't found much of anything as far as custom sabers go. Do you still sell on eBay? I won't lie, I had a bit of a wall today in saber crafting, and I'm about to cut my losses and buy an LED saber from an experienced maker, instead of doing it myself. I'm kind of in a cave without a light. =)
The larger LEDs like the Seoul P7 have a larger footprint & the optics assemblies are large also, so you would have to have a really fat saber, at least in the emitter area. If you don't mind that, then no problem. Also, you have to really like white, as the P7 comes strictly in white. There are 15 W LEDEngins just coming out that are in different colors too. All of them take an extreme amount of voltage & throw a lot of heat so we would probably use a fan to diffuse some of the heat as well.
Wow... O_O So do you guys take commissions on Custom Saber creation? =D Because I don't have the resources or braincells to take on working with a 15W LEDEngin, but I'm looking at some stuff about it right now. Maybe you guys could do something like that...?
Thanks, we loved it too! Which is why you see me handling it with reverence:D It is also, because we build these for sale, and we want it to arrive to the customer in pristine condition. It is VERY sturdy, and if you didn't mind getting scratches and such on it, could duel to your hearts content. 10W is definately not the brightest LED, but is the brightest LED that can be put in sabers with sound currently. That, Im sure will change in the next year or so.
Yeah, you hear that occasionally depending I think on the scene. Unlike ILM, we don't get to edit our videos with rotoscoping greatness LOL! In the real, it is a fantastic shade of purple. Even if it shows up more "magenta" on video.
I like your lightsabers a lot, but I think you add too many accent leds. They make your sabers look like a Christmas tree. Plus, the lightsabers in the movies don't have any functional accent leds, so they aren't "screen accurate". You could use the space to install longer lasting batteries. If you used 18650 Li-Ion batteries, your sabers would last 2.5 hours, instead of only 1, which isn't much. It'd be less flashy, but more practical. Just an opinion. Everything else looks fantastic.
Umm dude....you are speaking to a master sabersmith. No reason to dog someone's work just because you don't like it and think you know better....enough said.
Thanks. I understand ALL about batteries and runtimes. These accent LEDs take 0 space up in a saber. They're 3mm LEDs and occupy space that is already taken by switches and charge ports. I NEVER make any claims to "screen accuracy" on my sabers. They're customs. I use accent LEDs, cause people like them, and the CF can pimp them. And I'm all about keeping the pimp hand strong.
how much are you selling them for?

What are the tools you have in your possession for these kind of things? It looks like a lot of machining went into that hilt.

My lord this is pretty... I've been looking at LED sabers for a while... Is the 10W currently the brightest in existance? Soo pretty....
Is this thing sturdy? You seem to be very careful. I can't imagine how Polycarbonate and lathed metals couldn't be sturdy, but I felt I should ask. =)

Will an UltraSound board drive tthe 10W purple?
nyarlethotep 2 years ago
It will, but you lose out on the clash flash, which is the best thing about the 10W RGBA LED.
