@darthirakli Flash only stole the video market because the other multiple competing codecs were such a nightmare. 'crappy' Flash killed crappy RealVideo (buffering, buffering), crappy WMV, and, to a lesser extent, crappy Quicktime. No more choosing between various formats with a radio button when you just want to watch a damn video
@darthirakli The real problem with web video - which Flash solved single-handedly by sticking its choice of codec in a plug-in with already high penetration - was the fragmentation that came from competing formats, due to competing patents and the companies that had licensing interests in them (see: millions of dollars to make in fees!). To that end, Microsoft and Apple, each with a large portfolio of patents, hamstringed the standards process and reinvented codec hell for the video tag.
Why should we build all this stuff into a browser? I think it's b/c people are lazy, stupid, or apathetic. Sometimes, for people to notice or use something, you have to shove it in their face. Is FF now the best at ANYTHING other than browsing? Of course not. Never will be. Is the GMail web client as functional as Evolution or Outlook? Not even close. Can the Video/Audio sent through it ever look/sound as good as individual clients. Probably not. You see where I'm going w/ this.
LOL, that's because the majority of sites on the web aren't currently coded in HTML 5....c'mon man, time to start researching and stop being a pc couch potato
LOL. My pc is mainly for benching and gaming. I can't even make a Word document o.0 Thanks for the heads up though. I leave coding to smart folks...and they leave the overclocking to us people at OCN.
Why the hell is this built in?!? I've chosen FF, because it had basic functionality expandable by extensions and plug-ins, so I could have fast yet basic browser, or pimped-up much slower one...
Why oh why is it built into a core? I'll stay with my older version - maybe when all of the add-ons will work with 3.5 I'll think again about moving, but for now I see more problems than advantages in a new version.
raw audio/video player is one thing, but embedding one video into another doesn't have a lot to do with web browsing, now does it? I'm afraid that ff will become some all-in-one application that'll allow you to browse the web, use cloud-computing, play multimedia files, edit outernet documents and so on...
i agree one of the problems with it is that IT CRASHES on me becouse its to fast cause its fast allready and that plust the added speed the did overloads it or some shit like that :( i cant use the lastest oh well the old one is ok
So I'm afraid I'll try to stay with my "non HTML 5" firefox as long as possible. I use web browser to browse the web, and prefer watching video using mplayer.
Someone may give me YouTube as an example, but it's an exception not a rule. I want my browser to be a fast and reliable tool, but the more features it includes, the bigger chance for security hole to be found.
The video tag is built in because we're now in the 21st century, where video (esp. interactive video) is now a major component of internet content. However, if you prefer to stay in the 20th century perhaps you might like Netscape Navigator 4.7!
You're right - it's 21st century, so why shouldn't we build fully functional media player into an browser (songbird just uses browser's engine). Why don't we get rid of any other application simply to do everything in a browser?
I know it'll come, but I hope to get as far from it as possible, for I would like my browser to be convenient, safe and efficient and not necessarily another all-in-one application...
...I think that KDE developers made great step forward deciding it won't be the default web and file browser (although I think that both functionalities are still available).
FF 3.5 wont let me watch this vid, but it works fine on IE "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player."
btw nice to see that most of the commenters actually uses something else than IE.. lol, now there is a battle between the REAL browsers, but that doesn't really matter, as long IE is out... :D
Firefox rules (by & large), but there have been many reports of bugs in 3.5. Some people have been OK but the word is that there are issues. Specially if you have certain add-ons (WOT, NoScript etc) it's really slow and you can't roll back to previous versions without losing your profile & bookmarks. 3.5.1 is due to come out soon, & today (7 July) is supposed to be "bugfix day" for 3.5. Anyone reading this had trouble with 3.5? I'm sticking with 3.0.11 until this gets sorted.
does this mean I'll be able to ctrl+tab to switch my tabs without clicking on the website to switch focus away from the video player?!?!?! that would be GREAT!!!!
Google Chrome isn't the fastest... Opera 10 Beta has absolutely ridiculous speeds. And it completely passes the Acid3 test. Although I know Firefox has a lot of features, I like Opera. But I won't try to change peoples minds about Firefox; if you love the browser, that's all that matters. Unless you love IE... Then your an idiot. Or Ballmer.
i really love firefox.. but i must say, since safari 4 was released, there's nothing that beats it. that browser is fast fast fast! and has an exquisitely intuitive and beautiful UI.
about "start private browser" we don't need that sales pitch,we can disable history browsing from the ABOUT:CONFIG ,there's no such thing as "private browser" your employer or service provider can track your arss down....
1. The, "Private browsing" mode is a simple toggle mode when it stops recording anything you do entirely, until you switch it off - which lets you search the history of everything you do again. Switching the history off/deleting it entirely isn't the same or as effective.
2. That's what Tor is for. Don't expect ANY browser to do anything similar.
its only bloated if you make it bloated. you can easily clear everything out that would make it slower. Its STILL better than IE, which isn't saying much, I know.
But I mean compared to a browser like opera, its way bloated.I cant even watch flash videos on some sites with firefox, but on opera they play fine.Just upgrading from firefox 2 to firefox 3 added so much slowness,so i'm guessing 3.5 will be even worse : /
Please keep all this bullshit to yourself, I want to browse the internet and I dont give a fuck if I can make videos in firefox, seriously whats the point of that? dont start to bring FF down
Yeah, that's what came across my mind while watching the video. Sucks. Although, the only useful thing I see regarding this whole interactive video thing is the background color changing depending on the ambient lighting on this video - that would definitely be cool. Aside from that, though - blah. I love Firefox and think they should work on other issues.
That's all cool and fun and games and all, but when it comes down to it, I do not believe it will be utilized at all. Browser-specific gadgets usually does not go well with developers whose primary concern it compatibility. FireFox is still a relatively small browser, user wise.
Requiring Javascript for HTML5 video seems a little counter intuitive. That's like requiring Javascript to display an image, no? HTML5 should control video natively, not require site-specific javascript code to execute.
First of all Java is not Javascript. Get your facts straight. Second of all, Javascript is completely different from Actionscript. Javascript is easier to edit, change, and disable at will while Actionscript is only editable by the original creator of the Flash animation. Also, comparing Javascript to Actionscript is like comparing C++ to HTML
You could download any version of Linux, Opensolaris, FreeBSD or bay a mac if you are not happy with Windows as these are much more productive platforms as long as you are not to interested in games though Mac OS has a rather large casual gaming catalogue such as The Sims 3, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Spore, World of Warcraft, and Call of Duty 4.
Mac OS is noticeably more productive. You can admin your linux and unix servers right out of the terminal and it is unix certified.
Memory management and the use of multiple application and desktops is very seamless and fast in OS X and for the work flow i use of well over 20 open apps and at lest 30 windows in a average session it is just not possible in Windows XP/Vista to manage those but i agree is is much more manageable on Windows 7 than the predecessors.
it actually IS possible. with a high end PC. High end PCs aren't at all as expensive as Mac. For a PC of equal value of a Mac you get more bang for ur buck. As for the OS (XP/Vista). There ARE lots of tweaks u can do to the OS and GUI to make it more productive. With 7, theres no need. It's already being said thats a better OS than OSX. OSX is good even better than vista. but 7 is better overall.

