  • I can barely play 6....haha:)

  • twelve string guitar sounds awesome

  • i was kinda curious about this 12 string guitar... but i dont know why it have 12 strings :DD if im not mistaken, jimmy page was using a double neck guitar and it have 12-strings on the other neck... can anyone tell me why it needed 12strings? im planning to buy a les paul (yes my first electric :DD) would it be better to buy a 12-string guitar? and just put 6 strings instead of 12?

  • @BlackGhost574 Because songs like The Song Remains the Same and Stairway to Heaven had passages where a twelve string sound was required...

  • Why is this special on a 12 string?

  • Into 12 strings...check out " 12 string guitar fans " facebook page.

  • can anyone tell me if we can actually turn a 12 stringed acoustic guitar into a 6 string one. I know the design and etc etc depends but still. Does anyone has any experience????? Thank you !!!

  • THO TWOLF STRONG GOTOR

  • Thanks! Very useful! Greetings!

  • and we're going to the a minooooooooor!!!!! and we're back home with the d major!

  • Since when did Howie Mandel play guitar?

  • Interested in 12 string guitars...I just started a facebook page dedicated to 12 strings and need input from 12 string players.

On face book search for " 12 string guitar fans " and join in.

    Thanks

  • This man is a fucking nutter...

  • That A maj sus 2 thingy sound very familiar.

  • 0:01

  • All I hear is entering tristram in Diablo 1.

  • @projenna haha...comment of the week :-)

  • @frostkristian yup yup

  • @projenna HAHAHA

  • @projenna haha my thoughts exactly! Diablo 1 rules!

  • you could also call the A sus 2 and A5 (add 9) with an ommited 3rd and 7th lol

  • lol. its so funny how many people hates expertvillage so much. even in their other vids. lol. woot dont hate me. i just noticed :)

  • Howie Mandel teaches guitar about as well as he judges talent

  • Wow..

Made me quiet for a while there..

Dang how can anyone make such music 0.0

I really really want to learn and have that kind of guitar,

    i love it!

  • Expert Village sucks period accidently clicked on this vid w/o knowing it was expert village haha

  • Did anyone else hear the first chord and think about Diablo?

  • what the fuck is this supposed to teach you about playing a twelve string? fuckin retard instuctor

  • "twelff shtring"

  • And I need this bozo's instructions because????

  • I'd like to point out that the A maj and A min suspended 2nd was the same chord.... without the 3rd (C# or C) you can't identify whether it is major or minor, therefore it's just an A sus 2nd.... I hate instructors who don't know basic fucking theory T_T let's get some EDUCATED PEOPLE DOING THESE FUCKING VIDEOS FOR "EXPERT" VILLAGE T_T....

My rating for this video: Expert Fail.

  • man this preview makes it seem playing the 6 string guitar is allready a piece of cake even if you can't even play on it xD

  • this guy is excited in a very intense way

  • Comment removed

  • ok first off, 12 string is same as 6 string. just 1 more set of octave strings added to it. second, chords on a 6 string are the same as a 12 string with octaves added in to give it an extended sound and more full rich sound. third, no beginner guitarists are gonna buy a 12 string anyway unless they are stupid or spoiled rotten rich.

  • @metalhead142 That's not true. I got a cheap second hand 12 string as my first guitar, it was bought for me by my grandfather who was not a guitar player, or rich, and almost totally blind. I liked it but it was as much use to me as a pair of socks on a guy with no feet.

  • @Dave54600 but u do agree it wasnt a good choice for a beginner, correct?

  • @metalhead142 Yes, bad choice. You seem to know your stuff, how and when does a guy decide he is good enough to play on a 12 string?

  • @Dave54600 well i mean its kinda like the same question when people ask when am i ready for the gibson les paul or sg or explorer or dean martin acoustics and what not. my best advice is play around a ton on a normal six string, get more than comfortable with it, use a capo and fool around with it and then once u feel like ur good 2 go (and when u dont mind changing and tuning 12 damn strings) then pick up tht 12 string again and itll sound really good and be fun to play. cheers

  • @metalhead142 I wouldn't say you need to fool around with a capo before you use a 12 string... I've personally never been into capos but I play on a scalloped fretboard (I play electric) so bar chords seem to be able to ring easier (I find that scalloping takes a lot of tension out of the fingers, resulting in easier barring, etc. (after some practise), which would therefore result in a good ring and sustain using bar chords...

