C- Carlton Fisk-Original Pudge 1B- Lou Gehrig-Iron Man 2B- Jackie Robinson- Tough in adversity SS- Cal Ripken Jr- New Iron Man 3B- Pete Rose- Charlie Hustle OF Ted WIlliams- Went to WWII in his prime OF TY Cobb- sharpened his spikes! OF Roberto Clemente- Only nice guy on the list DH- Babe Ruth- Not tough but a legend SP- Bob Gibson- Toughest MLB player ever.
I am convinced Nolan Ryan juiced and got out before all the shit went down. Bob Gibson pitched the finest season in all of major league history in 1968. Tom Seaver over Satchiel Paige hands down. I am old enough to have seen both of the these guys pitch, not just on TV either.
Pedro Martinez in 2000, Greg Maddux in 1994 and 1995, Walter Johnson in 1913, and that's just going by ERA+.
Yes, I know that Gibson's ERA was 1.12, and yes, I know that seems incredible. The National League hit just .243 and OPSed just .641. The average NL ERA was 2.99. There is a reason why Gibson has this ultra-low ERA but just the eighth greatest ERA+ ever. If you adjust Gibson's stats to the 2000 Boston Red Sox that Martinez played for, the stats don't look as great.
he may have been an asshole but he knew how to play the game he was a better hitter, stole more bases and was voted to the hall of fame over Babe Ruth now that's incredible.
Gotta get Nolan Ryan and his no hitters in there (along with beating charging batsmen half his age into the ground) Ken Griffey JR, Joe Morgan, Randy Johnson, Bruce Sutter, and for show and tell..... Al the mad hungarian Hrbowsky
Great picks man, I agree with most...but my opinio and everyone elses shouldn't matter...this is YOUR all time team, and no one should disagree with you, ya know what I mean? GREAT PICKS!!!
Good list, and I like how you chose outfielders properly according to position: Williams in left, Mays in center and Clemente in right, instead of just putting in 3 outfielders regardless of where they specifically played. Ruth would be awesome as a DH. If I had to put in someone who really played in the DH area and was DH, I could put in Edgar Martinez, Paul Molitor of Frank Hurt.
Just two comments:
1. Pete Rose played 2nd only at the start of his career.
Decent list. I can't really do too much complaining, even if they weren't the same players I'd pick. The one thing I will say is you should forget about picking legitimate right, center and left fielders and just pick the best three outfielders. It's too hard to choose between Mays and Mantle, so just take both of them.
My all time team would have 1B-Lou Gehrig or Albert Puhols 2B-Joe Morgan or Roberto Alomar ss-Cal Ripken or Derel Jeter 3B-Brooks Robinson or George Brett lf-Hank Aaron or Ted Williams cf-Mays or mantle rf-Frank robby or Clemente c-Johnny Bench or yogi berra Pitchers only 5 needed. Koufax,Gibson,Palmer,Seaver,Eckersley. manager-Weaver or Sparky designated hitter Babe Ruth or Barry Bonds
of any team in the majors, and it wasnt even close.Had he not stopped Bench,Rose,Perez,Lee may,Hal Mcrae,Helm,Concepcion,Tolan,Carbo, and the rest of the big red machine they would have made that series a slugfest, but Brooks great defense turned 5 run innings into zero run innings. While on offense he hit 400 with a series 5 game record for total bases and rbi's.The phillies won the world tital this year without Mike Schmidt, the Orioles are so pathetic since Brooks retired they finished last again.
Mike schmidt was great no question,i just think defence is under rated in baseball and yes schmidt was a great defensive 3rd baseman. But Brooks Robinson wasin the words of Casey Stengel "The best clutch hitter in baseball" from 1960 to 71.Look at his RBIs almost 1400,same as Schmidt or very close???His Rbis were mostly clutch Rbi's,6th inning all.Schmidt got alot of Rbis hitting 3 run dingers. How about this statistic, from 1958 to 1975 when Brooks Robinson was at third, his team won the most games
Brooks rob inson makes one of his increable plays pn the first inning with the bases loaded and one out, turning a potential 3 run double into a 7-4-3 doubleplay inning ended. If he dosnt rob the other team that hit may have resulted in a ten run inning! We'll never know? But if you make an error that prolongs an inning like Bill Buckner or the bartman fiasco, look at how one error can cause a team a championship?Yet Alex Rodriguez is a notorious choke artist in Big games only drives in the pile ons.
