Great video showing a lot of the various versions of "Baby Please Don't Go". I personally have a soft spot for the "Taste" (Rory Gallagher) version and the AC/DC version featuring Bon Scott. Fantastic tune - as shown by the numerous versions.
My favorite is the AC/DC version but you forgot another great version by Ted Nugent...but good video didnt know that many people had done a version of this song.
Big Joe's version is - as they say these days - iconic, but I think Mississippi Fred is just as good. For my money this has got to be a one man job - Dylan does it great- but I don't think it works at all by rock bands.
Have never heard a bad cover of this song. Is it the song? Some say one is better than the other and others claim 'irreverence' to its origin. It is simply a great song.
I'm delta blues fan and player, so nothing beats those versions. That's what i love about those players is how distinct their individual approaches are from one another. All those rock wankers are covering, almost note for note, the quintessential blues rock hit from 1964, by British band "Them". That was albeit a great version, but it's too bad they probably never heard, the original and worked up their own cover. Kudos to "Them" for doing so, otherwise johnwayne said it best...............
is there even a chord change in this song? probably popular because it is as simplistic as they come. doubtless other blues songs have been covered as much.
All these versions are great and as the writer and original artist of the song Big Joe deserves to be the focus of this compilation but surely the most famous and commercially successful version on which AC/DC, Taste etc based their own takes on this classic is the Them/Van Morrison version, a big hit single in the 60s, barely given any recognition in this vid?
and proberley the best version is by gary glitter but people are frightened to admit to liking him any more due to idiots calling them pedo when it is the man himself (gary Glitter) not his songs or music and i stand out and say i loved his records just dont like what he has done but it does not change how i feel about his records

It's too bad you couldn't find a clip of Willie & The Poorboys (Bill Wyman, Ron Wood, Charlie Watts, Jimmy Page, Andy Fairweather Low, Mel Collins, Kenny Jones and Ringo Starr et al) to add to this great compilation. Their arrangement is dynamite. Great job on putting it all together.
First time I ever heard this song was from Ted Nugent. I assumed it was one of his until I heard AC/DC. Then I heard Van Morrison do it and thought he must have been the original artist. It wasn't until the invention of the internet that I discovered how deep the rabbit hole goes...
I played in a Portland punk band called The Inputs back in the late 70's. Our first gig was opening for The Wipers, and this was the first song they played during their set. They had me hooked!!
Hey, my family is just down the road from you. 8 miles west of Columbus. I agree with Woverine84, next to big Joe's later versions Ted did the best cover, that surprises me. Big Joe's 1935 origional wasn't that great,
fucking GREEEAT..i first heard it with AC/DC, then when i discovered theres like a million of covers for the song XD i think tastes version is one of the bests, 'cause his version had a lot of covers, but big joes is great
Rory Gallagher is a great blues player regardless of your ignorant opinion. I never claimed Fred McDowell recorded that version in the 30's. I also have no involvement in any of those "white bands" who recorded it i just compiled this video, and i can't for the life of me figure out why you're so aggressive, grow up.
@padraig314 Interesting compilation. I have one comment: I'm not about to say that Taste, AC/DC, Eric Bell, and Aerosmith never listened to earlier (black) recordings, BUT their versions are all derived from the version by "Them"/Van Morrison - guitar licks, everything.
well i didn't have it at the time so that's why i put it in the apologies but i also realised afterwards that i do have the Doors version on a bootleg cd that i'd forgotten about, i'm considering making a second part.
Spoonful is it? Charley Patton recorded it first and Willie Dixon's is based on that but is quite different. The Cream version is very similar to the Dixon version.
Ten years after did the spoonfull, and the canned heat did it also. But you're right there's no way to get those videos, but thanks for considering the sugestion. Anyway this is beautifull...
This is just too great. Do you thinh you could do the same thing for a song called SPOONFULL: I think it has been covered at least ten times also... I would be gratefull.
Thanks man. Spoonful would be harder to do because apart from the Howlin' Wolf and Cream versions getting a video would be a pain, i don't think there are any video recordings of Charley Patton. Who else did Spoonful apart from the above, Willie Dixon and The Who, did The Grateful Dead do it? That would be six anyway
What about Budgie's version? If you hear their version you'll see where the Aerosmith & AC/DC covers came from.