12 strings are, for me, plain fun... plus they sound awesome!!!

  • @brossej07 yeah but i was saying that to someone who was just starting out. i was suggesting they do that so itll give them more possibilities and more range and fun of playing like i did. i picked up a 12 string just this year and i already knew how to use a capo and it worked wonders for me and i came up with good material because of it

  • I didnt know Howey Mandel plays a guitar xD

  • its not made 4 finger picking?????

  • @jackassqwe1 Pete Seeger and Roger McQuinn, along with others, seem to manage quite well.

  • Hmmmm is this chat about the guitar or American soaps?????

  • Thumbs up if John Armstrong sucks!

Thanks for not letting me know "How to".

    Professional my ass.

  • This guy really cracks me up!

    Expert Village - LOL!

  • do u just play the chords the same as u would a 6string

  • Why is this video listed as "How to tune...". There's nothing at all about tuning here.

  • @Lynchstah thats what i was trying to say here

  • @Lynchstah ----------------->

  • @Lynchstah It doesn't say anything about tuning in the title.

  • @SinnesterSorrow - It used to, the OP changed it for the very reason I pointed out.

  • @Lynchstah u can read?

    I'll re-type it 4 u

How to Play a Twelve String Guitar : How to Play Suspended Chords on a Twelve String Guitar

  • @Lucer1t0 - LEARN TO READ... as i have already said, "IT USED TO SAY....". Not my fault the guy who posted it did so incorrectly and it stayed that way for quite a while before HE changed it.

Lrn2Read before you make dumbass comments.

  • @Lynchstah its just to fck with you

  • @Lynchstah It's not.

  • @rightwingted - When I made that comment almost a year ago, it was, and it stayed that way for a while before EV changed the title. I've responded to this a number of times.

  • What the??? Where's the 12 string? Where's the tuning???

  • Remove the 'How to Tune' part because you aint tuning shit in this vid.. ? :s

  • Where are your manners???

  • He's not tuning anything is he? so whats your problem.. if you don't like my manners.. don't read my comments anymore please.. 10q

  • @skunksaw it's a series, it's on another video. Please look at the videos with the same title before posting ignorant crap.

  • IIRobertoII why should i look at other videos with the same title, when i'm looking looking at this one, of which the title is INCORRECT!... It might be a series, or on another video, but, because there is NO TUNING IN THIS VIDEO.. my comment shouldn't be read as ignorant crap. So before you post more ignorant crap, mr. roberto, i'd recommend to you, that you know your facts..

  • @skunksaw

    /watch?v=sC0QsROazEc&feature=channel

    Enjoy.

  • @IIRobertoII he also isn't referring to any other videos in the "series" in the description ., and i've noticed that i'm not the only one who is bright enough to see that there is actually no tuning in this video,, so i don't really understand why are you commenting on me?? you should really feel stupid right about now

  • so.... i dont get the video, but is pressing the chords on a 12 string as easy and simple as pressing them on a 6 string??

    or.... what?

  • @StrawhatxLuffy everytime you hold a fret down on a 12 string you are holding 2 strings down at once because a 12 string is a string with another string right underneath it... making it harmonize.

  • yea. hrmm....

i know that there are 2 strings together, but isit easy to press? i mean, compared to the 6 string.

would it require a little more strength or whatever?

    oh and thanks!

  • its fairly easy just takes a little getting used to

  • it was killing me that it was slightly out of tune- not by much, but ive been playing for 5 years and i could notice.

  • Thanks for nothing! jeez

  • its good to see a skin change ideologies

  • this guy seems a lil hopped up. second guitar sounds like shit.... yes i had an instant diablo flash back. and i still dont know if im tuning my fuckin guitar right

  • this sucks such as expertvillage

  • wheres the how to tune it part??

  • i thought the same thumbii =D

  • Bottom 4 are out of tune.

  • no they arent

  • Where to get this bass guitar?

  • OMG! DIABLO SOUND! :D

  • love that old game...

  • LOL! Whoa, that would be totally confusing to me! 12 strings!

  • Its played just like a 6 string =P You hold the strings in pairs. ^_^

  • oh my god this guy knows oh so many chords

  • Professionals know every chord.