Baseball you win with pitching and defence, give meBrooks Robinson at 3rd base and u can have Mike Schmidt.Brooks play at the hot corner is shut down 100%,nobody could bunt or hit the ball by him,and when you see what he did in the 1970 world series to the Big red machine he did this for 23 seasons. When you make a great defensive play it dosnt show up in the boxscore, but when you make an error it does.Brooks makes a great game saving defensive play so often the Team he played for won 90-100 game
okay i agree that Brooks was the best defensive thirdbaseman ever to play the game but Mike Schmidt was no slouch, he did win 10 Gold Glove awards at that position and had a bigger bat
mine would be Sp-Koufax,walter Johnson,Bob feller C-bench 1b-Gehrig 2b-Robinson SS-Wagner Lf-Clemente Cf-mantle rf-nelie Fox or XXX Reliver -Eckersley -hoyt wilhelm -Lefty groove closer wierd but Bob gibson
right now, at this time and age,any team, can beat any allstar team from the xx century, in that age didnot exist the rivals and all the tecnologic to know the players, the baseball sports is in evolution, if you whant to know what type of evolution i am talking, just see vladimir guerrero strong, arm, swing, and other is A-Rod, his swing is the best swing ever
I would have Yogi Berra at catcher, Jackie Robinson at 2nd, Honus Wagner at Short, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Ty Cobb as out fielders. Nolan Ryan, Walter Johnson, and Christy Mathewson at starting pitching and put Paige an Seaver as Relivers and Trevor Hoffman as closer insted of Mariano Rivera. Drop Eckersley, Goose Since they both are closers and put Dizzy Dean, Lefty Grove and Warren Spahn and Bob Feller. That Would be my team.
sorry Rickey Henderson is the base running king but anyway....
Roberto Clemente has exactly 3,000 hits not over
Babe Ruth has 714 home runs not 715
Honus Wagner should be the Short Stop and....
ROGERS HORNSBY should but the 2nd baseman....Hornsby only had 9 long and healthy seasons and he still ended his career with 2,930 hits, he also had 301 home runs (impressive for a 2nd baseman) and a batting average of .358 and got 200 or more hits in a season 7 times, batted over .400 3 times!
good video but your missing an AMAZING player........TY COBB!
Pete Rose had to stretch out his career in order to pass up Cobb in career hits. Cobb's still the best ever at getting base hits and running the bases, He also had a batting average of over .300 for 20 (100 or more game)seasons of his career, stole home plate 54 times, got 200 or more hits for the whole season 9 times, won 12 batting titles, has 724 career doubles, 295 career triples and was the first player to reach 2,000 runs.
Everyone who is worrying about Nolan Ryan not being on the list is retarded howsa bout the fact that Ty Cobb is not on the list..... He has the highest lifetime batting average ever with .367 he is 2nd all time in hits. Also in the last two games of Ty's Career he switched his split hand grip to holding the bat normally at the end of the handle and he hit 5 home runs in 2 games, He holds 12 batting crowns and stole 96 bases in a season... And this man is not in your top all time outfielder list
would definilty have nolan ryan in starting line up, and goose gossage isnt even in the top 20 in all time saves, what about trevor hoffman or billy wagner
I just thought of Goose as a better pitcher than the other two. Gossage pitched 2 or 3 inning saves, so that stat is a little misleading in my opinion.
Song sucks. Your an idiot. No wait you were a waste of nut. That's right your dad didn't mean for you to even happen. That is why we all got fucked. Because he couldn't find a size small enough to cap his tip. Oh wait that is you...fuckin tard.
