God, I had forgotten this song !

And this performance in particular shows something Midler can do SO brilliantly and (seemingly) effortlessly but which other performers seldom if ever dare even to try: she takes her audience from laughing hysterically right into a tearful, soulful ballad SO FAST ... then brings 'em back with another joke just as fast ... and never, ever once does she lose anybody along the way.

Wonderful! I saw this concert live in Boston, right after her attack of appendicitis. That's why she started the show in a hospital bed, the Harlettes dressed as nurses. I venture to say that the bit of stage business with the bedpan was what started people falling into the aisles with

I think I was in 10th grade when I bought this cassette (back before CDs were popular)...And this song touched me deeply. Such a power ballad, it makes me wonder why they said she was ugly, or an ugly duckling, I always thought that she was the most beautiful woman that God ever created.
