  • makes me laugh too much how the Simpsons spoofed it with the blood on the wrong floor' and the bagpipe pinups to commemorate the movie ☺

  • You can watch The Shining Code where this scene is addressed in a scene called The Rug, The Sweater, Room 237 and Their Codes.

  • The music in The Shining really helps with the creepy factor. Without a doubt one of the best movies ever made.

  • 0:08 the cameraman is on one of those things as well

  • I love the sound of the tricycle.

  • My house number is 237.....fuck

  • Take a look at the Room 237 scene in "The Shining Code", a 1 hr. documentary which reveals more than 50 codes in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.

  • The reason the room number is different to the book the hotel was having renovations or something they wanted to use 217 but for some reason they couldnt

  • lol a few days ago i stayed in ahotel, room 217. i was completly paranoic

  • Bring back the standing ashtrays too.

  • Like 666 FUCK YEAH!

  • Stewie griffin dies a better version xD

  • That room 237,scares me

  • That is really unnerving. The angle they used to follow the tricicle. It's a great effect because the hallways seem to tower and enpower the viewer from a vantage point of a child. Good cinematography and a chilling score too at that.

  • @SuperVideo50 The first-ever use of Steadicam.

  • @iwantoldschool Steadicams had been around for about 3 years at this point. Go watch Bound for Glory, Marathon Man, and Rocky sometime.

  • @iwantoldschool This was not the first use of steadicam. It was the first time it was used significantly in a major motion picture.

  • Everytime I see this I think of Stewie. Lol

  • he tricycles quicker than i can cycle...

  • The design on the carpet is a type of virus.

  • um...scary?

  • lol stuewie

  • That little boy is shooo cute <3

  • i'm gonna get em, Vladi. You must be joking. You should have heard my fantasy, daddy.

  • Kubrick really was a mastermind at disturbing pieces, many examples in "The Shining" Boy, they really knew how to make horror films in the old days.

  • I cant open my eyes

  • Guys stop talking about how Kubrick's adaptation is crap because it isn't loyal enough to the book.

Sure, movies should be loyal, but covers should make the project theirs, not just try to copy the original work. Then it's nothing new.

  • @MinamuTV you 're right and on top of that, the rest S.K. novels that have been adapted for the screen were all a lot shittier..Kubrick was a MASTER, a real master indeed!

  • @yourproblemchild Yes, Kubrick's my favorite director. His level of genius is mind-blowing and amazing. Influenced cinema probably like no other director and never made a bad film.

  • when he was rolling toward the stairs, the words "Challenge Accepted" went in my head

  • yes its a very clever movie

  • I'm the process of reading the book on my iPad and I want to see this movie so bad! Jees, Stephen king is a genius!

  • Oh god, I saw the movie a long time ago and just read the book, I am so mad, the movie is nothing like the book, I mean seriously? IT'S ROOM 217 NOT 237

  • @MsBreeAZ Stanley Kubrick changed it from room 217 to 237 because the hotel manager requested it. He feared that his customers would never want to stay in that room again after they see the movie so Kubrick was nice enough to change it to 237 a room number that doesnt really exist in the hotel.

  • @cynvid49 YAY fun facts. Thank you

  • @cynvid49

That seems so silly. I would WANT to stay in that room.

  • @JWFernel haha same! And just show off saying i stayed there to everyone i know :D

  • @Nutplucker If you've read the book, who should now you're talking crap.

Basing on your first comment, i don't believe you've read it anyway.

Either that, or you're desperate for attention.

It didn't annoy me the first time, but that comment is everywhere,

and is so clearly wanting to impress people with rubbish -

So i commented back, it's clearly what you wanted anyway...

  • @Nutplucker Me stop acting dumb?

You've written this same comment on loads of videos, and you've just proved you havent even read the book. Thats just embarassing xD

'Ooh, notice the double doors, the double doors!....'

    Ha! What an idiot.

Working your little brain with all that complicated maths as well, WELL DONE YOU! :)

Until you read the book, you know hardly anything about the characters.

