  • I think this is good to bring to attention to non-Russian, non-native English speakers:

If you want a caption in your native language, I think the translate caption function there works quite well.

    just saying here

  • Love it, love the facial expressions he makes, the guy's a star.

  • Hermoso video.

  • @mssmjscss. Did you put the subtitles on ? It may explain something !

  • @mssmjscss. Well I don't think I said Mr K looked gay or stoned and I didn't swear either !! But the comment from Turkey was about the same as mine !!

Look out for the Fine Autumn Rain song which is my favourite.

  • He either looks stoned or kinda gay (like the orientation, not the quality); he still F*CKIN' rocks though, what with his speedy singin'!

Greetings from the U.S. of A.!

  • @mssmjscss it's because he is acting, not just singing. He is playing two roles - the girl and the cossack. It is funny because it is meant to be funny.

  • @mssmjscss What a disrespectful comment. Please don't make those of us fans from the USA look bad by making unnecessary comments like that.

  • This choir has not bad performers.. Igor Volkoff is good, but he dont reflect emotion in this song.. But... Kharitonov is feel the emotion in this song..And he reflecting very well.. He have a nice smile. And he use body language very well.. He's almost dancing..:) Kharitonov better than Volkoff.. I wish you a healthy life Mr. Kharitonov.. Greetings from Ankara/Turkey....

  • He has lots of medals and he is just a soldier??? They should promote such good singer to Army Officer!

  • @Corvusdotensis They dont need to be ,actually it was kind an honor to be in the ensemble of soviet army ;)

  • This is a very wonderful bass. Excellent performance. Hooves and whistles are very harmonious.

  • @TereniaAnna

  • @grandslam1998 yes he is a truly great singer and i think you miss the point of comments, comments are for sharing and to be exact his name is Leonid M. Kharitonov. • Extraordinario.

  • @aradiapatitare

    Muito obrigado!

  • A truly riveting, powerful, enamored Super Soviet Russian Folk Song! It's just too bad it's not that famous BRAVO MAESTRO LONYA KHARTIONOV YOU ROCK MAN!

Red Armies kick asses musicaly too!

  • @MrAntidur1

    Thank you!

  • The Soviet Union may not have been the greatest country in the world, people are starving and a dictatorship. But they sure sing the best in the world!

  • @Baurles

Yes, but most of the big countries had such problems as starvation and dictatorship, etc... So Russia is far from being the worst one...

  • ehm I checked the lyrics, something wrong in "I s the por hot shagom edu"

or maybe I wrong to hear it?

but it's great song! love this!

  • @fikamar27

Everything fine with lyrics to me...

  • yeah im disappointed in the christmas tree and bells.... i thought the soviet union wouldn't officially celebrate christmas... then again, they probably saw they need to fight those terrorists.

  • @JossyHadash I think they are celebrating New Year here.

  • @Kiernyc

Yes. This clip is from 1969 New Year TV show.

  • this man has Charm

  • One of the best bass singers of all time! I never get tired of watching this performance. Thanks for posting.

  • @rytmurphy

    Thank you!

  • Looking at other singers doing Leonid numbers and they just don't have it.

The guy is up there with Elvis,Miles Davis and Bob Marley.

  • @1988acid

Very interesting comparison! ))) Thank you!

  • this music ain't my thing but that was a nice fun tune i thought Russia never celebrated Christmas.

  • @1988acid

It's not Christmas. It was New Year eve. Russian (Orthodox) Christmas is on 7th of January. And Russia do celebrate it.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I love that song! Greetings from Brazil!

  • @goakajbr

    Hello Brazil!

  • Très belle voix grave.

  • @quebeclaique

    Merci!

  • I just can't help smiling looking at this. Shame it's 1969, I'd sooo throw my panties at him )))

  • @iamzima

  • Was this a Christmas fest

  • @1988acid seem to be :)

  • @1988acid The New Year

  • Leonid Kharitonov is such a magnificient opera singer. Gotta love his voice and the fun he's having singing this folk song. I'm trying to understand this song. It seems to be about a pretty young cossack woman changing out some guy's horseshoes. When she asks for payment he stiffs her but has the nerve to flirt with her and ask her name. She shines him on and coyly tells him that her name will come to his mind when he's riding his horse away. So what did that mean? Is this a love song?

  • @jeffyoung60

    Yes! Exactly! )))

  • @jeffyoung60 You're right in all parts except for the payment part. She asked for a small amount of money because she didn't value her own work. I think he paid her and then flirted with her.

  • I was felling a little bit down but after listening to this lovely song I feel happier. Thank you Bravo. Bravo

  • @grandslam1998

    Pleasure!

  • How many local Siberian girls fell in love with you because of your deep singing voice and your ability to raise one eyebrow at them? Those girls should have been throwing their panties at you. Have you thought about singing in Las Vegas or cutting a CD record in New York or Los Angeles? By the way, what was your military rank?

  • @jeffyoung60

Sorry for not answering for so long... Yes, there were a lot of girls who used to fell in love with the artist! ))) And unfortunately he never had any proposals for cutting a CD in New York...

Leonid's military rank was a sergant...