  • Its not about knowing chords. once you figure out how chords are made you pretty much "know every chord"

  • xD every chord hmm thats nearly impossible

  • No one knows every chord.

  • Yes, do you know the theory behind forming a chord?

  • I do, yes.

  • then how is there a way you cant figure out any chord, and if your really good as in on the spot.

  • It's not that you can't figure it out. But nobody can PLAY when they want to, without previously learning, all the chords, there are more chords than you can count.

So I suppose you can KNOW all the chords, but can you PLAY them all?

  • Sure why not?

  • there are no more than 2985984 chords.

  • No one likes a smart ass.

  • You think about it, the possibilities may be infinite, it's enticing really, I'm thinking of picking up a 7 string and making that my official instrument to venture from. I honestly don't want to know every cord if I could, there's no fun in this life if you know everything. But then again, think of the resonance you'd be able to make from these beauties. It's like a good shroom trip that you never come down from.

  • Why don't you get an 8 string than? : )

  • @TravisMaxima there are like thousands of chords and each one of them has a bit off an add-on or something Cadd9 or something it will drive you mad if you really knew all chords

  • This is what Kris Kristofferson always does, learned it by listening to him. Just that I didn't know how it's called :D

  • WHAT kind of guitar are you playing i got the same guitar for free but i dont know what brand it is and i really want to know!! plz any1 help me out it you can. thnx

  • its an alvarez 12 string

  • It's Howie Mandel !

  • who is this cat? :D

  • This guy sounds like Nathan Pertrellie from Heroes.

  • Uhm, u can also just do this on a 6 string though =/

  • Yeah, this guy's retarded.

  • @Maten123 yeah even tho u can it sounds pure nd really nice on the 12 though :)

  • @Maten123 sounds better on a 12er

  • @Maten123 uhm, u can also do this on a 12 string=/

  • hes a little out of tune, kind of ironic if hes professional.

  • VicksVids. Its the other way around with the octaves. The thinner strings from the G to the Lower E are tuned up,not down.!!The high E and B are tuned the same..Hope you had a good party with the drinks man!!

  • thanks for the correction :) Yeap it was a great party

  • why bother with the 12 string for the video? its not any different than a 6 string in terms of chords unless theres an alternate tuning

  • lfol

  • Comment removed

  • no.

  • Comment removed

  • there are 12 tuners, beside every normal string theres a thiner string tuned one octave lower, they are thin thats y u cant see them. sry for misspells i made - i'm kinda drunk :p

  • Comment removed

  • the strings are not even a centimeter apart from each other but it is hardly visible

  • Thank you for the Info! Now I realize every thing. Tell me something more please. Is it a double stringed Guitar, because I know that more then 10 strings it's a double strings!?

  • this video has no sense.

  • tunning down opens up a wider vocal range, but nowadays the stress level on the twelves isnt such a factor as say back in the day when you'd tune down because of losing bridges and bending necks.......all of my twelves are tuned standard A-440...I agree , this teacher isnt a 12 string player, and most arent anymore....it's a particular instrument and this lesson lacked anything of value, but he's a decent six string teacher

  • what ?

just ... strumming "suspended" chords ? i mean , it can be done on a 6 string ...

  • no shit sherlock...

  • The very very first chord he plays sounds EXACTLY like the Diablo Tristram. It was probably played on a 12 string.

  • why is this even specified as a 12 string method?

  • where do you Buy 12 string guitar, strings?

  • I learned absolutely nothing at all. Makes me feel better, considering they are experts and all. Guess I am an "expert" too. Maybe I will make a video about guitar. "When you hold your guitar, what you want to do is strum the strings, this will in return, make a note. Then listen to the note and try to make more sounds. Then when you have it, you can now play a note. Congratulations. You SUCK!! Just like us. Thanks for watching. To learn more about being retarded, goto, blah blah blah.....

  • You just fucking blew my mind with knowledge, to think I was trying to make waffles with mine

  • pwned ! lol

  • @DAGSTERZ26 u r fuckin right!!!

  • @DAGSTERZ26 Well here's some more advice : hold your dick in a tight grip with ALL your fuckin' fingers in the palm of your right hand, unless you're left handed, and shove it straight up your fuckin' ass !

