I hate this version, if I wanted to hear Patty sing I'd buy her CD. She is such an attention whore. LOVE the Boss, even before that witch came along.....my ears bleed when I hear her in the background.. omg I hate IT!~! am I the only one?? The first time I saw E Street she was not a part of it....if I werent such a loyal fan Id never buy or go see him again but alas, ive been going for 30 years...I just tune her OUT
Stevie came on for the encore at the English gigs and Bruce would say The whole family is here now. Went to 5 of them and they were awesome, even celebrated my 21st Birthday around Wembley Saturday and then Leeds on the Sunday- Such Glory Days!
4:17 Clarence spinning got me through my whole crappy day of work today. Just kept on visualizing that and the song and was like F this place...life is good!
Those of complaining about Scalfia's vocals either don't know shit about music/sound mixing or just don't like her.
If you're referring to her vocal at 3:30, she's actually on key but her part is just ONE of several harmonies (that are heard on the original recording) and so it sounds awkward or "off" since she's singing [them] all alone.
It also doesn't help that her vocal mic is mixed (onstage) pretty high making her note seem even more "out there."
GREAT SONG BUT PATTI DESTROYED THE BACKGROUND VOCALS !!!!!!! GOOD HEAVEN !!!!!!!!!!!!! I THINK SHE IE HOT AND ALL BUT SHE SHOULD PROBABLY STAY TO BRUCE;S LEFT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@joecas61 Finally someone said that..but she's always going to be in the band..she's bruce's wife...she's recomended!!!!!!!!!!! Long live the boss and the houserockin' e street band!
Bruce Springsteen is the BEST ENTERTAINER of our time,, and he deserves a LifeTime Achievement Grammy award,,even though he still entertaining..lets recognize this enormous talent and thank God for giving him to our generation !!!! Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce
Not that we don't like her, she is just not that great of a singer. What are we supposed to be jelous of not being that great of singer or singing out of tune. As my dad says she tries and is a good wife
The other thing that i liked about this was the choreography, Tthis is 25 years ago -would I swap Soozie Tyrell's vocals for Patti's ..no Patti's are raw and different-call them off key if you like. My other memory of this fantastic song was that at Wembley, between the first verse and the second Bruce turned to his own image on the Big Screen and shouted "Hey You". Check it out on the (audio only)recording of the Independence day Concert.
Out for the night with my old friends... the guys gonna take the city... Gonna start just in the place where I'll miss you more... 8888k... when I am in the street, girl... well I can even feel alone...
Bruce puts on a good show but I don't care about cars, badlands or the landscape he thinks he writes so well about. But I love Out on the Street and Atlantic City and Hungry Heart and Glory Days .. usually just one song a record. So you see one doesn't have to be pro-boss or anti-boss .. one can just like a few of his songs and live a normal life and then go back to the truly great artists - such as Neil Young (66 to 1980), The Replacements (1881-91).
@wafflecrisp25 I never bought the River. I had his 1st 2 but was turned off by the over-produced break-through Born to Run (sick of that song after 10 listens) and Jungleland. I think the River is better as it has Out on the street and the great hungry heart and The River is a good song ..
@wafflecrisp25 Of fuck I am repeating what I said a month ago but at least you know I am giving my honest assessment. also, Cadillac Ranch is just OK, imo. I generally just like one or two songs from every CD and I have seen his energetic act in person. I really like Atlantic City a lot but the rest of Nebraska I'm not sure if I like. Tunnel of Love is also great.
@wafflecrisp25 Not sure if my other ramblings are getting through..HA. If you have anything to recommend , sure I am open-minded but it's not as if I don't know a lot of Bruce..also I love Lonesome day .. great imo, but not the song The Rising or the most of that record..
@wafflecrisp25 I sometimes think "did Little Steven write much or at all with Bruce"?. I think Steve is a good writer and kept Southside Johnny from fading away. Also I like Dancing in the Dark.
@heeler101 Little Steven left the band before Born in the USA album and tour. Bruce decommissioned the band in 1989 and gave each member $ 2 million severance pay. He recommissioned the band in 1999 and Little Steven rejoined the band. In the mid-nineties, the band came together temorarily to record some cuts for an album Bruce was putting together. All during the nineties there was speculation as to IF the band would reform. Thank God it did.
Steven was busy whit his solo album- remenber "Bitter Fruits"?- later her in 1999 he joined the E-streetband again- now also including Nils Lofgreen, who replaced Steven on the Born in the USA tour 1984-1985
@heeler101 but he did guest on some of the encores in Britain the week after. I was lucky enough to see him come out and do Two Hearts,Twist and Shout/Do You Love Me? at the end of the 4/7/85 set at Wembley Stadium..it was magic..
@heeler101 Stevie left the band in 84... that's when Bruce Brought Nils Lofgren in... He also wrote that song Bobbie Jean for Stevie and released it on Born in The Usa...his goodbye to stevie... stevie went solo and then came back on the reunion tour.... damn Bruce is so young looking here ...LOL
That's kinda funny about the list that's "long" concerning "brain dead entertainers." Any idea why the list is so long? 'Cause a bunch of brain dead politicians got the U.S. into the Iraq war, that's why. Despite many U.S. retired generals telling us not to. Despite the world telling us not to. Entertainers aren't dumb and lot of them echo what most sane people are thinking. That "war" will mess up the U.S. and Iraq for decades.
I am not a big fan but I really like about 10 songs by the Boss and this is one of the ten. He really taps into something .. perhaps my mind. I'm not sure.
Max is not the drummer Moon was but he is one of the very best.
I love the damage Max does with that little drumset, good example 1:02-1:08,you see these huge drumsets like Tommy Lee,Neal Peart,Keith Moon & others,I Know Moon needed a big set to fit his dynamite,so are those huge sets actually needed?Max seems to do all right the the wal-mart special,I know it's not a wal-mart special, just kidding, some drum expert might let me have it
you don't need a huge drumset to sound good. you need talent, and max surely has a lot of it. though the beats are not too complicated, he just got a certain style that is remarkable and awesome.

