In the short term it leads to anxiety (stress), paranoia, and restlessness. In addition to that he missed out on the 1994 World Cup due to failing an ephedrine test. Exactly, as you said defenders back then were brutal, reckless and had no idea how to tackle. I mean every player in the 70s and 80s, who was not a star, had a shop where he worked during the week.
Today any given player is twice as fast as Maradona and way way way more trained to tackle. Trust me, Maradona today would be on his ass more often than not.

Well I don't agree with your point...but it's fine. In fact I am pretty sure you never played seriously and that is why it's hard for you to understand my point. Maradona was a good player and there is no way to deny it...but today he would never be able to do the same things because the soccer level is insane.
People have this habit to think that because something happened in the past it's better. Ronaldo, Torres, Messi, Rosina...these players would kill it 30 years ago.

@EmiTheLawyer I disagree with you....if any thing Maradona will be able to do more if he is in todays soccer world and to prove my point, look at Messi and his accomplishments and even though messi has a very close style of play like maradona's, he is still not on maradona's level but he is getting there fast. MARADONA IS A TIMELESS LEGEND and we cant say he wont be as good if he played now

@fhaddad3 Defenders like Stevens and Anderson would work at their stores during the week and play soccer games on Sundays...do you think Lucio or Puyol or Samuel do that? Today soccer has gotten incredibly competitive and super professional. It's not possible for 1 player to make the difference, like it was maybe 20-30 years ago. That is why Maradona was such a great player and was able to make a difference...however today I don't think he could do that.

@EmiTheLawyer well i can agree and disagree, messi is playing in a much weaker league spanish elague then when amradona played, and he played in the golden era of the italian league, right know i think the best and toughest league of all time is the repmier league. messi would play great back then, and plays fine right know.

@EmiTheLawyer 80sand 90s era had best defenders and maradona played during there was no ref protection, he played with injuries and succeeded both clubs and national team which were both average teams during those times.
