  • why the hell are they in the rock n roll hall of shame. This is bs

  • le studio - the best studio of the world

  • I'm not a Rush fan, but c'mon, how can someone NOT like this song? It's fucking bad-ass.

  • ooooaaaahhhhh .... I'm blown away !

  • New LE STUDIO YOUTUBE CHANNEL for Rush Fans - bringing you the tragedy of this iconic Canadian recording studio. The story is still being written on its fate. It's not dead yet! We've committed ourselves to following this place and keeping Rushians informed until it's final day of death, or resurrection to glory.

  • beautiful place to record

  • REDE GLOBO APRESENTA: PROFISSÃO PERIGO!

    MCGYVER ETERNO!

  • no se que onda pero este es un super temaaaaaaaaaa!!!karajoo de la puta madre TOM SAWYER!!!!!!!!!para mi es uno de los mejores temas del rock progresivo!!

  • @livefordrum Well, I know Rush is older than Dream...

So now, Im sure Dream is some based on Rush

    right?

  • @MetalDemon17

your'e right. Petrucci had even mentioned Alex as one of the players that inspired him when he had grown up

  • I detect some of Dream Theater in this song...

    just a bit

  • I like rush and appreciate them musically. Here is what I will say about the comments: I think Geddy's voice is graiting to a point, can only be taken in small dosages.

And lets think about what has come from Canada in the music scene? Rush, Bryan Adams, Celine Dion..... yeah, it's not Rush....

  • @willseibold1 and The Guess Who????

  • If my memory serves me right, Geddy Lee said he used Fenders on Moving Pictures. Hmm..

  • @LRKProductionz Tom Sawyer and Vital Signs are definitely played on the Ric. Everything else sounds like a Fender Jazz...

  • This is easily the best music video on youtube...

  • great musicians. but geddy lee is a crap singer. soz rush fans

  • @revolutionBEASTIE777 I suppose your right...but I dig his voice anyway

  • @MysteryClown000 he's also kind of a freakbag

  • @revolutionBEASTIE777 He's like the best rock singer in the world!!

  • Best band ever...

  • Great song!

  • good song

  • can you imagine you were out for a mid winters walk with say your dog or something... just walking through the woods- and you stumble upon them recording that piece... oh hey man?.. whats up?... whats that you guys are working on?

yeah right~ HA, just brilliance is all

  • They don't need the Rock and Roll Hall of Fake. The band has got the love and respect of all million fans around the world!! RUSH rules!!!

  • Great song. It's annoying when people think they know a lot about them just because they know this or Limelight though. I think By-Tor and the Snow Dog's drum solo blows this one out of the water. I saw it live twice.

  • @Ryu12543 what about dictators and narpets from foutain of lamneth thats also a sweet solo and ur right about people thinking they know alot about rush

  • @zackjp Yeah, that one is actually probably better than By-Tor and the Snow Dogs. When I said seen it live twice, I meant Tom Sawyer, I wish I could see By-Tor live lol. Or all of their '70s stuff.

  • @Ryu12543 look on youtube theres hundreds of live vids from the 70's and I wish i was alive in the 70's i hate growing up now when you grew up was everybody closed minded about everything i am a bit of a weird one but i get called a fag everyday and sometimes i just laugh becuase it is just not insulting anymore LOL

  • @zackjp I meant see them live in person. You get called a fag just because you listen to Rush? How ironic. They probably listen to Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Nickelback, etc.

  • @Ryu12543 ya actully almost got beat up today becuase idk people just suck and i would do almost anything to go to a rush concert

  • I love Neil's drum breaks from 2:37-2:46. Incredible!

  • @rivotrich7 I can do that on drums, Once you know how to play it it isn't that hard. It just sounds awesome

  • @rivotrich7 Though Neil plays it like a million times better than me XD

  • They made such great music at this studio (Le Studio in Morin-Heights) and now you can see a video of the studio's current shape. It's criminal a place like this has gone so far downhill. look up "Le Studio Morin Heights"

  • I agree..they belong in the hall. C'mon this isn't a 1-hit wonder band getting goofy votes for the hall. Subdivisions, Losing It, etc.. those aren't Top 40 "Sell-Out" songs..Tom Sawyer is beaten to death but I never tire of the drums. Also..I never knew even the keyboard music was manual here (like at 3:10-3:11 when he is hitting those keys). That is cool!

  • Is this the take that they actually recorded the song on?

  • @astrolifter Good Question! The drum track, keyboard touches, etc..

all look in sync don't they?

  • @astrolifter Yup They recorded it in quebec which is what you see in the video

  • ahhh, that old tama kit!

tell me the professor didn't sell more of those things than anyone.

  • thats a badass drumset. fuck ya go rush!

