  • god as a creator of everything , no thank you .

god as an idea of there being something bigger, why not .

god should get the same level of power as dragons , unicorns & mermaids . A FUCKING FAIRY TALE TO AMUSE US .

  • I don't think that... whoever made this video, understands that... Colbert is being ironic!! he is not making fun of Prof Hawking but making fun of the pointless religion arguments that for some reason still exist in 2012... Please, correct that. He is making Prof Hawking's point much stronger by using smart and funny ironic remarks

  • @vjanicek The video uploader understands that entirely, watch the whole video.

  • I know it's satire but... It isn't funny.

  • Answers 1. Question is not worth answering.

    2. No it does not significantly weaken the argument. The reason for that , is that the argument that our universe was tailor made for life is already so weak that it is almost meaningless to add any more evidence to the mountains of data that shows the reverse: life has evolved to fit the circumstances of our already present universe; a universe which is ever changing. Sometime that ability will fail on this planet, so we must go to space.

  • What is wrong with the "Colbert is not hating, he's joking" commenters?. Do you honestly think LiberalViewer and his subscribers don't know Colbert is joking? Pay closer attention to the questions at the end please.

For myself, I'm hopeful meaningless exclamations are replacing actual pleas to a theistic divine. I also hope Hawkings's work (evidence) is just more darts that hasten the retreat of theism.

  • "The Universe is not only queerer than we imagine, it is queerer than we can imagine." -J Haldane

Concepts of God, not being constrained by a need for evidence, will have a place in human societies. The most ardent atheist will still be influenced by societies of the past, including highly religious ones. Science, however, will cause concepts of God to retreat as evidence is gained. Fewer people will call "Oh God" and mean it.

  • Colbert is just kidding. He plays the role of a right-wing/illogical/religious man. But, it's all a joke. Don't take him seriously. His "attacks" are only attacks his character is making, not himself.

  • ummm.. i think the guy cmmenting on this video does not know the meaning of SATIRE :P

COLBERT is MOCKING... not being serious.

  • you're videos are really retarded. you dont represent all liberals. its a shame that you get so much attention though.

  • ghenry has obviously read all of Hawking's (with a "g" ghenry) work. Thank you! No one else has ever studied Hawking's entire body of work and so helpfully refuted it for us. In case there's any doubt, I'm being sarcastic.

  • Liberalviewer is not hating on Colbert, what's wrong with you idiots?

  • Stephen Colbet is the shit! Liberalviewer is just another hater.....disgusting....

  • @Openmind241 hes not hating

  • It's unfortunate that after Liking several of your videos I came across this one which now makes me take you less seriously. No-one's perfect, but given you do a good job with your observations, for your credibility's sake I would remove this video...unless I've missed something and you were actually being satirical as well.

  • LiberalViewer, please tell me you're kidding...how could you possibly have taken this seriously and NOT realized that it is entirely tongue-in-cheek satire?

  • omg libviewer i didn't know you were such a downy

  • Stephen 'Sphincter Boy' Colbert.

  • @morgywops lol

  • LiberalViewer after all is not so smart...

  • @KuhoinX felt the same way

  • You completely missed the point. haha

  • I think it wasn't tailor made even without other universes. I mean, life got billions of years and billions of stars and until now we only know about only one place and time where it's there. This is a very high probability.

  • @algi80 That is evolution, not cosmology. What Hawkings is talking about is why the initial conditions surrounding the Big Bang. Also, I suspect you need a lesson on statistics. Probability doesn't work how you seem to think it does.

  • @HrMerrlol 1. Evolution is about how life diversifies, it doesn't tell anything about the Universe. 2. Yes, probability works like that: the more opportunity you have, the greater the chance of success. If it is not probable that life would start on a planet, it's much more probable if you get plenty of time and plenty of planets. So even if there was no other universes and it would be totally random where life starts, somewhere there must be one place where it can start.

  • Whoever "LiberalViewer" is... do yourself a favor and swallow a grenade ... your videos are such a waste... do we really need you to give us a play by play while you completely miss the point?

  • I think LV understands that Colbert was joking...

  • In a nutshell humans are more tailor made for the universe, not vice versa. It's called evolution!