So yeah, nice try at sounding intelligent anyway... :)

  • @Nutplucker Stop acting like you know so much...

The room in the original book (which btw is infinitely better than this film) isn't even 237. So if your suggesting the writer for this movie knows more about the characters then Stephen King, then you know considerably less then you think you do.

  • holy shit!

  • This tricycle riding is the scariest for me because I don't know where the danger will come from. Every turn gives me chills! I'm expecting the twins but that happens later. Expecting something to come out of the doors, but kept the audience hanging until one night Danny went for another ride and sees the twins. Scared as fuck.

  • @JohnnyPSalinda Yeah, definitely right about that. I wish other horror directors today would actually make scary stuff and not just depend on bloody special effects to make fake horror films. Seems like Kubrick and Hitchcock were the only directors who could actually make something grotesque and disturbing, but beautiful at the same time.

  • I want that carpet!! Its just so nice n retro.

  • This movie had me so messed up as a kid.

  • Beautiful hotel... It remind me of "The Ahwahnee" in Yosemite National Park...

  • check my funny audio remix of this

  • i would love to ride my bike thru a hotel like that (minus the dead ppl)

  • btw the way the music is from composer bela bartok, and the piece is called "music for strings"

  • the thing i love the most is that room 237 looks exactly like all the other rooms from the inside and out. most directors would have made it stick out like a sorethumb - the room at the end of the hall, with an old broken door so unlike the others, etc, but kubrick knew it's more sick and twisted to make it seem inconspicuous.

  • der aint nuttin in room 237 so you just stay out danny

  • Has anyone else read the book 'Thirteen Volume One'?

I love horror but it scared the f^&king crap out of me.

  • @Nutplucker youre trying too hard

  • If I ever open a hotel, I'm using that very same hallway look.

  • @XDaedricShadowX nvm lmao

  • EPIC MOOVIE!!!!!!!!

  • WOOOW OK WHO DA FUCK REMEMBERS ROCKOS MODERN LIFE WITH HEFFER HE WAS RIDING THE LIL BIKE AROUND SOME HOTEL WTF??? HAHAHA I GOT SUCH GOOD MEMORY I SWEAR FUKN CARTOONS WERE SUBLIMINAL MSGS U KNOW? WOW WUT A TRIP LOOK IT UP U WILL SEE HEFFER LMAOO AND THERES ANOTHER ONE TOO WITH THE TWO GIRLS?!? ALSO THERES A EPISODE ON THAT ASWELL TRIP OUT!

  • @CaLiKuShSmOkEr420 are you black?

  • @jerzy862 fuuuuuuuuckkkk no

  • i remember I soooooooooo wanted one of this bike when I was a kid..... but we didnt have that in Hong kong.... booooooooo

  • @govyiu cool story bro

  • @Nutplucker dang kubrick really was crazy was details :P

  • The music is so creepy

  • The depth of the walls as seen at :05 and :30 (screen right) is not sufficient to contain entire hotel rooms. Spatial anomalies!

  • @Vortigern99 did you come up with that info by examining this scene ?, or did you need to compare this scene with other scenes of the hotel?-- i heard this kind of info on someone else's video, where they showed a diagram of the hotel based on several scenes, and it showed these inconsistencies. i guess some people deliberately look for inconsistencies.

  • fuck those twins... creeped me out!!

  • Stephen king is messed up.

  • is this based on a true story???? it better not.

  • what the hell was that of the twins?

  • epic of all time ..

  • This boy hasn't acted ever since.. I checked his wikipedia. He's a teacher now.

  • @LastChanceHere He taught at my school.

  • The 80's interior decoration scare me the most. I don't know why it always gives me the creeps.

  • @ragnarok1326 me too

  • Diese Teppiche örgs.... ich habs nicht 1 mal geschafft den von vorne bis hinen zu sehen.. immer bin ich eingeschlafen........

  • Hey thats damien!!! Oooohhhh!

