@lijahmane nope, as long as you put a coat of paint, or nail polish, or anything that will dry and not chip off of wood. or, use a thin layer of tape.
@purebloodliz maybe bout 1 month, but everyone if different, once they stopped hurting, or if theyre loose and you can freely move them, thats when you go to the next size.
Holy shxt dude I've done that before! xD I used a fingernail filer thingy instead of siccors. I also polished it with nail polish and it looked like the real deal! And they didn't harm my ear s they're safe I guess :) You save anout $15 :D

NO you wont get splinters if you use some nail polish over it so it can be smooth and stretch your ear easily.