  • @ghenry85 That is evolution, not cosmology. The Multiverse their is a pseudoscientific attempt to explain why the initial conditions of the Universe are so incredibly slim to sustaining even the Universe itself. The Multiverse hypothesis is rather discredited though. Oh, and Hawkings is not a top Physicist. He hasn't done anything except get unwarranted fame for being a cripple and appearing on the Discovery channel.

  • @HrMerrlol True, but the video both this and the Colbert skit had little to with cosmology. It was more about about religion vs. science in general. The Multiverse theory is just a theory, ie the jury is still out on the topic.(Where did mention it in my first post anyways). As far as Hawkins goes, just because he's cripple doesn't take away from his genius(his iq score is identical to Einstiens). Wiki him, he has tons of awards acknowledging his works. Nobody is 100% right all the time.

  • @ghenry85 Hawkins has never taken an IQ test, nor has Einstein, What are you even talking about? Multiverse is not a theory, more of a hypothesis. And I never mentioned that because he's a cripple he is a bad scientist. I am saying the public buy into the idea of a genius cripple scientist. He is known for his image first, then that he IS a scientist, and finally that he DOES science.

Where did you get your information from? This stuff is just blatantly false...

  • This is a good link for Bible interpretation of symbols.

    youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=3urLgCL1PUc&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Are you into physics at all. Try this video. The 1st is a little slow starting and the guy is not a entertainer by any means. Once he gets into his diagrams the flow is much better.

youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=m7SVpi1Yy28&feature=youtube_gdata_player There are 7 videos in the series and this stuff definitely was not known about when the bible was written

  • colbert is clearly being sarcastic, making religious people look dumb

the bible is a load of shit as are all religion. You can completey disprove noahs ark- & if one part of the BOOK is clearly false, then the whole thing loses credibility.

sure religion had its uses in the dark ages- giving people hope, and a reason to be good- but in modern society its starting to get in the way of important things like science and civil rights- we are slowly transitioning out of this superstitious nonsense

  • On the first question, I doubt it. No matter how great our understanding, there will be those who think science is a grand conspiracy because they'd rather believe nonsense.

On the second. I don't know how much of the multiverse theory is provable, but one thing that does weaken the idea that the universe is tailor made for us is the simple fact that the vast majority of the universe is inhospitable to human life.

It is something like 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% deadly.

  • please stop explain what we are watching, we are not dum like tea party

  • Trying to analyze (incorrectly might I add) a satirical character in a serious manner? Yeah, Ill chalk this one up in the "ignore opinion" column

  • i'm sorry, but can't you perceive that colbert is making fun of religion?..

  • Dude-I agree with most everything you say but you sound like a stalker or something. Study Hemmingway brother.

    My best.

  • This narrator has an engaging personality and is really very insightful, perspicacious and interesting.

  • firstly there is a lot science cannot explain and every discovery comes with more questions. I dont think it will be asking the proverbial "Why am i here" any time soon . Quantum mechanics is based on a mathematical principle of uncertainty. Secondly, everyone knows Steven Hawkins main conjecture on the black hole information paradox was wrong .. right.

  • God is "Spirit" a dim. science can't get at other than math at this point.

  • God is outside of time. Time is a dimension. Just ponder how would you communicate with a 2D universe. God proved he was God by speaking to people about events before they happened and told them to write it down (the bible)

  • @pbottoff I won't hold my breath waiting for a plague of iron clad locusts that look like horses but with the hair of women, the faces of humans, the teeth of lions, who wear golden crowns and bear scorpion tails.

    I mean... seriously? That's crazy.

  • Stephen Colbert's "ironic attack" was not an ironic attack on Hawking. It was a satirical attack mocking creationists. I understand you have this in the description below the video, but did you add that in after making the video? I ask this because your tone and phrasing in the video itself make it seem like you're saying that Colbert was serious about what he said. The question mark in the title only seems to add more confusion on whether you realize that Colbert's remarks were satirical.

  • we already know there is no god

  • @vict0r1ous proof it .. scientifically , using science by studied observation. .. also i want you to proof that a orange is black on the inside but turns orange once the skin is broken.

  • Life can only produce life nuff said

  • @TurretsLamma Scientist will produce life one day... does that mean they are god?

  • @dangle66 yip . and timetravel and teleportation and complete reality control

  • i dont think you really get the satire....

  • i only trust science that can be proven, otherwise it is be self deprecating.

