  • the idea that by our own effort we can completely avoid sin, is a delusion.

  • @applehill How is he using intimidation?

  • Yet another head smart not God smart preacher. Jesus was being loving enough to tell you what it's going to take to follow him. This guy is doing what so many others do. They use a fear and condemnation to bring the congregation back into line. It's preaching like this that causes so many mean spirited people in restaurants on Sunday. They can't help it. People like this have been feeding the sheep bitter fruit. This guy is teaching religion and not the gospel of Jesus.

  • Platt is in NO WAY saying you are saved by works. Not sure where some people are even getting that. He is teaching from the Bible which says the only way to the father is through the son. What he's saying is that if you are not willing to give up EVERYTHING to follow Christ then you are not worthy. Actually, Christ says it...so hate that if you want...argue with Christ about it.

  • the gospel is more than just believing in Jesus. the gospel is also a call to repentance. we could not repent if Christ had not died but if we do not repent then we are not saved. repentance is at its core turning from a life of disobedience to God (sin) to a life of obedience. you cannot do it without grace but if you think you are going to get into the Kingdom of God by just agreeing with some statements about Jesus you are going to be radically challenged by the Word of God.

  • if your faith doesn't result in obedience to God then its not the kind of faith that will save you. the gospel is not free. it costs you everything. stop preaching this false gospel of grace without repentance, holiness, surrender, obedience. read the WHOLE BIBLE not just a few passages.

  • @stevenug You do realize this is the very argument that split Catholics and protestants 500 years ago. There still is an endless argument within protestantism. I get what madhack is saying and I agree. The gospel is what Christ has done for us so that we may be saved, now if we must also add to that work, through our obedience its no longer grace but merit (romans). But if we trulely believe we will be regenerated an naturally do good works as a result 9NOT CAUSE) of salvation.Big difference

  • @madhackertu "Faith without works is dead." "Show me your faith without your works and I will show you my faith by my works." -From the book of James. Works has nothing to do with your salvation. But they have everything to do with your identity. If you are truly saved by Christ, and following him with all your heart, body and soul, you will not be like a man who is given a gift and buries it (doing nothing). Instead you will be a man who multiples that gift by your works..done through Christ.

  • What people fail to realize is that Jesus Christ was doing nothing more than convicting people of their sins. He was telling people how perfect you have to be on your own. Jesus is trying to hint to us, we can't do it on our own. He is wanting us to realize that the way we have salvation is through faith. We want a "1,2,3 steps" way to be saved. There is only one way, and that is faith in God, faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus demanded perfection to point out we couldn't do it on our own. We need him

  • @TheNatureBoyWooooo You are right on, brother. It is a false gospel that says we have to work at achieving something. The true gospel is the cross, and resurrection of Christ, and our partaking of it, as outlined in Romans. Only if we are spiritually reborn and have His Spirit, then He perfects us in Christ.

  • @pegcage But also to add on to what the Gospel does, is through regeneration and realization of the love He has for us, we desire to be with Jesus we desire to lay down our life for Him. The works are not a means to, but a result from. Every day I draw closer and closer to God through his love for me. Every day I die more and more to self. Until on that day when I cross over, I will have given up everything.

  • What I got out of this was God wants us to put him above everything else including our families. If Jesus told that man not to even say goodbye to his family obviously spreading the good news of Christ is more important than anything else including our loved ones. People are dying everyday and going to hell and we just sit around and just except it. We have to GO out and proclaim.

  • I'm sorry but this guy has a twisted scripture pin on his uniform.

  • @madhackertu you obviously have not read the bible

  • @btowndk Excuse me? Is salvation a free gift or not? The gospel demands NOTHING! You SHOULD do good works because of your salvation/faith. This is nothing more than legalism in disguise. If you think what this guy says is 100% correct then I feel very sorry for you. "If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10.9)." If you don't do good works, you won't (m)any rewards in heaven however.

  • @madhackertu I have read his book and he is not saying that we have to work for salvation.

  • I wanna study under this guy!

  • There's a fine line between indulging yourself and providing for your family. As long as Dr. Platt is doing what God is calling Him to do, then he's doing the right thing. If he's telling you something that convicts you or makes you feel guilty, then maybe you should examine your relationship with Christ.

  • What an incredible book. God is surely with him. I pray for those who have twisted Gods word in to the prosperity gospel. Bottom line is, are you (willing) to let go of everthying for the sake of Christ? Jesus wants to strip away what you hold nearest to your heart, if it is not Him. Love God and go share His love with others to the ends of the earth, even if it means dying to yourself and everything you hold dear. This is the Gospel.

  • Pretty sure he's not telling us to give up our families.

  • Platt is living the American Dream with this skimpy guilt-driven book. His theme is works oriented. He is negative toward his Christian brothers and sisters (who died and put him in charge?), and he has not given up everything himself. So he moved into a smaller house! So what? Big deal. He leads a plush life. I guess he and I have different views of "radical". I would recommend you read the Bible...God is watching.

  • @theviewin And have you done that which you knock Platt for? Sell your home to move in with the lonely or open it up to the homeless? Have you given up steak dinners in order to feed hot meals to the hungry? Have you sold your car to buy a van, which you can transport the disabled and ill to their appointments? I cannot accuse or judge you for idleness just as you shouldn't condemn Platt for what is unknown to you. This isn't productive for either of us; it's only negative.