Dude you seriously have some problems because you waste your time trashing my vid. please get a different hobby. If you don't care what I think, do you really think I care what you think? I hate all you cock suckers who devote their lives to tell everyone that he is god. I disagree. big deal. go cry about it, you moron.
Who in the hell cares what you think? I don't. You don't put Nolan Ryan in and your intelligence is shown. Your not the one who picks the best. The best are in the hof. Um yeah Ryan got elected. No matter what you thought. Your insignificant. And your vid is ameature at best. Grow a brain before you make another vid. Then you won't get hassled because you forgot somebody. If he wasn't so good then so many of us wouldn't fuck with telling you that your an idot for not puttin him in it!
OK??? So you don't see anything or any reason to put Nolan Ryan in this? Lol you must be the dumbest prick in the history of youtube vids. Dennis Eckersly!! Your a joke man. Nolan Ryan is the best pitcher in the history of the game. Fuck stats. Fuck you. I'll bet he could still out pitch half of the league till this very day you idiot.
nolan ryan only won about half of his games... not only does he hold the strikeout record, but he holds the walks record. when he was on, yes... he was damn good, but he wasnt always on.
great list but you know every1 has to argue something lol love bob gibson but...nolan ryan? im still thinking bout shortstop...it would help if there were clips of honus wagner
gtown: Nice job, but here is the correct list: (SP) Cy Young, Walter Johnson, Sandy Koufax, and Bob Gibson. (Roger Clemens would be there, but for that little issue). (RP) Dennis Eckersley, Mariano Rivera (C) Johnny Bench, (1B) Lou Gehrig, (2B) Rogers Hornsby, (SS) Honus Wagner, (3B) Alex Rodriquez, (OF) Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Willie Mays. (DH) Ted Williams (Bonds makes it if performance enhancement athletes are allowed).
Here's the justification for Rogers Hornsby: lifetime ave of .358 is second only to Cobb, and highest in NL. He batted .424 in 1924. He won two triple crowns. Over a 5 year period, he AVERAGED .402. Now, granted, batting averages from that era need to be discounted somewhat, but Hornsby won seven NL batting titles. So, forget about the actual batting average number, he nevertheless was the best hitter in that era. No other second baseman can make that claim. And he also hit 301 hrs.
Good choices, only thing I would change might be to tailor the infield a little more towards defense. I'm thinking Brooks Robinson at 3b, Joe Morgan at 2nd, and Ozzie Smith at SS (although I'm biased towards The Wizard because he's my favorite player).
Brooks was heavily considered by me, but Schmidt was definately not a bad defender; he won 10 Gold Gloves in his career and had better power numbers than Brooks. I can't believe you're talking about Cal, defense was one of his best attributes. I can kind of understand Rose. I needed some place to put him, and 2nd seemed like the most logical of all the places he played.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on Cal, I loved the guy and you're right, he was a good defender. However the fact that he only hit over .300 four times in his career hurts me. If we want the perfect blend between offense and defense, I'd go with Barry Larkin in his prime. He was always overshadowed defensively by the Wizard in the NL, and if we're looking at your team as an actual team, you'd need a leadoff hitter. I know he got injured a lot, but on pure ability he's the best in my book.
i would have probably gone with rogers hornsby for 2nd base. way better average than even the best 2baseben, and in todays league he would have hit for at least 20 more homers
I just started a baseball league right here on youtube. all the greatest players from their respective teams as well as negro league all stars and AMGPL(LEAGUE of their own) female players, all playing against each other. check out my vids
You pick a tough team, but I gotta have Brooks at third, and Koufax on the mound.

Roberto Clemente is the best!!!!
yahriel1210 3 years ago
Good list, and I like how you chose outfielders properly according to position: Williams in left, Mays in center and Clemente in right, instead of just putting in 3 outfielders regardless of where they specifically played. Ruth would be awesome as a DH. If I had to put in someone who really played in the DH area and was DH, I could put in Edgar Martinez, Paul Molitor of Frank Hurt.