  • Everyone knows GOD IS REAL(by GOD I mean JESUS). Every atheist out there has never been able to explain" what was before the "big bang" and most importantly WHO made it?" if your atheist and you have an answer inbox me. I'm curious to see that answer. Now please take to mind that if you're wrong and there is a GOD out there, well I do feel sorry for you. GOD EXISTS AND YOU KNOW IT!!!

  • @Alessbrasil7 If you read Stephen Hawking's article, he explains what happened before the big bang. "As recent advances in cosmology suggest, the laws of gravity and quantum theory allow universes to appear spontaneously from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist. It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going. The laws of nature explain how the universe was created.

  • I might have misunderstood this guy, but it sounded more like he was making fun of "the use" of god instead of attacking atheism. That´s how I see it and it is actually funny... except for the part where he calls Mr. Hawking an a-hole... no need for that and not funny.

  • Everyone knows GOD IS REAL, by GOD I mean JESUS. every atheist out there has not been able to go before what they know. For example: the big bang. What was before the big bang. Most importantly WHO made it. It certainly did not come from apes. Now as a word of advice to all atheists, DO NOT HIDE FROM THE TRUTH BECAUSE IF YOUR WEAK EXPLANATION OF LIFE. GOD IS REAL AND YOU KNOW IT!!!

  • @Alessbrasil7

first of all, saying -I dont know- is perfectly acceptable.

secondly, saying -God poofed universe into existence- is about as weak as explanations get.

third, there's no such thing as "before the big bang" time started when the universe began expanding, "before" then there was no such thing as time. so nothing could have come "before" the universe.

  • It should be clear to anyone that knows just a little astronomy that the universe was not "made" for our kind of life.

99.999~% of the universe would kill you in less than one minute. We have adapted to the environment here on this one planet that life evolved from and no other. We cannot survive on any other planet in our solar system and we certainly cannot survive exposure to space unprotected.

Most of this planet cannot be inhabited by humans because it's salt water.

    We were not "made"!

  • I used to have a lot of respect for Colbert, but his tirade against Hawking revealed his true nature. Stephen Hawking an ahole ? Colbert belongs with the other "religious right" idiots !

  • Stephen Colbert is just a character... It's a joke.

  • If the universe were "tailor made" for human life, then said human life would be able to exist in more than a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the universe, don't you think?

  • Hey science! Thanks for the nukes, the electronics, and pretty much everything useful in society! Now could you please go die in a hole?

    Love, Religion

  • This was all a huge joke!

  • It doesn't weaken the argument for a creator since there is nothing to be weakened. There is not and never has been a single decent argument for the existence of gods.

  • anyone who thinks that there might be multiple universes but slams the idea that god might exist is an idiot. Neither have any proof of being true in the eyes of pure science. Multiverse theory is purely hypothetical. Some dude makes up the multiverse theory to explain some flaws in another theory and we are all meant to believe it cause he is good at maths. Oh and colbert is making as much fun out of theists as he is atheists in this sketch. world is full of idiots.

  • @boxingjacks Plenty of gods existed, Amon for one... except he was actually a person. Wait all of the gods who actually existed were people, wtf who would have thought?

  • I sometimes make exclamations like "GREAT THOR", "BY THUNDER" and "THANK ZEUS", and thats as religious as I get. so as far as my personal experience goes, the answer is yes, exclamations are the only remaining vestige of my faith.

  • @aSheeple Seriously, you say those things? They'll have to pry my Christian exclamations out of my dying secular hands. There are so many disadvantages to being a member of an oppressed religious minority, that it seems only fair we at least get to enjoy our freedom to blaspheme.

  • @RememberTheTime99 O I blaspheme too. I really like to say "Jesus fucking Christ"

  • Yeah, it's just satire. I don't think he was attacking Atheism. Neil DeGrasse Tyson is an atheist and he seems to have an abundance of respect for him.

  • i think colbert was making fun of the creationist god. as in wen he said those things he meant the various things creationists believe in

  • Multiuniverse.....

  • yes and yes

  • As you say - SATIRE :) - meaning he isn´t actually meaning the stuff he says and uses it for humour. So while the ending comment about our meaning may be right the whole setup screws it up.