  • @theviewin everything he preaches is on is drectly from the Bible. I don't understand where you are coming from?

  • The Gospel doesn't demand /anything/

  • he is hitting some totally relevant important themes in his book. The passage about where he talks about the baptist church spending 23 MILLION dollars on there new sanctuary and then the send a stingy 5 THOUSAND dollars to people in sudan who are starving to death!! while we are nice and comfortable with out stuff and jesus takes a backseat and gives us a nice moral compass to our fake lives.. He hits the nail on the head, great stuff and challenging!! every believer should read RADICAL.

  • @insidapc my friend, I'm afraid for you. When Jesus died on the cross, he was not dealing with the torment of the Roman soldiers; he took upon the whole entire wrath of God, his infinite wrath that belonged to us sinners. He took it all. Can you even remotely imagine taking Gods whole wrath? No! Jesus did something so intense for us up on the cross, that He deserves so much more than a little prayer and some church attendance. I have so much more I could say, just read his book! He says it bett

  • For those saying that Matthew spoke of no such radicalism, they might want to read Matthew chapter 10. Especially verses 37&38, which gives us a similar, though slightly different version of what Luke recorded: "anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me." (NIV)

  • He is totally missing the point... By his line of reasoning, we should all ditch our children and become preachers. He advocates pursuing God for the selfish reward of being in his presence. Not, being empowered by the holy spirit to help others, like your family and those in need. God sustains Jesus, Jesus sustains us, we sustain our children. Therefore, God sustains us all. We must play our part. That is sacrifice. Not running away from helping your family.

  • Why don't Matthew and John speak of this radicalism?... Read your bibles. Luke and Mark were not of the twelve hand picked apostles. This man, though possibly well intentioned, is being mislead. Do not follow him. Follow Jesus.

  • If he understood what the bible teaches, he would be teaching what he has been taught, not going off and starting his own self-serving, bible-twisting crusade. This man is dangerous folks. To himself and to others. He wants you to read HIS book. Not THE book... Tell your pastors to warn of this man.

  • Somebody explain the bible to this kid...

  • You keep reading from Luke... are you aware that Matthew and John were two of the twelve hand-picked apostles? Mark and Luke were not... Didn't Constantine, a man, compile the books of the bible... hmmm? Matthew and John do not tell of such radical following. Jesus explains, it is merely more difficult to not become attached to material things when you have an abundance of them. The poor give freely, because they are more unattached.

  • The fact that he is where he is, even with his speech issue, is a testimony to Gods grace and power! :)!!!! I love this book. God said that us Christians would look like foolishness to the world :D<3!

  • @generalcarver so youre telling me that because Jesus said these things so long ago, it doesnt apply to us now? if thats true, then everything weve ever been taught is a lie. i dont understand.

  • Either he has a speech issue... or he is either slightly high or drunk.. This guys is pulling all the stories in mark out of context. you should look at them as history. Most of Christ's responses and demands on the disciples were for them at that time. Not you and me in 2010. He is preaching partial truth. I wouldn't be surprised if he is stoned. Probably to calm down. This is just the latest flavor of church programs to make money. Read your bible, stay clear of this guy.

  • @generalcarver he has a speech issue. he is the best of the best.

  • @generalcarver They are not for us today only if you want to hack the Bible into parts.

  • They are not for us today only if you want to hack the Bible into parts.

  • These new leaders are telling us about the Holy Spirit revival we have prayed for...are we willing to pay the price?

  • If we know that we are going to be judged (Matt 25), then why are we inactive?

  • Amen!

  • Sounds like the type of crazy bullshit that says if God kills our children we should thank him for it.

    nty

  • @Thekevinmillershow

Not thank him bro. just accpet the fact that there is something to learn form it and that he willed it and that there was a reason

  • @SlappyGee I'm good. You can thank him for it, I'll just accept the fact that someone who can destroy families and rip loved ones from each other is not very good. Maybe all seeing and all powerful, but not good.

Have fun with your tyrant god.

Btw i don't think he is real anyway so don't bother asking me who id prefer to grovel before.

  • @Thekevinmillershow

ok you can look at it that way.. but what have any of us done to deserve families or loved ones in the first place? anything you answer to that which will be minimal will be something God did for you. You are saying that God is allowed to give us things but not take them away? I don't get that I guess...

  • @Thekevinmillershow

And this criticism is coming from someone whose "show" is basically comprised of ypu getting half naked with other men and trying to get on top of them? No offense but I'll go with David Platt.

  • @MrNickKane

I'm sexually secure, that comes with introspection and not following the scribblings of desert goat herders as if it were the word of God. Being sexually secure I am free to grapple in a manly fashion and test my mettle. Get on my level.

  • Praying the truth the Holy Spirit has revealed will continue to radically change this lost and dying world!!Thank you for your obedience...you are in my prayers!!

  • What an awesome book and an awesome God we serve! Praise His name for He is worthy to be be praised.....As the Apostle Paul said "Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ." Phil 3:8 ESV Thanks for sharing this wonderful truth! God bless.

    Your brother in Christ,

    Mike
