John Farnham is an aussie legend. This was originally sung by him with soul and became an aussie anthem. David hasn't really changed up the rhythm or the vocal backings at all. It is like listening to a direct copy. If he knew just how legendary Fanham was, he would never have tried to pull this one off. Just way out of his league and all australians would agree. John's version did have a wicked bagpipe section in it as well which simply sets it apart.

I'll even tell you what to listen for. Do you remember Cher's "Believe"? That sound is pitch correction turned full on.

Used more subtly it's harder to hear but it's there. Listen for the notes "snapping" to pitch. 2:06 or anything after.

The higher he goes, the more help he needs to be stable.

Miley, of course it'll sound ok. That's the point. The problems have been "fixed" by a studio engineer. Someone like me.

But listen a little closer. Listen to the transitions BETWEEN the notes.

Listen to how it "flips" between the notes just that little bit too quickly. It's subtle but you'll hear it after a while. The "Cher" effect. :)

Once you manage to hear it, you'll also notice how many other artists use it too.

Oh, and being gay doesn't usually affect someone's hearing.

While that is used a lot for the Ashlees and Britneys today (and may very well have been used here with Archie) Archie is great live and they are not--- because Archie can actually sing.

He performed this song live on "AI" and, while imperfect, was mostly pretty good, and they don't digitally pitch-correct there.

And I'm a creepy middle-aged guy as opposed to a lovestruck teenage girl. ;)

actually, the auto pitch isn't used at 2:06 at all, in fact, its rarely used throughout the song, he had to tone the song down because he didnt have the range of john farnham, who by the way, is far from phenomenal, good...... but not phenomenal.

David has done a good job of pulling off a cover version of a difficult song to sing, but you're wrong about the auto pitch, very wrong.

This is my opinion. David Archuleta has a better and more pure voice than David Cook, but Cook's voice has a higher range than Archie's, so Cook can sing more variety of songs than Archuleta. Archie's main focus is ballads and slower songs (except for his new pop song). However, david cook can probably sing almost every song that is given to him. As great Archuleta is, Cook is much more well rounded. I bet Cook can sing ballads pretty well, but I doubt that Archie can sing rock songs that well.

I love David Archuleta! In my standards Archie won. He got a recording contract about a month and a half ago, and I will go and get his CD the DAY it comes out.