  • uhh...dude you obviously DO NOT realize he's MOCKING The intolerant. Are you so ignorant you don't understand he's Actually FOR the things He pretends to argue AGAINST? He's "playing" a dim witted far right conservatist. But its his "act".

  • I don't understand why the existence of suitable conditions for life on earth is ever an argument for God or any deity. Lets say earth must be X if life is to evolve, life evolved therefore earth was X it can't possibly be anything else, we wouldn't be here otherwise. So why on earth are we so amazed that it is. What could be used for an argument for the existance of god would be that the world was unsuitable for life and yet loads of unexplainable miracles kept us alive

  • @dadeskr also out of many planets ours is the only one with life on it.

  • Before you atheist start to defend Colbert I would like to inform you that he is actually a practicing Catholic. Yeah... Sucks for you lol.

  • Colbert is awesome, and at comedy central. I am sure he was joking.

  • This shit is hilarilus. For a supposed atheist, the barrator of this video comes across as intolerant and behaves similar to a religious fanatic. If a muslim had made a similar video attacking jibes made to his religion in a similar manner to colberts methods, i guarantee these same atheists would blast them as deluded cavemen..

  • But really I don't get this video at all. Colbert is known for portraying a role and usually says really dumb shit to point out what other people actually think. My saying out loud stupid thinks he tries to point out that THEY ARE stupid things.

It's called satire and i did not feel that Colbert attacked Hawking at all.

Colbert did not have an ironic attack on atheism it was a satirical attack on religon for goodness sake.

  • @TheMajinTrunks i agree but there is no need to call him an Asshole

  • Merely a comedian but certainly not a thinker..@_@..That's all I can say and will say ..nothing more. Peace. ^_^

  • multiuniverse theory is speculation.

  • @truevoiceofsanity so is god :))

  • NBC running ads on youtube?

    fucking priceless

  • I do not believe in Thor, yet when asked what day comes before Friday, I will reply "Thursday".

  • Comment removed

  • As long as theist put faith and theory as both bieng on the same playing field but just on opposing sides of the field, then theism will not recede ,in fact, as it has been demonstrated time and time again, the more scientific advances that are made the more foam that appears at the mouth of believers.

  • I always like LiberalViewer on various which he help highlight to the world. But this is crazy. LiberalViewer has gone mad with political correctness.

By going after Colbert on such issues, highlight his own uneasiness of any views against his own even when Colbert was clearly playing pun with conservative views.

Such zealotry shows sometimes he becomes a "stick up his ass" even though he himself proclaims to be a liberal. By over stressing his liberal views show how conservative he truely is.

  • Comedy is comedy.

  • Colbert is totally funny

  • This video is retarded;

  • this is retarded

  • What I don't understand is why people even address the "tailor-made-for-humans" perspective. They are thinking about it the wrong way around. A basic understanding of evolution is all you need, the universe wasn't made /just so/ so we could survive here, the only way we COULD survive is if we adapted to it exactly as it is. If it were a little different, we would be different and it would still be "tailor-made" for us, or we wouldn't be here to ask about it at all.

  • you sound like youre eating while talking... so fucking aggravting

  • this man needs to be better to make people laugh.

he need to practice many years to be a good clown

and billions of years for to be a scientist

  • I'd personally love to debate the multi-verse with Hawkings, as I've thought about it for years. I see no possible way it could exist. That's to say, w/o a deity, there could be no multiverse. Personally, it comes across as a desperate attempt to explain something we currently know nothing about due to limitations. I.e., making the claim to the multiverse is no different then making a claim to God. It's adding supernatural to the natural.

  • Stephen Colbert is a Character not an actual person, he says things all in the sake of comedy.

  • @TriggerHead21 Right. Anyone who doesn't realise that is gonna end up way off-course. Man's a comic genious, in my opinion. He's sooooo quick-witted eg even when it's clearly not scripted and is just a mega-clever and funny retort.

  • @TriggerHead21 And I know about comedy; I'm British;-)

  • Comment removed

  • A tailor made universe caters to the idea that there was a plan to create humans in their current form. On the contrary, humans evolved because the way the universe turned out. You could call it statistically improbable or impossible, but somewhere, someone won the lottery today.

  • @LiberalViewer Are you kidding me? Everything Cobert said just screams satire. Is this some kind of sick joke?

