My basenji mixed breed dog has been a God-send for both me and my family. She is a rescue dog, abandoned at a shelter. The shelter people found it odd that she was unable to socialize with the other dogs, yet loved her grandson and his cat. A typical basenji.
My basenji, named Ruben was also a victim of neglect, when I got him he weighed about 7 kg and today he weighs almost ten. Se we have about 1 kg left until he's fine. But he has blossomed up this year I've had him and can't understand how someone can treat this wonderful dog, or any dog for that matter, like crap.
We have just started work in Alabama as n00b station masters for B.R.A.T. , we have a wonderful time playing and transporting the basenjis, although the previous owners (some actually cared but just couldnt do it.) get very emotional, wonderful wonderful animals
That's so awesome! My girl Callie, had a Basenji Dad, and a Catahoula mom, and we got her from the Catahoula Rescue! She was in a Georgia kill shelter, when I saw her for adoption online! She takes after her dad, and is wonderful! :)
ha, it's funny there was another roxy i applied for but didn't get. then i ended up getting this roxy. she was a handful at first, but now is quite well behaved.
Great work, Staci. It reminds me of why I am so glad to have adopted a rescue basenji and to help BRAT in the small ways that I can to help others live loving, wonderful lives.

It's unbelievable what some people will do to these wonderful companions. Even such a unique, rare and loving breed. It makes me sick.