  • @goofywilly yea, it reminds me of the scene where damien is on a tricycle, and crashes into his mum, thereby causing her to fall from the ledge onto the floor.

  • three cycling, like a boss!

  • House in the first toy story

  • The carpet is the same as the rug in sids

  • new movies ain't got shit on this!!!! True classic. Scared the shit out of me when i was younger and still does.

  • The hotel, isnt even very big, :] its also extremely nice. But it is infact haunted in room 407 or 417

    Also the ballroom

  • @peanutbuttertiger The hotel with the haunted 4th floor and room 217 us the stanley hotel in estes park colorado, This is not the same hotel as the one where king wrote the book, the one used in the series is the original hotel. The movie hotel in somewhere in Oregon.

  • The hotel, isnt even very big, :] its also extremely nice. But it is infact haunted in room 407 or 417

  • 217 sounds better than 237

  • About 75% of this movie is the kid riding round the hotel on his tricycle :)

  • @DungeonDestroyers so wrong...

  • When I saw this I went all: " holy shit its like bobby's world!" haha

  • Comment removed

  • the scariest fucking movie i ever saw in my life.

  • I cannot for the life of me stop thinking "suspiria" when I watch this movie!!

It has to be the colours, symmetry in the scenes, odd music crashing into spookiness. I love scary movies that don't need buckets of blood and naked characters left and right, the bizarreness and colours just pull me right through the screen. Stanley Kubrick-one of the greatest directors ever, next to Scorsese of course.

  • what happened in room 237?

  • @JamieP994 If I am not mistaken a past caretaker of the hotel went crazy and killed his family and that is the room they stayed in.

  • @FonyTony123 thanks

  • is that hotel really exist??

  • @cliu588155

Yeah, it's the timberlane lodge in Colorado, they're still open; rumors have it that it really is haunted

  • @cliu588155 Not anymore. Used to. Check out the trivia on IMDB for more information.

  • their dad should of waited 6 more months b4 chopping them up w/ an axe

  • i've been in similar situations

  • hes such a good driver, that kid

  • It's the tricycle riding that freaks me out.

  • Those little girls need to go on Weight Watchers

  • Great scene from great movie! i this scene always gave me the creeps!

  • They see me rollin´ they hatin´

  • I never understood why they changed little things in movies like 217 to 237. whats the purpose?

  • @rhettbutler96 Movie was filmed in real hotel and owner of the place feared that visitors wouldnt sleep in a room 217 if its in a film. So they changed it to 237 which didnt excist in the real hotel. So it was little bit forced change to the movie.. With really good reason. I wouldnt sleep in that room after this, would you?

  • @rhettbutler96 yeah they also changed Wendy's hair color ( she was blonde in the book) and I never get the ``Here's jhonny ;D ´´ part if the guy is supossed to be named JACK not Jhonny.. hmm

  • @KxK96 'Here's Johnny' is a well know quote of a popular television-show at that time. It was improvised by Nicholson himself and Kubrick found it good sounding in the movie and let it in..

  • @r8448 uh, yeah that would be Johnny Carson dude.

  • LOL god this is lame! Aint it meant to be room 217?

  • @ChicoDelRio What?

  • the music scared me and i had to turn the sound off

  • One of the best of Kubricks masterpieces, the only one thats better is A Clockwork Orange.

  • OH SHIT TUSDAY.

  • I would be out that bitch like a pume.....ain't nothing faster than a pume.

  • i would love to drive my new pocket bike in that house its so mega big

  • @MrNordex ur stewie?

  • C (what) 2 CONTINUE?

  • I should mention the bath tub scene which isn't in this clip...

  • Room 237 is the most visual, heart pounding, scene ever in a Horror movie..(King scared himself writing this scene)...."Brilliant!"

  • @JM13121 my neighbor lives in room 237

  • I love that crazy carpeting in the hallway. the 70's were so weird style wise.

  • HOLY FUCKING SHIT WHEN THE TWINS CAME OUTTA NOWHERE I WAS LIKE JEZUUUUUUUUUZ!!!!