  • They don't care about the hall of fame; Alex Lifeson called it a joke at one point. Plus, everyone with any credibility respects them already.

  • ABBA got into the RnR hall of fame......SAD

  • take your fucking conversations elsewhere

  • I know I have taken up most the comments allotted on this page just talking too much, but I just NEED to say, that since I discovered YouTube, and how to get to the Rush uploads and channels, which I must have virtually used until the wheels verge on falling off, then the TA DA! moment when it was announced that Rush is starting a North American tour on June 29th, 2010, I scrambled to get tickets to the first show because it is only 3 hours from my home town.-cont.

  • @Satonica They play Albuquerque, NM on opening night, my FIRST time EVER seeing them and I have been walking around in a fog ever since, a fog that won't lift until well after the night of that show, I have just met SO DAMN MANY Canadians, fellow Rush fans, all eager to help, share info with me, etc. and it just amazes me how nice every single Canadian I have come across is.-cont.

  • @SatonicaThanks folks. It's much less painful just to be nice to others, especially like the different types you can meet even here on YT, who can chew you up, spit you out, then pick their teeth with your bones, and Canadians do NICE really well. Thank you from the Rush Fan girl from down south, a few miles from "the secrecy of the desert sand" at Ground Zero, Trinity Site, White Sands Missile Range, where the first atomic bomb was test fired in July, 1945,-cont.

  • @Satonica then dropped on 2 Japanese islands the next month in early August, and "the course of history was changed forevermore," like Rush sings so eloquently in the song, one of my faves by them, "Manhattan Project." You guys are ALL great, eh!?! I am one American citizen who appreciates it and had I been asked to choose what country would be my country's neighbor to the North, I would have picked Canada in a heartbeat.-cont.

  • @Satonica But maybe I wish Rush was from my neighborhood instead, because if they remembered me from childhood, maybe they would have given me a job or at least hooked me up with concert tickets for all those tours I missed. Sorry for talking so much. Canadians+Rush=Rock Solid through and through. (Maybe you guys ride the train to Bangkok once in a while?? LoL Just kidding. I'm going to shut up now.:X

  • What a beautiful studio that was. It's not often you see a studio with that kind of view.

It's a shame it no longer exists.

  • Even Alex Lifeson air drums to this song. 1:41.

  • @TelecasterJoe

    I know, right?!

Alex's syncopation is perfect while keeping time with his foot! : )

I understand Geddy plays mean drums, as well!

  • that is a bad ass vid t(-_-t)

  • I LOVE this vid, this is the clip that got me hooked. Peart particularly was revealed here in all his kicka## glory, a freak of nature that completely changed the drumming world since, along with Stewart Copeland.

  • Then , after the Beatles broke up, God gave us RUSH.

  • When I was probably 8 or 9, I used to lay my parents albums out on the carpet end to end, then race my matchbox cars around and around (to their chagrin). One of the albums was Moving Pictures. One day I put it on the turntable, and lowered the needle. The rest is history.....

  • Epic...sir.....Epic.

  • @pensiveperson01 hey that's a cool story, i've been a fan since 1975.

  • Talented or what!!!

  • @EMBOBZ2112 no kidding! EPIC TALENT, yes 3 guys, NO SAMPLES, LOOPS or any other fake bullshit, just TALENT and KILLER writing skills, these guys BROKE the mold and nobody touched em. Nobody!

  • @speedburnervideo well said !!!

  • Where did this vid come from? I saw another rush vid the other day in the same studio...is this available on dvd or something?

  • Yes, there are other videos that they shot in LeStudio. Limelight and Vital Signs are also shot the same way. Talk about being on a budget ! I think all the Moving Pictures videos were shot on one day up at LeStudio. Then they just edited them a little differently with certain embellishments. Great studio. Both Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures were recorded there. A distinct "woody" and warm sound. Gorgeous analog 2-inch tape and tube microphones. Ahhhhh :)

  • In fact Rush recorded 7 of their best album there at Le Studio: Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Presto, Roll the Bones & Counterparts. I went to Morin heights yesterday to see for the first time Le Studio and it sad to see that place is now close and abandoned verry sad!

  • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame can kiss my ass, Geddy's ass, Neil's ass, Alex's ass, and all their fans asses because this band deserves to be in there more than any other.....Creativity and skill amazes me.

  • I agree when they induct somebody like Patti Smith, who was barely a blip on the radar screen,it twists the definition of accomplishment and talent. These guys have been cranking out great music for 30 years and wtf has she done???

  • Is Ged playin bongos???

  • no he isnt

  • F'ing nice clip :)

  • this song is fucking pro

  • superb,stupendous,fabulous,magical,excellent,princely,fantastic!!!!

  • Great clip......

