The "historical Self Importance" of contemporary art has removed it from anything . One has to go back to the Cave Painters or the Pyramid builders of MesoAmerica and Egypt to "remember" the purpose of great art. That purpose was to move the Viewer into a "different and Unknown World". Prince is just rehashing the "known world". This is not great Art. This will not Last, or pass the Test of Time.
Heavy elitist crap these "carhoods" and scribings: no feeling, nothing touches you, pompous masturbation (selfpleasing, selfcellebration). You can see Bladerunner or Casablanca and some specks there have such a timeless poetry they send chills through your whole being, while this crap sends chills of disgust with its clinical sterillity and blind compliance to mainstream "trend".
@8RR8R8 It is amazing how some people get rich producing junk art. What's more amazing is the people who talk up this stuff as though it is something absolutely wonderful. There are some great artist out there but many of them never become known.
Big thumbs down to the Serpentine Gallery for doing this private show (all the work was for sale by Richard). Of special note, Richard did not paint the "Million Dollar Nurse" painting. All of the pieces that are executed that way are original paintings (of the original covers done by the original cover artists...usually picked up on E-bay for $2000-$3000) that he paints over. That's not "painting" them...

Richard Prince is OK as an artist. But, yes, most of art is utterly tripe, useless rubbish with only the slightest of an idea to it.
Love the Car, great idea + great execution = kick-ass-car!.