  • At 0:38 he stops way past the the door of 237 but in the next shot he is only like a foot to the side of it.

  • @XinKotetsu True dat.

  • Maeckes 237

  • 0:00-0:43 is so scary.

And nothing even happens! Just the music and him pedalling around.

  • I wet my trousers

  • It's amazing how you can shove two little twin girls into a movie and it automatically becomes scary!

  • In the book, wasn't the room number 217?

  • @Nhl9493 Yeaah that's what I was thinking? Not sure why they changed it... =/

  • @EmmziePyatt27

Because the hotel owners feared that people who saw the movie wouldn't want to sleep in Room 217. 237 never existed in the hotel.

  • @IAmAPSGamer I sense sarcasm...hmmmmm....

  • @DEVILthelost Room 237 is the scary room where the previous undertaker of the hotel murdered his family I think...

  • Whats with that room 237? I never saw the movie only the ending i saw.

  • Hate 2 stay in THAT room uuuugh *shudders*

  • holy fucking clip i was ready to scream if someone touched me on the shoulder

  • I absolutely love that shot that follows the little boy on his trike and then later the quick cut to the twins and the music. Kubrick creates such an unnerving mood! It's just brilliant and unforgettable! This movie always sticks with me!

  • @BlackRaven156 Ha unfortunately it sticks with me too in the dead of night when it's ALL I can think about... SO it's a good horror

    :-)

  • Devastating proof that the landing was shot in a studio on Earth! I just watched Kubrick's Odyssey: Secrets hidden in the films of Stanley Kubrick, and it exposes Kubrick's "deal with devil" in illumnating detail, along with his methods and intentions of telling the story of necessary secrets. This film was just released and is available at sacredmysteries . com

  • 2+3x7=2fucking3

  • if only family guy did this in the "three kings"episode.

  • in SAW series they got that toy on a tricycle from this movie)))

  • Is it just me, or does Danny look like Chucky in the beginning when he's riding his tricycle?

  • @megatimster Lol 100% True, damn chucky doll :@

  • this was filmed in a real hotel not a set and i would think that it would put the hotel out of buisnes!!!

  • @lovelilylove11 According to wikipedia, this was not filmed in a real hotel, but the interior shots were based on the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park. Apparently in the book the room is not number 237, but 217, and the people at Ahwahnee asked that the number be changed so that people would not avoid the real Room 217!

  • while watching this i was like yeah ride that trike kid where ya goin then i was like yeah.. theres room 237 just keep tricin... no dont get off... dont walk up o the door and stare at it... dont reach out to open it!!!!... oh thank god it's locked... omg creepy twins! hurry trike away!

  • God that carpet is creepy...

  • Oh no, not Tuesday!

  • how comes he could see the twins for a moment does he have the power of foreight?

  • greatest horror movie ever created

  • what the balls!? in the book its room 217

  • @MrPoaff The hotel where they filmed feared that no-one would want to check into Room 217 after this film was released, so they set in a nonexistant room - 237.

  • mario kart hahahaha lol

  • that kid must have GPS or something.... i'd get lost walking to the fucking toilet in that place.

  • @thunderthumbs83 lol dude great fuking joke...lol

  • @thunderthumbs83 Ye, it's that new TomTom for sproglings

  • @thunderthumbs83 I'd be riding along all happily, then after 2 minutes "ughh where am I."

  • Mario Kart :)

  • Nice wheels.

  • Actually filmed in a said to be haunted Hotel.

  • in the book scatman saved them

  • i swear this reminds me of something oh yeah MARIOKART he is even wearing mario colors lol

  • @senioryangvang Wendy and Danny both wear red white and blue for the first hour or so of the movie.

  • IAre there different movies from the book?

  • In the book its 217

  • omg in the book i pictured the mom as a brunet or blonde

  • @emjhubbard In the novel, Wendy is said to be blonde.

  • I want his bigweel D:
