When you point a spectrometer to, say a nebula, you will find that certain bands of color are missing and since each element absorbs a different color, you just need to check which element the missing lines belong to. @BassDestruction1 In a nutshell, different elements absorb different bands of light. When you point a spectrometer to, say a nebula, you will find that certain bands of color are missing and since each element absorbs a different color, you just need to check which element the missing lines belong to. Of course, ethyl alcohol is not an element but spectroscopy can be extrapolated for compounds as well. I do suggest you research this yourself, my YT explanation is hella' short. Cheers!

Much like my all-time favorite bogus fudgefactor of Alan Guth's ``Theory of Expansion``.

Putting his fingers in his ears and yelling "la la la, I can't hear you" doesn't make him right. His hypothesis was interesting in the '60s, but it's nothing more than vapor now; local "intrinsic redshift" objects are a bust. An inflationary big bang and expansion are the best fit for the data available.
