I wrapped it in loads of blankets, and waited until it turned itself off using it's emergency-shutdown when it gets too hot. You should have a fire extinguisher just in case :p After that, it worked like a charm. 3 rings seems to be more like a temperature sensor bog, rather than a problem with the heating.
