I'd say considering the equal numbers and both using elementary tactics that this was an okay battle. Although I do not myself practice camping I think that it is a tactic just like any other and a good opponent could draw his opponent out by maneuvering. Alright battle.

This guy is using a tactic, it just so simple (but effective) that you guys dont notice it. He uses a defensive tactic with hes infintry facing outward and cannons inside. He then uses his calverlry to either flank the enemie (spelling) or reneforce his infintry line.

You can do a World war one total war though.

on campaign map instead of forts you build trenches, and the units are really close to those of empire total war, except a little bit more modern. cavalry still exists as well as early tanks, nice artillery pieces.. imagine a battle like total war does it, but thousands of mens charging with their bayonets at a trench with artillery falling everywhere.. would be great I think.

I have to agree, hoping for a WWI or II game would be wishfull thinking.

On the other hand, I DO think that an American Civil War or Crimean/Zulu Era game is a very good possibility. Id love to see a grand campaign mode that would allow ppl to change the outcome of the Rebel Confederacy. Not to mention the gameplay would STILL be Napoleonic only a bit more modernized with new technologies.

i like how detailed the movements of the units are. the horses actually turn and pick targets rather than just attacking the one right in front of them. if they where really clever, they would give the horse riders a chance of surviving from falling off their horse and fighting on foot. in rome total war the riders die when they fall off the horse.

Trying playing it with that attitude you'll get owned quick. It's very possible to lose the bulk of your forces very quickly, within less than a minute, if you're uneducated or arrogant in the heat of battle.

And unless you're on the defensive, you have to move all of those squads of units individually when you're on the offensive.

take all of the horse units and drive them at their center and rip them through the line until you reach the horse cannon then run away if you can. Then move your infantry up to the center to get a better fire range on them and then take the skirmishers and flank their weakest side.

Yoeeb, you should really try manouvering your troops more, I didn't see you move a single unit in that whole battle. All you did was wait until your enemy came in range and just sat and watched. The most you did was charge the enemy, your troops stayed in the same formation they were in right from the start. If everyone did that the whole game would just be on artillery, which nobody would find fun. I'm not even gonna get started on the HEAVILY upgraded mortars that you used...

I would say no... the Total War series always exaggerates things a bit. Not as badly as Rome, but it's still there. Have you played rome Total War, where a cavalary charge can fling units like 15 feet into the air? Not entirely realistic, but definitely more satisfying to watch... I prefer it this way.

Empire Total War is a bit more realistic overall, however.
