@sregnathan Why? Our carnatic system is based on relative positions of the swarasthanas and not like the absolute pitch system of western classical. In general most violinists tune to 2.5 - 3 kattai for solo concerts. Lalgudi sir has his own sound that makes him distinctly recognizable when you hear a concert of his.

Indian music is well honored & celebrated for its great melodic complexity, within which forms Carnatic musicians in both classical & contemporary styles have the incentive & opportunity to range according to their artistic skill, creativity & passion. This helps make Indian musicial expression ever subtly evolving & maturing, rewarding new artists while paying homage to past masters. Its a rich & varied tradition that encourages individuality.

there is no universality in tuning carnatic violin...everyone according to them....this must be changed...some one to take initiative...