  • best band out there

  • best band ever, best album ever, best song ever

  • I visited Le Studio in the early 80's...I am old lol. Located in Morin Heights, Quebec, Le Studio was state of the art at the time. It was also convenient for Neil Peart, who had a house located not too far away.

  • I thought a video for Red Barchetta was shot in this studio as well, cant find it. Seen this one, limelight & Vital signs....is there one for RB or did I imagine it ?????

  • 2:34 - 2:47 made me cry tears of joy.

  • Neil fucking Peart dude!

  • a favorite of mine as well.

  • The now defunked 'Le Studio' in the Canadian mountainside. The studio and land sat for a while abandoned until it was purchased and turned into a spa. What a shame. Many of Rush's great albums were created there.

  • Oh to be a recording tech that day and see rock history being made!!!

  • Makes you wonder if they had any kind of idea how MONSTER this song & album would be when they were up there in the snowy woods that day... Incredible!

  • Dang neal pert had an awesome kit!!

  • Perfekt !

  • moving pictures was released in 1981

  • Wow. Keep rockin guys.

  • and there i was in Glasgow listening on my headphones in my bedroom........and here it is being created .....amazing the power of music.....thank you Rush...........

  • omg so good!

  • Why aren't these guys in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's criminal.

  • i know right! they deserve it. they've been touring and making albums for like 30 years

  • cus theyre canadian.?.?

  • @danthemanpart33 Rock and Roll Hall of Shame doesn't deserve Rush. They are far to good for that nonsense!

  • @Satonica I agree Rush are one of the most Underrated bands for sure. Geddy Lee is totally awesome. And Neal Peart is deadly on the drums, I don't know anyone who plays a revolving drum set besides him. LOL and can't knock Alex either he's sure no deadweight. Greatest Canadian band right up there with Loverboy.

  • @austin27332 Loverboy?? Ok, and maybe Neil Young.

  • @austin27332 Neil Young and his band, Crazy Horse is what I mean of course.

  • @Satonica lol I forgot about Neil YOung your right. Keep on rocking in the freeworld. LOLS :)

  • There you go. Canada has had a few. Maybe not quite to my tastes but popular and talented in their own right. Joni Mitchell, Bryan Adams, Gordon Lightfoot, Denny Doherty (Mamas & the Papas), John Kay(naturalized Canadian citizenship) of Steppenwolf, The Guess Who, Anne Murray, Five Man Elictrical Band, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, everyone in Heart BUT the Wilson sisters lol, Triumph, cont.

  • @austin27332 Mahogany Rush, Moxy, Anvil, Razor, Voivod, Sword, Exciter, Annihilator, The Barenaked Ladies, Sarah McLachlan, Céline Dion, Alanis Morissette,Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne and I'm getting way off target, but Canada seems to be holding her own pretty well because that was a small percentage of Canadian rock/pop music 1960=2010, then when you give Canada her credit for the MASSIVE amount of comedic talent they-cont.

  • have given to the rest of the world, comics who gained fame on SCTV and Saturday Night Live, and that puts Canada front and center. Nothing to snooze about in my opinion. Then just keep on rockin' in the free world like you said. Canada has had a MAJOR effect on modern rock music, even if all they could claim is Rush. Rush makes up for ANY losses. They rule!

  • @Satonica I couldn't have said that better myself. Canada has a lot of awesome talent. Went to see Anvil last summer, opened for AC DC in Moncton, New Brunswick. They really kicked ass. Great Canadian band.

  • @austin27332 Wow, that's awesome. Ever since Anvil "re-entered" film and performing recently, I have continually wondered if they are seriously a real band and actually FROM back in the day or just a spin on Spinal Tap, an imaginary band, band mates played by some of those very Canadian comics I spoke of earlier.-cont.

  • @Satonica lol yep they are seriously LOUD and very real. hahaha Rob Reiner is a great frontman.

  • @austin27332 I don't mean to be insulting in ANY way but I'm no spring chicken, yet I had NEVER heard of Anvil (living down here New Mexico way in the southern USA) until this recent film about them came out. I guess they're for real, eh? lol

  • @Satonica yeah Anvil they are a pretty good band, they are loud.. lol.. Yeah I also know where NM is lol Billy the Kid stomping grounds at the Las Cruces Jail. LOL

  • @danthemanpart33 Look at how long it took Black Sabbath to get into..

  • @danthemanpart33 The need to have their OWN HALL!!

  • Comment removed

  • @danthemanpart33 OH SHIT I DIDNT KNOW THAT!

  • @danthemanpart33 Because for the Hall of Fame to induct Rush now would be to admit to a mistake. They should have been in decades ago, but the HOF will stick to their bullshit and continue to induct people like Toni Basil.