  • Comment removed

  • @DAGSTERZ26 It's not MY fault if i'm a Homo after your Dad corrupted my sexuality ,made my asshole the size of a frying pan and gave me A.I.D.S. ; i'm sorry if you didnt know he led a double life.He also made secret guitar tutorial vids showing 12 string guitar techniques whilst fuckin' your Mum in the ass

  • Comment removed

  • @DAGSTERZ26 But you DIDNT listen to him did you son of fag !! Lol

  • Because of the high amount of stresses found in most 12 string guitars, a lot of musicians tune them down either 2 or 4 semitones to D or C, but with the same intervals as your standard guitar tuning. It makes so much sense, but can make things confusing if you are trying to jam with other guitarists.

  • yup . downtuning sounds better , too .

  • 12 strings sound wicked

  • oh i know. i want one so bad....

  • not for beginners

  • why does he say " something cool on 12-string?" u can do that on a 6-string. This isn't exclusive to 12-string or anything. I'd rather appreciate a comparison of sound between 6 and 12 strings.

  • There is a rather large diffrence in sound.. with the 12 string EADG all ahve a lower octave string and a higher resulting a a very thick sound.

  • u suck

  • FAIL

  • do you think it would be a waste of time for me getting a twelve string?? i'm only 13 (14 very soon) and i've been playing for just over two years(not to boast but i'm pretty good). i've never played a 12 string but i love the sound.....and do they play just like a 6 string?? any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • Start fingerpicking songs, like blackbird for example, and get good at those, once you've done that have a go with a 12 string.

  • thanks man!! i'm pretty good at finger picking, the first song i ever learned 100% the way through was Study In A Minor and it's a finger picked classical piece, i can do a few other finger pick songs aswell, thanks for the adivce!!

  • A 12 string is a little tougher on your fingers. Also the scale, at least on my Guild 12 string is much longer than my Les Pauls or PRS 6 string elec. guitars. You need to stretch your fuingers a little more but once you get a bit used to it 12 string guitars sound so nice. I would say go for it. If within n a couple years you got good on a regular 6 string you ought to be able to play a 12 string. Try a few models before you comit to one. Good luck !

  • thanks man!!! i'm away tonight to try one at one of the two music shops in my city. i've been playing a lot of acoustic sort of stuff lately so i'm just gonna give that a go on the 12 string! yet again thanks!!

  • hey dude, it plays like a 6 and sounds great, but it takes twice as much to change strings and three times longer to tune it. mabey you find a video on here where they show you how to tune and not a bunch of bullshit suspension cords like this dude is trying to do, this guy sucks... if you want a 12 string get a fender, they sound great....

  • thanks a lot for the info but, i tryed one out just a few days ago, it was a Yamaha APX700-12 and it was awsome!!! i like it just as much as my Gibson SG if not more. but the sound is absolutely amazing! so i'm definatley going for one! thanks again buddy! :)

  • i'm 12, started playing just before christmas and never had a lesson but am stillpretty good. i never played a 12 string but really want one so........ they're just 6 string with the strings doubled. meaning its tuned EEAADDGGBBee

  • well, it's more like EeAaDdGgBbehigher-e because, normally, they are tuned not the same, but the "doubled up" strings are one octave above.

  • its actualy eEaAdDgGBBEE

  • DdasDagdGdfdgsdSa

  • I got one when I was your age for 100 buks. I played it a lot, then got serious on the classical guitar. Chances are you'll prolly get bored of it and just play a six string later. unless you get really good at it!

  • Where is the tuning?

Change the title please to something accurate.

  • this guy is talking bullshit, instead of showing how to tune 12 string guitar he is bullshiting ,idiot should shut the fuck up and show how to tune, am I right ? or wrong, his lecture is very boring . Ilove playing guitar and also listen to the others playing, certainly not this kind of crap.sorry someone has to speak out

  • I totally agree........this may be the most boring 2:12 my life will ever see.

  • goolie gee what a genious

  • this guy is a pro?!...theres 2:11 of my life I'll never get back...geez!

  • He's a professional guitar instructor!

    HOLY SHIT

  • Holy Crap.. What does this Rubbish have to do with "TUNING" a 12 string... If i wanted sus chords and tonic scales and stuff thats what i would of searched... Title these videos right you muppets.

  • omg

  • He is made out of plastic.