Sorry but Windows 7 in its current beta still can't handle opening more than 30 applications and having a good many of them doing some heavy computation. And with Snow Leopard there just is no competition when it comes to multi tasking.
Not to mention there just arn't the applications out there for Windows that are there for Mac OS, some of the best tools like CSS Edit and Coda are Mac OS only. And incase you didn't know Windows 7 is just Vista with a better refined and faster GUI.
sorry but that is a very ignorant comment. Win7 maybe in beta (build 7000 RC2) but it has about a year left til it's scheduled release date, and seeing how the beta is working out very well, theres a high chance it will be a great improvement. also the Gui isn't the only thing improved. It has better driver handling, improved multi-core performance, kernel improvements, etc. It's not just a new pretty face for vista. it's practically a new OS.
Snow Leopard is also in beta and is a heavily reworked Mac OS foundation release that has technologies built in to make every application easily multithreaded and capable of using the GPU.
The better driver handling as to put it is down to better written drivers, since it runs Vista drivers there is no fundamental change to the architecture there. The speed improvements are down to a rewrite of the GUI and how windows are delt with. Improved multi-core, kernel, ect are clean ups so far.
So happy that someone on youtube believes i am not a programmer. If only it was so dreadfully simple yet heres the thing laddy whether one is a programmer or not the facts are easy to observe and the documentation is not locked away you can easily see the analysis of the new operating systems and speak to fellow developers about what each is bringing to the table.
However when the evidence stacks in favor of one over another there will always be die hards on each side to refute the facts.
Also i have to point out that no complex terminology has been used in any comments here and most likely this is a deliberate effort by the others here and myself in order to make sure the points are clear and concise.
vista doesn't suck, in fact it is the most advanced OS to date, people don't know what they are talking about and most people cannot distinguish between their hardware and OS and think that windows is the problem when they just have a shitty PC
that is true, but vista DOES have many problems -- that's why Windows 7 is coming out so soon. The space between XP->Vista is WAY longer than Vista->7
I love firefox...... i have it on my mac and my PC as the default browser. Safari 4 sucks, IE has too many vulnerabilities and chrome just not for me.
I'm excited!!!