Just two comments:
1. Pete Rose played 2nd only at the start of his career.
2. No lefty reliever?
Milordvega 3 years ago
Decent list. I can't really do too much complaining, even if they weren't the same players I'd pick. The one thing I will say is you should forget about picking legitimate right, center and left fielders and just pick the best three outfielders. It's too hard to choose between Mays and Mantle, so just take both of them.

of any team in the majors, and it wasnt even close.Had he not stopped Bench,Rose,Perez,Lee may,Hal Mcrae,Helm,Concepcion,Tolan,Carbo, and the rest of the big red machine they would have made that series a slugfest, but Brooks great defense turned 5 run innings into zero run innings. While on offense he hit 400 with a series 5 game record for total bases and rbi's.The phillies won the world tital this year without Mike Schmidt, the Orioles are so pathetic since Brooks retired they finished last again.
yomamadontdanz 3 years ago
Mike schmidt was great no question,i just think defence is under rated in baseball and yes schmidt was a great defensive 3rd baseman. But Brooks Robinson wasin the words of Casey Stengel "The best clutch hitter in baseball" from 1960 to 71.Look at his RBIs almost 1400,same as Schmidt or very close???His Rbis were mostly clutch Rbi's,6th inning all.Schmidt got alot of Rbis hitting 3 run dingers. How about this statistic, from 1958 to 1975 when Brooks Robinson was at third, his team won the most games
yomamadontdanz 3 years ago 2
i see
gtownhoyas555 3 years ago
"Look at his RBIs almost 1400, same as Schmidt or very close???"
Wrong. Brooks drove in 1,358, not even close to 1,400 and certainly nowhere near Schmidt's 1,595.
"His Rbis were mostly clutch Rbi's,6th inning all."
Wrong. Only 40% of Brooks RsBI came in the 6th inning or later. Nowhere near "mostly".
"Schmidt got alot of Rbis hitting 3 run dingers."
That's a bad thing?
How 'bout this statistic. With 2 outs and RISP, Schmidt had a .905 OPS to Brooks' lowly .717.
EricAnno 2 years ago
Brooks rob inson makes one of his increable plays pn the first inning with the bases loaded and one out, turning a potential 3 run double into a 7-4-3 doubleplay inning ended. If he dosnt rob the other team that hit may have resulted in a ten run inning! We'll never know? But if you make an error that prolongs an inning like Bill Buckner or the bartman fiasco, look at how one error can cause a team a championship?Yet Alex Rodriguez is a notorious choke artist in Big games only drives in the pile ons.
yomamadontdanz 3 years ago
Baseball you win with pitching and defence, give meBrooks Robinson at 3rd base and u can have Mike Schmidt.Brooks play at the hot corner is shut down 100%,nobody could bunt or hit the ball by him,and when you see what he did in the 1970 world series to the Big red machine he did this for 23 seasons. When you make a great defensive play it dosnt show up in the boxscore, but when you make an error it does.Brooks makes a great game saving defensive play so often the Team he played for won 90-100 game
yomamadontdanz 3 years ago 2
okay i agree that Brooks was the best defensive thirdbaseman ever to play the game but Mike Schmidt was no slouch, he did win 10 Gold Glove awards at that position and had a bigger bat

The contest was to have the team most likely to form a dynasty, and there's no way in my opinion that a team with someone like him could do it.

gtownhoyas555 3 years ago
sorry Rickey Henderson is the base running king but anyway....
SlayerInBlood 3 years ago
good video but your missing an AMAZING player........TY COBB!

And this man is not in your top all time outfielder list
treehawker13 3 years ago
he was too big of a jerk to be put on my team.
gtownhoyas555 3 years ago
would definilty have nolan ryan in starting line up, and goose gossage isnt even in the top 20 in all time saves, what about trevor hoffman or billy wagner
tb4c59 3 years ago
I just thought of Goose as a better pitcher than the other two. Gossage pitched 2 or 3 inning saves, so that stat is a little misleading in my opinion.
gtownhoyas555 3 years ago
really he is the greatest closer he is 3rd All time in saves but i agree he is a great closer but not the greatest
borat1301 3 years ago
I definitely think you should've put in nolan ryan but why is mariano in there
borat1301 3 years ago
Because he is probably the greatest closer of all time.