  • @ytfmichaelxu – Yes, I think LiberalViewer is kidding you. He’s definitely aware of the gag, as when he chuckles at 0:27 when responding to Colbert’s claim that Hawking is an a-hole, and at 1:56 when commenting on Colbert’s comparison of God to a high-school junior. And at 2:42, he says, “That was definitely amusing.”

  • I can imagine Stephen Colbert, the Roman Catholic, strutting around in medieval times taking the piss out of God and Christianity; then tied to a wooden stake with fire blazing at his feet and an angry lynch mob chanting, "BURN FOR BLASPHEMY!" I mean seriously, joke or not, we're supposed to believe this guy is a Christian? Yeah, and I'm Anne Frank, and this is my diary.

  • The video poster recognized that it was satire. Maybe he should have used the word "joke" or "sarcasm" for the sake of those with limited vocabularies. He also laughed a little after each segment. The poster is only asking a question, not taking a stance.

  • Why take jokes, and treat them laike it's true or scientific? Shame on you author. You shold laugh of thet, not to make theism unscientific.

  • The whole "Universe was specifically made for us" thing has always rubbed me the wrong way. First, we can't survive in about 99% of the fucking universe, and secondly, life is tailor made for the universe it's in, visa ve it's a natural occurance that only happens in environments that can support it <_<

  • People have to learn about Stephen Colbert's S.A.R.C.A.S.M.

  • The whole tailor-made argument is nonsense on its face. Of course we are going to be suited to the natural laws of the universe, we evolved in the presence of these laws! It would be like saying, of course their is a god, why else would fish have gills perfectly tailored to breathing under water?

  • *facepalm*

Christ, I knew conservatives were stupid, but you just made liberals a heavy contender for worlds most moronic ideological group.

Have you ever heard of satire? I mean, honestly, did you not see the little icon on the bottom right of your screen? You know, the one that says Comedy Central?

  • This is satire. He is a huge fan of Stephen Hawking.

  • I'm guessing someone is posing as a "Liberal Viewer". You're not fooling anyone, you know.

  • Wow dude do you understand what sarcasm means? Do you know why Stephen is on Comedy Central? You can't understand a joke that is smothered into your face...You and all the socially retarded "know-it-alls" that liked your video need to communicate with other people more often.

  • This was a pretty cool vid... and as much as I hate to admit it, Colbert made some funny jokes.

  • LiberalViewer,

Being "liberal" doesn't correlate with non-theism, unless you base your faith on mere statistics. And as I've understood it, liberals know how to take humor and parody. Looks like Colbert touched a liberal holy spot.

  • 1:52 apparently Colbert is joking about god rather than defending it

  • I'm gonna send a shell to your channel

  • What channel duos this come on.

  • @ejohnsonff playboy channel for kids

  • does this guy even know colbert is a devout catholic who teaches sunday school? Just because he may see theoretical reasons as to why god is not needed, it doesn't mean that you have to stop believing He exists.

  • That awkward moment when you start ripping on a comedian who is merely portraying a hyperbolic version of right-wingers for laughs.

  • @roninneko he's not ripping on him, mind u.

  • @roninneko Worse, that awkward moment when you overlook the word "satirical" to describe Colbert in BOTH written description and audio narration.

LV OBVIOUSLY knows Colbert is satire. He asks for comments on Colbert's veiled criticism of religion that its role in society can be very shallow. And he uses Colbert as a fun jumping off point to discuss Hawking's premise (since the books themselves could "substitute for Ambien.")

But YouTube is driven more by testosterone than subtlety.

  • I usually enjoy your videos very much! But..., on this case, to me, you seem to be barking up the wrong tree. My answer to your 1st question is I can only hope so! THe second was not quite clear. BUT, I think once again, Colbert was being a his normal satirical self and I BELIEVE that all 3 of us are on the same side? Religion is bunk and the world would be better without all these silly antiquated beliefs.

  • The word "God" in and of itself may mean many different things to many different people depending on their religious or otherwise philosophical upbringing.

I was raised Christian though I consider myself an agnostic: though I don't deny the existence of a higher power or the supernatural in general, I don't claim to know who's ultimately right or, more broadly put, what the ultimate cause is.

  • u do know colbert is in character right?

