  • Guys, think about what your saying. The people in the video Are All Upper-Classmens, Some are "New Money" or "Old Money", But Not everyone in the 1920s didn't live a life like this. Think about the lower clansmen and what THEY are doing. Probably starving and working MORE jobs than people are in the 20th century. Be Happy With What You Already Have, Unless You're like Filthy Rich, THEN You Can Dance The Charlestown

  • omg i have to act as a flapper for my history presentation o_o

  • 3:50. What's that song?

  • That's My Weakness Now

  • i love the 20s and the dancing style! very energetic and fun!! nothing like the horny dance nowadays... and the fashion!! Amazing 20s

  • what is the first song!

  • The early part with the palm trees and the girl with the dress

with the bottle. Is this in California, Hawaii or Florida?

  • It is the Thames river in London, England.

  • @Aaron1912

    Thank You

  • I see our grandparents, greatgrandparents had the world handed to them

I'm considering moving overseas to get away from first world becoming

3rd or 4th world world if you can emagine that. They had freedoms we

    never had and never will.

We were born in the wrong time, that is for sure.

  • Wow, our grandparents had the world handed to them. I'm sitting here in the 2010's working 3 jobs and soon to graduate from college, all while the news keeps telling me that my country is collapsing into a 3rd world country. Well now, times sure have changed! American optimism? More like American MORBIDITY!

  • GREAT AARON..GREAT...!!!

  • oh those mary janes in 1:06 !!!!

  • @cregrobert94 dude shut the fuck up stop being racist

  • what is the song with the haircut

  • You're The Cream In My Coffee

  • @Aaron1912 thanks

  • Song of 4:30 please

  • Don't Be Like That

  • @Aaron1912 thanks

  • People in those days may have been looked down upon by their Victorian parents, but they're still so much classier than today's society...

  • The girl at 5:49 looks just like Charlize Theron.... WILD

  • 3:05 the guys are like >:)

  • Great video. Do you know what they are all grabbing from a big pile at around 1:16? Are those balls ... ?

  • I love this! Like the girl in the hair cut clip, my grandmother got her formerly upper-thigh-length hair bobbed in 1924. She kept what was cut off, like I think most girls did. My grandfather kept it all his life, and now I have it.

  • Great Video! Can you please tell me what the first song is called??

  • Burnin' The Iceberg

  • Would you be kind enough to tell me where you got the music for this video? Stereo versions of 20s and 30s songs are hard to find. I sure would like to buy the CD that this music comes from. Please advise.

    Thanks!

  • The band is called, the Crazy Rhythm Hot Society Orchestra. Their website has many audio samples and CDs for sale.

  • @Aaron1912 Thanks! I visited their website. They got good stuff!

Do you know of The Bratislava Serenaders? They have a website. Their sound engineering is terrible, but the tracks can be fixed. Their style is similar, but they have some great vocals. One album in English exists on amazon.com and iTunes. Check 'em out. You might like 'em, erm... if you have sound editing software.

Thanks again! And hey! Cool video. I have spread it around on Facebook, and emailed it to numerous friends.

  • 1:47

    epic crank lol

  • All the work of the suffragettes went to waste. The flappers took commercial culture as an excuse to live the life their mothers and grandmothers had gotten arrested to allow them to live. It took two generations to repair the damage, and we're still behind the ox: Women get less pay for the same job and can't get an abortion when they don't want the child, despite the fact that today, unlike back then, women are the majority of workers, college grads and the population.

  • TO THE TEACHERS SHOWING THIS TO YOUR STUDENTS... they will NOT pay attention to this video

  • @Yahh698 i did

  • @Yahh698 NOT true ;)

  • @cregrobert94

    Wasn't supposed to be

  • @cregrobert94 just being honest

  • @cregrobert94 I watched this for a project and had forgotten about it until you messaged me

  • I use this clip in some of my US History courses! I love the old footage!

  • I like when the older woman snatches the cigarette from the younger woman and stomps on it- because they are both laughing the whole time. :D

Older Woman: Evil cigarette! *grabs it, stomps on it*

Younger Woman: Hey wtf lol. Imma smoke it anyway. Take that!

Older Woman: Oh, fine. Whatever. *lol*

  • wow

  • Lovely video! But my grandparents aren't QUITE this old xD I think they were still in nappies when most of this was shot.

  • Whores

  • @ThePeterKrpan Yes, and another world war.

  • @cregrobert94 all im saying is that its not like black people werent alive then they couldnt have been just sitting in the corner for those years. and thanks for calling me a genius i appreciate it :)

  • Those apple hussies. LOL

  • @cregrobert94 No my dear psychoanalytically disadvantaged friend, I am not. But I am shocked at the idiocy in the statements made earlier.

  • the dancing was awesome!!

