i did notice the genz benz (newer one) to be quite thin sounding compared to the markbass stuff. ive just heard that the markbass cabs are cheaply made. and if i were to get a genz benz head, it would be the 9.0 for me personally. have you tried genz benz cabs? i heard there decent, but bergantino is like the standard of high quality cabs. and what about tc electronic? im trying all this stuff out friday in nyc. ill let you know how things go cuz id rather find the right gear the first time.
@rickenbacker95 I have never heard or seen better cabs than Bergantinos.. not kidding. I am not sure about Markbass cabs.. never have heard them. I would certainly say Bergs are better based on the reviews. I have a genz cab, yes, with my shuttle.. it's.. ok.. I have a Shuttle 6.0 12T.. the cab is not good.. but it is old. The Neo Cabs from Genz get rave reviews.. they cannot be bad. TC Electronics.. I only know what I have read about them. If you're wanting to buy right the first time...
@rickenbacker95 .. my markbass blows the GB out of the water.. completely.. the genz is nice, but the power is not there... don't be fooled by ratings.. mine's an older genz.. but it's quite thin-sounding.
@rickenbacker95 I have a Genz cab.. it's ok..I cannot speak to MArkbass cabs.. my LMII is amazing.. but that's an amp..lol.. as far as the dream combo.. mine has been the LMII+Berg cabs.. but.. the genz head is amazing also. I have never heard a better sound cab combination than Bergantino or Epifani... I am sure Genz's new cabs are great. TC Electronics is reputable.. good reviews. Never have seen anyone using them.. you should, if not already, go on talkbass.com and ask.. good luck. let me kno
Thanks for posting this, my drummer just sent me a text asking me to learn this song, I am familiar with it enough but thanks...I'll be ready to rock it out
ah, i love this song too! i have a fender jazz bass at home, and even though i don't take lessons, i figured out the bass to this sweet song and i'm playing it every day!
i'll have to film me play it and post it as a video response.
Thanks Blah. You have some great video clips. I stumbled upon them as I am new to Bass and stuck between whether to learn fingerstyle or with a plectrum.
I like Rock/Indie/Punk and had assumed you had to use a pick but obviously not.
Most bassists I am chatting with say the same thing. Can I ask you a quick question? Do you just rest your thumb above the E string when playing E and then rest your thumb on the e when playing other strings?
Or do you say rest your thumb on the A string when playing the D string?
I rest my thumb on the pickups, subconsciously, when playing the E.. and with other strings, yes, I rest on the E.. Sometimes, I guess I rest on A also.. but really, for me, it's a way of muting the other strings also.. so, I do two things by "resting" the thumb.. rest and then muting.. muting is a serious thing players need to learn over time.. .. it just naturally happened--then some guy in a band/club pointed out I was muting everything in a clean way--I had no idea.. numerous years ago.
Billy Sheehan is a great player.. you should watch or buy his videos.. he continually talks about the need to anchor your thumb.. especially live.. and with the same strap length--there is simply no reason to run scales up and down when seated.. and then find your position changing when standing up.. then you lose it and wonder why.. I have, like Sheehan, watched bassists struggle onstage due to this. Playing lightly won't work, at least in a band.
I am taking online courses and he advises us to rest on the pickup, E or A string. I find this really slows me down though. I will check out Sheehan as well.
There is no "right" way but your own.. but I also have opinions.. you have to anchor on something. Bass is an instrument of strength.. it has to be played with dexterity most of the time.. When you check out Sheehan.. you will see he is the product of 100s of thousands of hours of live playing.. I respect other player like Michael Manring, Gary Peacock, Victor Wooten, Geddy, Les Claypool, Simon Gallup.. but Sheehan has good advice.

it is simply a good song. I know a few other Cheap Trick songs, and might post them.. they are a great band.

dude, you're not wrong there. cheap trick FTW!
please upload them, that would be awesome!

stay on the b dont go to the a in the verses(like how you stay on the Bb in the intro)
same at the end when they go to c(live version)
Dorothysmelting 3 years ago
You're correct.. he stays on the A.. in a band I am in, or played with only twice, we did the A.. it's a bad habit I will break.

You are a great inspiration to newbies like me. Good to see what can be done with the bass! Thanks.

If you want a biased opinion.. finger style is the way to go..