  • not anymore, unfortunately.

  • uhhh dude, ya they are "Snakes and Arrows" came out in 2007 and they are going to make another album soon

  • I now must have a Rickenbacker.

  • Some of us secretly love Rush precisely because Geddy is well beneath a Bon Jovi in looks. We can relate to that. Of course the music has to grab us too. Which it does.

  • Rush is amaing

  • yes, Geddy Lee looks like an old lady but i like his voice

  • eff you geddy lee is the boss

  • so what!! Geddy isn't pretty, but does that make him any less of an awesome musician?!?!

  • Not being familiar with the band I thought he was a chick while I was watching this sorry. You're right he's a good musician

  • dude this is one of my all time favorite songs i wish i had a camera so i couldrecord me and my band playing :(

    -

  • I could've sworn there was a regular music video for this.

  • Never heard them properly before, what a song!

  • I always loved that fill right before "but change is" after the guitar/drum solo @ 2:56 .

I wonder why Neil played a different one live.

  • Who was playing the drums on this video, was it neil pert.

  • I think his last name is pronounced "Pratt".

  • Peart

  • where is this studio? Is it in canada

  • Yeah its in Canada, the great white north, Eh?

  • thanks, Eh

  • The studio is Le Studio

Check it out on wikipedia. Several good albums recorded there

  • Geddy sometimes looks like Joey Ramones long lost brother.

  • Maestros!

  • Alex Lifeson is the God of riffs.

  • intro is cool

  • such wonderful, gazillion stars for this.

  • Not the best video I've ever seen but one of my all time favorite songs by Rush.

  • ddddddddddddddduuuuuuuuuuuuuddddddddddddeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Neil's drumming is incredible but he looks like a robot, there's no expression in his face when he's drumming, lol

  • its called concentration and focus

  • rockin \m/

  • tony is a new classic, I really like it, so nice

  • Fuckin' masters.

  • Oh brave Canadians

  • jesus, neil is awesome

  • i wonder what year the band started???

  • 1968

  • Rush actually started in '68. It was Alex first, then Geddy and when their first record came out in '74, their original drummer was John Rutsey. Then Rutsey left and Neil Peart joined that same year and they've been the Rush we know ever since.

  • john rutsey gave rush its name

  • Last year would've been 40 years.

  • anyone else see the Eraserhead mvie posterin the background at 0:28

  • Amazing! The song is so nice!

  • Geddy: One of the best bass player around. Neil: He's not human, he's a drumming machine, the most talented musician of Rush. Alex: He's ok, when he has the chance of showing what he can do, he's a good guitarist.

  • Geddy's and Neil rock... Alex is awesome, but not quite at their level.

  • No, this is not Neal Peart's house. It is a studio in Morin Heights, Quebec. Le Studio is now abanoned and the land is for sale. It is correct that Neal Peart has a home near Le Studio that he purchased after his wife's death.

  • this is actually neil pearts house

  • Moving Pictures would be the one I would want to have if I was marooned on a small pacific Island with just a CD player.....field of GRASS

    .....hopefully food for the munchies...

    Wait....

Getting carried away.......One of my Top 5

    favorite releases ever.....Musicianship a 10

    ON FUCKIN FIRE

  • fantastic band and what a surround drum kit.

I have always dug their sound.

  • love to imagine what it was like IN THAT Studio with them. What the place was like inside and out.

oh to be a fly on the wall huh?

  • Thanks SO MUCH for your kind help with this track.Chop,England

  • keith moon... stewart copeland... geddy almost blisters up on the keys

  • comparing drummers to bass players.. yay

  • actually, I was making 2 comments, 1) keith moon and stewart copeland are also reputable drummers to temper the enthusiasm of some of the posts and 2) the footage of Geddy playing that riff on synth, a bit of sarcasm

  • Ha! I just noticed the Eraserhead poster in the background (behind Geddy Lee in various shots). Cool...

  • neil is the best drummer ever

  • neil is amazing, im not going to deprive him of that, but john bonham was an overall better play. He had feel, soul, and could rly hold the beat. dont get me wrong though, i was neil live, he is one of my fav drummers, i just say bonham is better

  • you like him better, but he is not "better"

  • ur right, its all opinion

  • i love the riff

  • Rock N'Roll! I love the video footage of RUSH at Le Studio. That's one hell of a rockin' studio environment. I dig the snow!

  • it looks like the singer isnt there with them i t looks like they separte

  • He's recording his vocals separate, because he also plays the bass

  • limelight and vital signs

  • any more videos available from that studio?

  • such a rare clip...

  • I wish I coudl get a good shot of that synth setup dude's jammin on over there!

    Great video!

  • preeeeeeeeeeeetty goooood o.o