  • Shermodynamics, shmiteyears....I'm glad i'm not wasting my entire to try and figure out proofs to unreasonable what if? Like, what if, all the circumstances where perfect and a few molecules ended up near each other and create a life form. HEY 1 and a trillion chance, but it could happen. Yeah, my poop could be white tomorrow, so should be a stupid atheist too.

  • yes, and yes.

  • Seems like pure satire to me.

  • wots with the robot voice

  • I accidentally use god's name in "vein" all the time despite not believing he's there. Maybe it won't be part of our cultural dialog anymore in the future, but for now I think it's going to stick around as a form of colloquial euphemism.

  • It was a joke dude, that's why there was laughter after he said it. If you've ever seen the Colbert Report, the idiot conservative is just his character.

  • Haha, have the idiots not realized Colbert is a comedian...

  • Why waste your time proving that god never existed nor exists? Whatever begins to exist, always has a creation. If the big bang theory is what started the universe, what created the big bang? Oh a bunch of molecules colliding against eachother resulting in a big bang that created such fine details of the universe? To this day we can't make protons collide into eachother so what makes the theory right if it can't be proved accurately? It's just not possible. So simple minded.

  • @funkywrestlaa We can make protons collide into one another, it's called the LHC. Furthermore, just because we don't know where the energy before the Big Bang came from is not an argument for the existence of god. If anything, you are the simple minded one.

  • Stephen hawking is a dumbass.

  • It doesn't matter, because scientific law leans towards creationism in the facts that the own laws they try to bash religion with will prove it as well. The second law of thermodynamics, (which, Hawking won't touch), ENTROPY, and natural selection disproving evolution in it's own theory. Atheists show faith more than they would like to believe, as they eat up whatever top rated scientists say, just because. Keep Pascal's Wager in mind too.

  • @3nergybomberic Entropy has nothing to do with Evolution because all evolution says is that the creatures that can reproduce the most will survive the most. and first off tell me the other theories of thermodynamics? who was the first to propose them? and Atheism has no faith. because faith is believing in something without evidence. Atheism is just rejection of theism because there is no evidence to make such a claim that god exists or that humans should be theists.

  • @swinginman91 Alright, and how did the first bacteria spawn on earth? You mean to tell me, that energy randomly collected in one spot and formed a life force? This does violate entropy, as energy will keep becoming more and more spread out and random unless interfered with by an outside force of (intelligent) energy. Atheism has no faith? You believe (BELIEVE is the key word here) in unproven THEORIES, because you think they make more sense than religion. They can coexist..

  • @3nergybomberic well first of all it wasnt energy that formed life it was matter that formed life. Remember what the Miller-Urey experiment did (if you dont know what this is go look it up its in about every biology textbook out there). it proved that life COULD have formed out of the organic "soup" of nucleic acids (which are the foundation to all life) which become DNA.

  • @3nergybomberic Also. Atheism has no faith. we base what we accept as truth off of facts and observation. which is how theories form. a theory isnt just some cracked up idea. A theory is an explanation of a phenomenon after decades of tested proofs and data collected from people all over the globe. in essence something doesnt become a theory over night it has to be tested and proved. Newton's laws of motion are really his Theories of motions people mistake the word theory for an hypothesis.

  • @3nergybomberic It's more than just accepting what a scientist says: the scientist has to have proof for what he is saying. A top rated scientist, such as Hawking, has been able to do so consistently and therefore we trust him. How does natural selection disprove evolution? And what does the second law of thermodynamics have to do with anything?

  • @brothir I am easily at odds here, as this is a pro atheist video.. So it looks like no matter what I say, the people viewing my responses are at a bias, and will not take any of what I say into consideration. But I will state what I believe anyway. Hawking is a very intelligent man. That I will not dispute! But I cannot get behind what he says because he seemingly makes up universe paradoxes as a place holder for what he doesn't know yet.. I see more sense in creationism, and the

  • @brothir (cont) the second law of thermodynamics is a go to response to automatically shut down evolution, Entropy disproves evolution, and with enough prying, Natural selection contradicts it. Personal bias makes you blind to logic, as you probably met Christians or other theists that you did not get along with, so a 'bias wall' forms and you accept anything the opposite. I am a man of faith, AND science, I believe they are both necessary. They will eventually meet in the middle.

  • @3nergybomberic the second law of thermodynamics doesn't disprove evolution because it's based on a closed system. Earth is not a closed system because it's constantly receiving energy from the sun.