Jerrycosyweegirl 2 years ago
no actually...its releasing very soon, like october

Htrwhtrw 2 years ago
I meant Xp 64 bit
anyways Xp(only 32bit) was out in 2001
and vista in Nov 06 ~ Early 07
and seven will be out by 22 Oct 09
So Xp Had a long period but if u include both versions (32bit and 64bit) then it had same as vista~seven
Divjot04 2 years ago
ha, Why don't you put the SP too, then the updates, the period would be smaller.
Fact, you were wrong, say it

jerelp57 2 years ago
Why does everyone think vista sucks? Can sum1 explain to me what's wrong with it? I'm using it now and i never have problems.
TheArseface 2 years ago 3
vista doesn't suck, in fact it is the most advanced OS to date, people don't know what they are talking about and most people cannot distinguish between their hardware and OS and think that windows is the problem when they just have a shitty PC
Zepplinne 2 years ago
that is true, but vista DOES have many problems -- that's why Windows 7 is coming out so soon. The space between XP->Vista is WAY longer than Vista->7
Dragonarok 2 years ago 3
oh yeah for sure, I like to think of 7 as the "completed" version of Vista, I'm looking forward to testing it out as soon as aI get my new rig
Zepplinne 2 years ago
Xp > 2003
Vista > 2006
Seven > 2009
All have three year gap .......
Vista = Best OS for Fast Pcs (Multi Cores , 2gb ram or above)
Seven = Vista for slower PCs (1gb ram or even 512mb , single core)
Divjot04 2 years ago
Wrong!!!
Windows XP was released on 25 October 2001, not in 2003
Wrong, wrong, wrong!!
Source: wikipedia, what is yout source?

HOLY SHIT you used Wikipedia! Wikipedia is definitely NOT user upheld and always has CORRECT INFORMATION!
BUT HOLY SHIT! you corrected someone who was wrong in such a way that it made even ME SCARED!
HOLY SHIT YOUT SUCH A HARDASS, I'M SURE THE CHICKS LOVE YOU.

cbolsp 2 years ago
IE sucks, its only "gotten better" since they ripped off all the open source browsers. And the interface on IE 8 is a joke.