bruce is graet the 1st time i seen him was at the capital theather in passaic,n.j. way back in 73 or 4 it's been so long i can't remember the date, yes Patti is a great wife and mom but she has no musical talent, listen to trapped from vancover and all the other songs without her bruse doesn't need her up on stage he was great before and will be after,Dylan.Springsteen,Billy Joel and the beatles ect.are great song writers, yes i no if i'm not mistaken,Bruce didn't write trapped
I beg to differ,,Patti has plenty of musical talent and writes awesome songs as well,,geesh this tape is 25 years ago ...when Patti and Bruce do a duet like Tougher then the Rest or Kingdom of Days,,Brilliant Disguise etc it is awesome!! I guess it is a matter of opinion and musical taste..In my opinion she is very talented musically !!! GO Patti !!!! And Yes Bruce wrote Trapped.
U know Patti plays guitar? 4 sum reason she doesn't on this tour but he needs her on stage. She was at every Bruce Show I've ever been to and she has a lot of talent listen 2 her voice. She's a better singer than Bruce
Steve van Zandt was doing a radio show in tower records in Dublin the day after he played at the rds an a man behind us said that he's seen Bruce at least 200 times and that the show in Dublin was the first outside of America and his first show was during the River tour! If I had the money I would do it but I don't cos I'm only 14! btw love Bruce
GO-GO-GO BIG MAN !!!THE GREATEST sax player EVER!!! Out on the street on a summer nite with your favorite girl makes a man feel TEN FEET TALL!!!! THANX BRUCE!!!!
But he's not talking to the audience. He's "preaching" to his audience. He needs to shut the fuck up and sing. At $100 a ticket for around 3 hours of entertainment, it racks up pretty quick when he's droning on about the Iraq war and his hatred for Bush. All of these brain dead entertainers need to shut it. Bono and Sean Penn are two more assholes who need to shut it. Tom Morello is another. The list is long.
You know ... I still think that Billy Joel is the better musician, because I grew up on Billy and admittedly have only listened to a handful of Bruce's songs. But it's quite clear that no one, bar none, can ever be better than he is live. Ever. I think now I can finally tell people that I know why he's called the Boss.
Geez...did I really like this dreck in college? I hate to say this and I know I'll be crucified, but folks, if you get a bit beyond the aw-shucks corn-pone lyrics, you'd find a very slick and very calculating A/R team behind this man. Did you know that Born in the USA was the beneficiary of the most expensive marketing campaign in the history of recorded music? To this day no other artist has recieved this treament and likely never will.
Maybe you should take your criticism elsewhere. There are massive amounts of people around the world that like Springsteen--and I doubt that it's for naught. I believe he's one of the most talented musicians of our time, and that the fame he now has is well-earned.
That aggressive marketing campaign you speak of was only enacted because they knew they could make money off of it. No doubt they took in more money from albums sales than they spent on marketing. And you know why they sold so many albums? Because it's good music that people want to listen to!
There is no one better then the Boss. this songs like most makes you feel emotion down to your soul. If you have busted your back to make a buck then this songs is for you.
Patti sucks at singing? you're out of your mind. Listen to "Trapped." Same concert and everything. Paris 85. Listen to her during the chorus. k? thanks
Patti is the best thing that has happened for Bruce..period.. They have a family together and have built a life. No wonder people commented on the Chemistry that was there in'85... I think it is still there musically and in the life they have together.
I hate this version, if I wanted to hear Patty sing I'd buy her CD. She is such an attention whore.

Because he's AWESOME.

I believe he's one of the most talented musicians of our time, and that the fame he now has is well-earned.
rchelsea90 3 years ago 6
That aggressive marketing campaign you speak of was only enacted because they knew they could make money off of it. No doubt they took in more money from albums sales than they spent on marketing. And you know why they sold so many albums? Because it's good music that people want to listen to!

Patty is the BEST thing that has happened to Bruce and E Street Band !!!
ILoveLucyE68NY 3 years ago
Patti is the best thing that has happened for Bruce..period.. They have a family together and have built a life. No wonder people commented on the Chemistry that was there in'85... I think it is still there musically and in the life they have together.
vsibirsky 2 years ago 9
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Patti is a bad lead singer.
She should just stick to backing vocals.
