There was only one groundbreaking record before that (actually it was a 3 record set) put out by Folkways in 1950 called "The Anthology of American Folk Music". Read "Invisible Republic". This record was considered "communistic" but had a number of notables on it. Dylan and all the early "folkies" studied it and its performers like the Rosetta Stone.