  • @owenwestland Just because the Earth is receiving energy from the sun does not mean we randomly spawn life. How many other planets in the universe have are getting energy from stars and whatnot, and we are the only known lifeforce for billions of lightyears in each direction. Dead space.

  • Comment removed

  • @owenwestland ....oh man, seriously?? Hate to do this to you but....

    Your argument is invalid because;

    light-year [lahyt-yeer, -yeer] Show IPA

    noun

    1.

Astronomy . the distance traversed by light in one mean solar year, about 5.88 trillion mi. (9.46 trillion km): used as a unit in measuring stellar distances. Abbreviation: lt-yr

May I remind you, that this literal definition of the word, uses the word DISTANCE. Source: Dictionary(.)com... Problem?

  • @3nergybomberic 99% of all life that ever lived on Earth are now extinct.......

  • @3nergybomb Excuse me, but I really do not understand why the second law of thermodynamics "shuts down" evolution. The second law of dynamics describes the relationship between the energy in a system and how that can either do work or generate heat. Entropy describes the differences between pressure, temperature and density in an isolated system. What do they have to do with evolution? Also, I have two Christian friends that I get along with and haven't had any bad run-ins with religious people.

  • @3nergybomberic Do your research. The second law of thermodynamics only applies in a closed system, which the earth is not.

  • @3nergybomberic If you had any proof or scientific consensus for anything you just said on disproving evolution, you would win the noble prize in science. The should write a paper and have it peered reviewed, I guarantee your hypothesis will be disproved in minutes.

  • @SuperShockjock The fact is, when things get down to the pin-point specifics, anything and everything can be disproved by people who look far enough into it. Besides, Noble Prizes are just given out nowadays. You would win a Nobel prize in being butthurt.

  • @brothir but like he said its a theory not fallible facts, and if you had actually read the hawking paper then you would know there is no actual evidence to back up his theory only possibilities. maybe instead of believing blindly what other people say you should understand the concepts of the evidences that, the person is trying to convey then you would be able to comprehend when some thing is a theory and when some thing is actual fact!

  • @elspiclatino You have no idea what a theory actually is. Besides, I never claimed that his hypothesis or theory (depending on which it is) was correct, nor am I sure that Hawking claimed it to be so. Indeed, it is possible that he merely discussed possibilites and presented them as such.

Also, I think you mean INfallible facts. Also, something in one word, not some thing (in your sentence, at least).

  • @brothir The second law of thermodynamics is a common creationist argument. They forget to mention that the Earth doesn't apply to the second law, because it's an open system. They don't know anything about it

  • @3nergybomberic you don't understand the second law of thermodynamics, nor how it relates to biological processes. For a reaction to occur change in free energy =< 0.

Free energy = change in enthalpy(heat) - Tx(change in entropy). This means that a reaction can occur spontaneously if either there is an increase in entropy (increased randomness) OR a decrease in entropy with an input of energy into the system. LIKE THE SUN.

  • It's hilarious how ignorant people are to Colbert's character. He's obviously mocking opposition, but that doesn't even account for his own beliefs. Colbert is actually Catholic, but he's never shy to mock religion, science, or anything in between.

  • It's.. a joke dude. I normally like your channel but c'mon now.. you've missed the mark on here what Colbert is doing. He's in character.

  • I don't get it: is this guy a conservative? If so, how?

  • @tantillumomnia No, its Colbert is satire. He's making fun of Fox News and particularly Bill O'Reilly. In when not in character he is very liberal.

  • does science explain where awareness come from? I take god as all that is. and to anyone who says they don't believe in god, but believe in science, would science then be your god? science has an excellent capability to produce content, but context comes from awareness. read up on radical subjectivity as the ultimate reality.

  • @SensibiliZation No, science is not a god. It's a method that humans have developed to obtain as objective and accurate knowledge about the universe as we possibly can get. If by awareness you mean sentience or conscience, biology has pretty much got that covered I think.

  • @brothir Biology says that consciousness comes from chemical reactions? why haven't we been able to re-create life by providing the right "conditions"? We know observer has major role in quantum theory. when you get matter and anti matter colliding you get 2 photons going opposite directions. They don't have any spin initially. When one is observed it starts to rotate, the other one immediately does opposite spin. everything is interconnected.
