Saw this show in quadrifonic sound (4 speakers) in Denver.Speakers at the back of the aud. were almost as big as the ones on stage. Unbelievable sound. Record producer Eddy Offord was at the mixing board for this tour. The stage set designed by Roger Dean made for a mind blowing experance. This is an album that has to be listened to many times to truly understand.
Wakeman is such an idiot. This is some of the most inventive and awesome work that Yes ever did. Tales, and Relayer are 2 of Yes' best albums for shear creativity. I cannot understand why he didn't like them.
@jkovert Seems to me, bewildering the audience would be a good thing. If you write this kinda music, especially given the times, chances are you are going to blow some folks minds. How is this any different from the shows and music he wrote and performed in his solo acts with Journey to the Center of the Earth, and the "On Ice" shows he did? He has been quoted as saying, that when he rejoined for GFTO, this is where Yes shoulda went after CttE. I guess he preferred the more commercial stuff
this song, sound chaser and machine massiah - favourite yes tracks....and its a pity patrick moraz didn't do another album with them - he had a totally different keyboard sound.
LOL "Dude stop thumping on your guitar!!!" Or is it an electric lute? I've seen a picture from the Tales tour with Howe playing a rather odd looking instrument. This was always my favorite side from the album as a young Crimson-oriented fan and does sort of sound like a response to "Larks Tongues". Live take here is fantastic as the others, thanks for sharing them all. Subtitle should be "Rick Wakeman Shows How You Play A Mellotron For Real".
Great! I wondered if the whole track was ever played live. This is probably the strangest song ever with musical merit. I think it works overall the best on Topographic Oceans. Back in the day people thought I was nuts listening to this. Elton John was more popular I guess then.
Yes, in 1974 they toured America playing the whole four songs from topographic oceans, the whole album of close to the edge, and finished with sweet dreans and then Starship trooper. It was a wonderful show to watch, and listen to, I know Yes did change things up a few dates because of internal issues. But to hear it again live is so fun. Thanks for posting this, and it brought back such great memories!
I was at this show which i think is in MSG in 74, Went with buddy and had a head full of Zodiac Blotter. Got lost on the subway on the way out and missed the last train. LOL> Great show, Great memory, thank you so much.
What an outstanding performance. Chris Squire and Alan White are particularly on fire here! Shame about them aging because the rhythm section was to die for back then.
it sounds like part of the song was lost... the seque section "So the flowering creativity of life wove its web face to face" is lost and we abruptly hear a fade in of "And their gods sought out and conquered" around 13:15.
This was the concert promoting this album, so all 4 songs were played. In later concerts, usually "The Ritual" would only get played due to the time allowed for the rest of their repertoire. 3 hours is not enough time to get to hear everything.
The only songs off 'Topographic Oceans' I've ever heard live versions of prior to this were 'The Revealing Science of God' and 'Ritual'. Nice to hear! Now the only one I have to find a live version of is 'The Remembering'. You wouldn't happen to have that, would you? :)

@tranceofdances He did't like TFTO, especially during the tour, because the audiences were bewildered by it.

@sqTake2 considering how much Wakeman reportedly hated Tales, it is nice to hear him be engaged and play so well here.

Damn, they were creative and ambitious. It's sad to see what they've become. It's time to pull the plug.