  • i adore the scene with the victorian parents,, o wow,, that was soooooo cool,, they still didnt approve even way back then,, some things never change,, hahaha, coool!lol*)

  • laughs at 4:43

  • My grandmother was a flapper.

  • im going to take a exam on this tommorow :D i think im ready :)

  • so unbelievable sexy :O

  • One nifty keen humdinger! Check out the swell gams on these hip-to-the-jive blottoed dolls, all zozzled on bootleg and hop. It's the bees knees, ...and how! :]

  • Wait, all this looks like big fun.......but where in blue hell are the black people??

    Josephine Baker............ Harlem Renaissance.......Jazz Age..........No?? O ok.

  • Most of this footage was shot in England. Mass immigration into the country didn't started until the 1950's when the British Empire collapsed and Britain tried to survive the aftermath of WW2.

  • @Aaron1912 I dislike it when other people think someone is trying to be racist when its not even the case at all you just didn't happen to put it ! Then you explain it to them and then they don't even care!

  • @ThomondScum im saying it cause you said a weird fucking statement.......bitch

  • @djfakt your annoying

  • @infinitecimal funny...not

  • @Triple3Deuce2 dumbfuck

  • @shawndalakiddio funny...not

  • @65Dart uh no not really

  • @03jerrysmth Does it itch?

  • @7EMERSON9 what??

  • Comment removed

  • @Paddy3443 that was a long time ago...this is about dancing, not dramatic history

  • what's the title of the 3th song (starts at 1:08) please? :D

  • Shanghai Shuffle

  • @Aaron1912 thanks :D

  • I think back to this time : Girl was a girl, man was a man and fun was real fun.. Look at the people today..

  • @GoldenGoldeneye

    So right! :-)

Somehow I get the impression that till maybe the 70s man's "deleopment" went UPWARDS, and from then on just DOWN....ethically, economically, socially, behavior/manners, violent crime, egoism, new inventions just ENDAGERING mankind such as nuclear power, killing of forrests, nautre...just DOWN! Each new generation gets DUMBER nowadays whereas in earlier centuries the mocve was UP!

  • @Chrisspy704 like you?

  • @03jerrysmth to a guy who replied to a comment of mine from 2 years ago; yes, aren't we 99% of non-pornstar humans bushy? I'm just stating the obvious. That and according to an abundance of resources, people before the '50s had poor hygiene customs. Remember, I'm just stating the obvious. But I bet you that no matter how far beyond in time you go, girls were always babes in one way or another.

  • @Chrisspy704 i was just jokin around dude..dont catch a hissy fit

  • @03jerrysmth Where was I catching a hissy fit? Bro I just think that even if the flappers are hot (just like any women from whenever) they were super bushy. Oh well, I'll just do love 20th century style and do the lindy hop/waterdance with one of them.

  • @killshot16 you probably like women today becuase they wear slutty clothes, sparkly make up,or have fake body parts...

  • @f1rew411 i'm alive..

  • @EMesaros nooo..in Your dreams

  • @mauerbluemchen0 i think you need to get off

  • @lojosang get off please

  • @murphyclm theres nothing wrong with 60s fashion..its vintage and vintage is good right?

  • @03jerrysmth I can't find my brilliant comments about this flapper thing or the 60s, sorry. So I'll just say this. People get nostalgic over dumb stuff. I lived through the 60's and I'm thinking right now, big deal, so what, and who cares. The "cool" things people say/do end up being ridiculous. Time just marches on and none of us are that special. People just want to get "free" and show their sorry butts and think they're so hip when they're really just jackasses. It's hilarious.

  • @murphyclm i'm still saying that theres nothing wrong with people dressing how they want to dress

  • @03jerrysmth I think dress codes of some kind are needed in the real world on the job but you can do your own thing in the privacy of your home. To me, there are right and wrong ways to dress in the real world. How you look on the outside can say a lot about you. Again, I'm talking real world.

  • @jlamour like you

  • @sportandmovies whats wrong with that

  • @03jerrysmth iam trying to think of somthing right with it

  • @leftwingnazi like you

  • @bmul125 weirdo

  • @StephHuegi get the fuck off then

  • @Vampirephantome i know right lol..people can be so stupid..

  • @foilseal wierdo

  • @ThomondScum fail

  • @eyyochad but girl is better than soulja boy

  • @sebby7845 same what?

  • @VChapaev you should be nuked

  • @rapper1918 in the 2010s people are reacting the 80s, so people are probably going to be reacting 70s in the 2020s....maybe

  • what I'd give to live back then

  • @Janineperry10 you're 33 and you have an 8 year old sister who wears lipstick? o.e

  • Lady Ga Ga and Madonna wouldn`t have lasted 5 minutes in a piss up with the Flapper girls.

  • What a wonderful time to be rich in the U.S.

    People still had class.