kSnoop 3 years ago
Vid is gay. Try again when you gain a true IQ of baseball.
kSnoop 3 years ago
Who in the hell cares what you think? I don't. You don't put Nolan Ryan in and your intelligence is shown. Your not the one who picks the best. The best are in the hof. Um yeah Ryan got elected. No matter what you thought. Your insignificant. And your vid is ameature at best. Grow a brain before you make another vid. Then you won't get hassled because you forgot somebody. If he wasn't so good then so many of us wouldn't fuck with telling you that your an idot for not puttin him in it!
kSnoop 3 years ago
OK??? So you don't see anything or any reason to put Nolan Ryan in this? Lol you must be the dumbest prick in the history of youtube vids. Dennis Eckersly!! Your a joke man. Nolan Ryan is the best pitcher in the history of the game. Fuck stats. Fuck you. I'll bet he could still out pitch half of the league till this very day you idiot.
kSnoop 3 years ago
stats don't lie, bro. I made my case. But what is wrong with Eckersley? any reliever who wins an MVP should be on there.
gtownhoyas555 3 years ago
nolan ryan only won about half of his games... not only does he hold the strikeout record, but he holds the walks record. when he was on, yes... he was damn good, but he wasnt always on.
zackthatyouknew 3 years ago 2
great list but you know every1 has to argue something lol love bob gibson but...nolan ryan? im still thinking bout shortstop...it would help if there were clips of honus wagner
colbypeace19 3 years ago
Dude what about Nolan Ryan #1 all-time in strike outs
markmogensen 3 years ago
gtown: Nice job, but here is the correct list: (SP) Cy Young, Walter Johnson, Sandy Koufax, and Bob Gibson. (Roger Clemens would be there, but for that little issue). (RP) Dennis Eckersley, Mariano Rivera (C) Johnny Bench, (1B) Lou Gehrig, (2B) Rogers Hornsby, (SS) Honus Wagner, (3B) Alex Rodriquez, (OF) Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Willie Mays. (DH) Ted Williams (Bonds makes it if performance enhancement athletes are allowed).
ddenuci 3 years ago
Here's the justification for Rogers Hornsby: lifetime ave of .358 is second only to Cobb, and highest in NL. He batted .424 in 1924. He won two triple crowns. Over a 5 year period, he AVERAGED .402. Now, granted, batting averages from that era need to be discounted somewhat, but Hornsby won seven NL batting titles. So, forget about the actual batting average number, he nevertheless was the best hitter in that era. No other second baseman can make that claim. And he also hit 301 hrs.
ddenuci 3 years ago
the big red machine would beat this team

gtownhoyas555 3 years ago
good choices, but how could u leave out pete rose?
u0fldt 3 years ago
Good choices, only thing I would change might be to tailor the infield a little more towards defense. I'm thinking Brooks Robinson at 3b, Joe Morgan at 2nd, and Ozzie Smith at SS (although I'm biased towards The Wizard because he's my favorite player).
skimarcus 3 years ago
Brooks was heavily considered by me, but Schmidt was definately not a bad defender; he won 10 Gold Gloves in his career and had better power numbers than Brooks. I can't believe you're talking about Cal, defense was one of his best attributes. I can kind of understand Rose. I needed some place to put him, and 2nd seemed like the most logical of all the places he played.
gtownhoyas555 3 years ago
Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on Cal, I loved the guy and you're right, he was a good defender. However the fact that he only hit over .300 four times in his career hurts me. If we want the perfect blend between offense and defense, I'd go with Barry Larkin in his prime. He was always overshadowed defensively by the Wizard in the NL, and if we're looking at your team as an actual team, you'd need a leadoff hitter. I know he got injured a lot, but on pure ability he's the best in my book.
skimarcus 3 years ago
i would have probably gone with rogers hornsby for 2nd base. way better average than even the best 2baseben, and in todays league he would have hit for at least 20 more homers