  • @Janineperry10 lol i dont think ur a flapper,

these chicks were called flappers because of their dancing style, they also changed the way morality was viewed, they purposely rebelled against society. they smoked, drank, had plenty of sex. think of it as the old school sluts, or rather "trashy" at least lol high class sluts?

anyway, just cuz u dress like them and talk like in the 1920s doesnt mean you were a flapper, kinda like how u dress with baggy clothes doesnt make u a gangster

    im 17 btw :P

  • @CrimsonRGU Yup :p Would have been great to live back then huh? lol :)

  • @ParadiseDreamer15 lol im not into trashy chicks,

classy is more attractive to me, i dont wnat herpes

  • @CrimsonRGU it's not trashy at all they were just expressing them selves like those japanese school girls are "Kauai" meaning expressive and they have fun barrettes and cute clothes and colors but the thing is flappers were just expressing themselves if you see a flapper now a days and look back then hun, tell me the diff i want to know which is trashier skirts to the knee and cigarettes or skirts to the anus and pot and achol!

  • @MissPureCuteness lol, it was considered wrong/trashy in the 1920s

now and days its like watever.

however the 20s flappers were very promiscuous and drank along with smoking. class my ass haha, always wanted to say that

  • who is the singer? anyone know ? Pete

  • i wish i can be in the 20s

  • @hunttochaos Yeah, it was awsome, wasn't it? Women barely having the right to vote and working for 1/5th the pay of men, mass industry and sweatshops, prohibition of alcohol and the apex of mafia crime and violence, immigration acts inspired by eugenicists, a great depression on the horizon, preceeding the biggest world war in history. The utter excess of the wealthy class (which, if you lived in this time, you probably weren't) was the entire reason the economy collapsed. Golden days, eh?

  • @Zellig get off please

  • @03jerrysmth Off what? Youtube? Don't you yearn for a different age? One where an outlet like Youtube didn't exist? No place for other people to proliferate their thoughts and ideals, starkly different than your own, in a way that might compromise the social/cultural bubble you build around yourself and your children?

  • @Zellig huh??

  • @03jerrysmth If you appreciate the 20s for the fact that is involved a cultural shift that went against the old social norms, I can respect that, though.

  • @Zellig theres nothing wrong with people enjoying the vid...im just sayin

  • 56 people don't have a granny who was a flapper.

  • @099garcia That's kinda disgusting in a way

  • Unless your granny is 110 years old, I doubt she did any of these things :P She was likely in one of the crappy decades that came after. Cool vid.

  • Also the song at 4:22?

  • What's the song at 4:16?

  • That's My Weakness Now. Followed by - Don't Be Like That

  • that kiss song is just too cute :D who did that if I may ask ?

  • @wwefanworld Have you forgotten who invented/modernized the street lights? The same man also invented the gas mask!

If you want a list of more things that "Black" people have contributed to society just look it up online.

We're not just a "white" country. We have many other ethnic groups into this country and you have to accept that whether you like it or not.

Sure, there are many blacks that commit crimes, but white people do it too. America just portrays blacks more than whites.

  • What's the name of the band who play "You're the cream in my coffee" please ?

  • I think it was Graham Dalby and his band.

  • Suddenly, depression in every direction

  • love love this upload thanks a million.

  • Oh how I wish I could go back in time and live in the the 20's :)

  • I like the three girls at 4:16, especially the longhaired brunette

  • whats the name of the song at the begining?

  • love that intoduction hehe. seams times were more social then.

  • love that intoduction hehe

  • wow!

  • hey, guess what they dont show? all the boring parts of life...i think people are romanticizing a little too much

  • @QuitePossiblyANinja Well no duh! It's like making a movie about a war and not including the soldiers peeing. Like writing a book and not including every car that passes by a window that the character didn't look at.

It's the mentality of the '20s. ROARING. Crossword puzzles were big and so was pole sitting, but I am sure you had no clue about that. In history what are people going to want to study, 9/11 or what sandwich was popular and the plants that people were growing? Not the latter!

  • yep, i did know about those two things. and whatever bro, im not about to get into an argument with you over something that happened 90 years ago...

  • @QuitePossiblyANinja

The doorstep to the temple of wisdom is a knowledge of our own ignorance.

    Benjamin Franklin

:) Please don't curse the rest of Youtube with your ignorance. Thank you :)

  • @QuitePossiblyANinja Because you're wrong and you can't defend your point. It's not romanticized, that's just how it was. Sure there were the poor, sure there were bored people. You're trying to make a "more-than clever" remark and are failing. Just stop before you stick your foot farther into your mouth.

  • ES LO MAXIMO ¡¡¡

  • when weed was legal ...gooood times

  • @onetwopussies

And stressing themselves to keep thin by dieting.

  • living in a time where it seems to be a struggle for many people to walk across a room it is nice to see an era of people that had the stamina to work all day in a sweltering hot work place and still have the energy to go out and dance the night away.

  • Lots of butch women in the 1920s. 0_o
